  • Flexion of the inside leg and extension of the outside leg allow the skier to move to the inside and shift /maintain balance and pressure against the outside ski.

Thank you. Finally, a video that helps people understand how pressure functions with flexion and extension.

Clear, easy to understand movements supported by great camera angle

0:42 and 1:35 are completely different. One is a recreational "lower energy" skier who is raising his center of mass during transition. This results in a transition that takes longer, but it physically must less demanding. He is going Long Short, Long Long, Long Short. The racer at 1:35 is going Long Short to Short Short to Long Short. The later is much faster, but incredibly tiring. Even WC racers will use some taller transitions during a race to rest the legs at times...or at least get the blood flowing.

I don't understand if extension start from the outside ski or from inside-New outside ski. Some teacher say from out side some say from inside

The old outside leg is already extended. As you go through the transition he old (currently flexed) inside leg extends, while the old (currently extended) outside leg flexes. It's a technique I've coined ILE (Inside Leg Extension). Check out the free online instruction at my website, I have a detailed article there that throughly explains the technique. YourSkiCoach.com

Extend the uphill leg (inside as it becomes outside). There are several outcomes we are striving for in the extension action, and one that is very critical in high-performance skiing is the transfer of pressure and balance to the new outside (uphill) ski. it would be a rare situation to extend the downhill (new inside). I hope this clarifies it.

Teacher from the opinion of "start with outside leg ex" say to me if i start with inside ski ex i can't put my hips axe down in pressure on the new outside leg...so difficult to understand for me

Costantino, its important to understand that my videos are not an all-inclusive, one-stop for learning skiing. They are intended to complement the coaching I (or my colleagues) do on the hill. Words are very limited, as is video and our work on the hill. But TOGETHER, they help a skier develop an understanding.

I have also dubt because if you look on the basic ski for beginner for example when beginner are able to have ski parallel on traverse but open in snow ploug on turn so when beginner start to open snow plug he start to open with uphill ski so for open and start turn uphill ski can't have weight legs come up news outside start to open but movement start from downhill ski if start from uphill ski can't start turn...maybe i wrong but is one idea. Sorry my bad english

This is all wrong. Flexion should occur during the transition and extension during the turn.

Correct, but even WC racers do not do the low transition every turn. It is far too exhausting.

"All wrong"? You know these are some of the top ski racers in the world right? Possibly THE top two.
