The fact the speedrun for this is less than 10 minutes is a true testament to how much this game kept my attention as a kid. Definitely my favourite THPS Game. The soundtrack is engraved on my brain and the levels are iconic
actually, the any% is something like 3-4 minutes by georgetheplushie
It's from a time where quality wasn't measured in how many hours the story is padded out for, and where the point is to play it not just get to the credits.

Tony hawks games are just so satisfying and fun to play honestly i could happily spend hours just skating around all the maps doing combos.. games these days cant keep my attention for very long before i get bored

My favorite thing is that the stock footage at 46:39 shows the Tower Rails Gap being done the "right" way. The first image in the sequence has him touching the upper rail.
This means that ever since we were kids we were being shown how to do it, but never noticed.
I never thought of the pro bail videos as a crack at your create-a-skater. I always thought they were rewarding the player with a video they thought would be funny.
Shouting at my screen every time Rad Rat complained about how slow he was moving, but he was in switch :P

Stats on zero is EA skate before EA skate, use to do this all the time back in the days cause I hate the speed and over clearing everything. Also when you do the video replays it makes it easier to do realistic runs/filming.

I did the same thing and tried to create some-what realistic parks, I remember spending *hours* goofing around the park editor hahaha

Setting Up a non generic USB Controller Like xbox and ps4 is very hard dir the PC Version . I still try to map my Controller to PC version

@ShadowAngel dude chill the fuck out pc port is and looks fine and runs above 1080p fine with alot more actual mods other than graphics mods . in my opionion and many others the pc port is the best of all options

There's like three ways to do the Rails gap
Late to this video, but this version of THPS was my jam. I had it on PS and PC. I mostly played PC for the online play. I literally have 500+ hours on this game. I, never knew you could do the tower rails gap on LA the way you accomplished it. My reaction to you pulling it off that way is literally EXACTLY the same as yours. All that time I wasted going up and down to get that gap, the coming up short, all for nothing when I could have just as easily did it the way you did on the first try. That isn't to say that I've never done the gap that way in my playing, it's just the first time I had to do it to get the challenge it was the way you were initially trying. Too funny.
It is great to see you play video games on this channel. Im sure you can tell history and story about skaters at the same time.
After growing tired of playing with maxed out stats because of cheat codes I would set everything to zero, and cruise just hitting the most realistic stuff on the Street.
That heelflip MAY be possible if you start at the haunted house where the axe murderer usually stands, grind over all the trailers on the left side for speed, and boneless at the top of the quarter pipe before attempting to gap the trailer.... The speed from that longer grind SHOULD give you a bit more of a boost than you had in this video. If you do make it over, just remember to throw that heelflip in there.
I may have to give this challenge a try for myself on my ps2. Anyway

Your LA "tower rails gap" epiphany blew my mind as well. I remember that goal being a pain trying it via the stair rail gap. 😒

Liked just for playing one of my favourite TH games. I love all the first 3, but 3 has the reverts, and it looked and felt very smooth on the ps2 compared to the ps1 version. It still has it's dated charm though. Great maps to skate around too, my favourites being foundry, suburbia and the Airport.

I tried this challenge but without upgrading my stats with neversoft eye ball and I swear,you gotta glitch the heelflip the trailer hop in suburbia if you want to beat that challenge.

If your capture card is still giving you issues the one I use for all my consoles is the StarTech USB3HDCAP. It has both HD and VGA/Component and it's work so far on Windows 10 for me.
I tried this semi recently and only REALLY had trouble with Heelflipping the trailer. I totally gave up on that one.

47:32 Dude, i was screaming at you! Also when you first tried to varial flip the tower rails gap. Maybe there is something with your ear. Or its the ~5000 miles.
I was on my 22nd playthrough of the game with my newly unlocked Neversoft Eyeball man before I learned about that tower rails gap. I assumed the same as you, even if I did have to steal some stat points from lip and stick them on air.
I play THUG Pro with zero stats and HUD disabled just a means to do something in the background while watching a video or whatever. I also recently switched to playing it in 80x80 resolution for that sweet retro feel. Not as obnoxous as it sounds since I'm playing it in a small-ish window usually put in a corner of the screen. Okay, good talk.

Just doing this now myself. Can't get the suburbia heel flip but the LA secret tape isn't actually all that tough if you just grind the ledge
Your symptoms sound like what I had in late December thru most of January...
Started with a sore throat for a few days, then new year's eve the sore throat got kinda bad. Then new year's day the sore throat was gone but i had a cough. Throughout the week, the cough would get worse and better, sometimes with a fever. nothing super bad, but it stayed for 3+ weeks. I got tired of being sick and eventually went to the Doctor... and got diagnosed with Pneumonia. Took some antibiotics for a few days and after that I was good to go.
That sounds like Coronavirus. My mom and dad had the same thing happen, but they didn't get Pneumonia, and eventually stopped being sick.
The fucking tower rails gap killed me xD

There's a really nice Xbox HDMI adapter from Pound and it's only $20 so if you want HD on your Xbox it's the easiest way since the OG Xbox is actually capable of 1080i
You could probably find an AV/Component to HDMI cable pretty easily on eBay or something if you need that for such a new capture card.

I could say I was an expert but on the ps1 version, I remember as a kid I beated it with every skater and for the last few ones I had already figured out the best routes and was pretty much speedrunning the game when I didn't even know what speedrunning was.
That 8 bit rendition of Blitzkrieg Pop at 49:29 was magical only to get around copyright claims LOL

What would you call a nollie no comply hand flip. I can’t really find the variation online I’ve been doing them since I started skating but I learned it by accident I don’t really remember who showed me or if I just did it by accident. If some one can help me that would be great.

I always thought thps3 was the best because it's so balanced. Even as a kid wondered if this was possible, and I guess it is.
You should get a component/RCA to HDMI converter. It'll let you use new capture cards and connect to your TVs much easier.

Rad Rat check the Tony Hawk pro video in THPS3 he says his first skateboard is in a museum when as far as I know his first skateboard was sent to the smithsonian all the way in 2013 i'd love to see someone do some research into this or if its a simple answer to let me know

THPS2 Career on sim mode? I know it's possible to clear the game on Sim Mode, but 100% might not be possible. Those cash icons on Bullring come to mind.
Something about the skaters bailing with the chiptune in the background hits different...
Game Developers: This man doesn't speak for all of us. Bring back the games with secrets and hidden things that aren't documented in the game.

To be fair with the route thing, there's different SKATE layouts and some different objective for street and vert skaters. Not to mention the stat points and decks.
And I think the emulator's physics are off, because I was making gaps and flatground tricks without much issue.
I used to speed run this game and never boosted my stats because it wastes too much time, this is the easiest thps to beat with base stats, thps2 is insanely hard to beat with base stats

Semi-realistic skating from a Tony Hawk? I actually used to skate with auto push off and like 3s and 4s for most stats. So, I can say this should be fairly tough to get big scores/combos but most gap type goals should be doable, good luck.
the airport level is very 90s especially at the pinkish colored area I love it
the Tokyo level looks amazing when upscale, sucks that's it under a timer
You mentioned not being able to do no stats run in the thug games, but I think there are GameShark codes to inject 0/full stats into the games. Of course, you couldnt play those games without earning stats, casually.

To re-do a classic like THPS/THPS2 they would have to remove the soundtracks due to copywrite issues and honestly the soundtracks were a huge part of these games.
they should make a remaster, like thps 3+4. and later do thug 1+2

Man, these games were always a bit hard for me. Probably because I play on keyboard, using my controller is somehow too laggy/not configuring properly.
I feel your pain about the sickness. My wife and I have the same thing (same amount of time as well), she is way worse off than me. If the sickness doesn't kill her, I might lol, she coughs all night. We are getting better though.

PS2 version was more impressive but also more confusing. PS1 version managed to be better for this, clear goals and pure fun.
I just finish your THPS3 ZERO STAT RUN Determined 52 out of 54 Goals were possible(YES THE LOS ANGELES SECRET TAPE IS POSSIBLE) 41 out of 45 Stat Points were Collectable, 8 out of 9 Decks were Collectable in my skaters version

I don't know if you'll realize it further into the competitions, but I think bailing lowers your score. You might get over 100k score, but the judges will lower your score for each bail.
Now that we have a THPS remake I wanna see a Pro BMX remake.

If you do THPS4 do zero stats and the Cheat code for realistic skating. I think THAT will be a lil more challenging

To me the problem with tony hawk these days is because the studio doesn't put in the effort to make a new game. they basically treat it as a budget title.
