    Using the Sterling Power Amps Lithium Batteries and Battery to Battery chargers.
    Also there is frost protection to engine bay, some solar modifications and a Webasto Pro 90 repair.....Phew!!!

      Ah yes, I did use Frans hairdryer but wasn’t strong enough. Perhaps that’s where I’ve been going wrong all these years! We all like fire us boys?

    I wish all battery banks were that easy, all lined up in a row 😁

      Yes I wish they were too mate. The Aqualine's engine bays are quite tight (for a 12ft) because they build a half bulkhead in front of the engine. But a lot more room than some boats for sure.

    Hi just watched your vlog and you mentioned that you can get sterling batteries with internal heater. Do you think these would be suitable for having in the engine bay? We are having a new build built and would be using the boat for holidays for first couple of years then plan on becoming liveaboards. Also would you have a link to the heated ones?
    Many thanks.

      Hi Darren, that what they are designed for, and I would still insulate them well too. I can also supply the TN Power ones that also have internal heating.

      Hi Neil, that's great to know. Thats my hope really, that you can get an idea of the work involved in some jobs, but also get some of the technical stuff along the way.

    I'm slightly confused between the b2b and the a2b, looks like they do a similar job but need wiring differenty, maybe you could explain the difference s at some point.

    • @narrowboatelectrician
      @narrowboatelectrician  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. The A2B connects directly to the alternator. And charges both the starter and domestic batteries. The B2B sits between battery banks, when charge voltage is detected it will then charge the domestic bank. Very useful for lithium set ups where you need a battery buffer. The A2B though, charges much faster than an alternator alone, they just tail off as the target voltage approaches. I only install the B2B with lithium, for “proper” fast charging on lead based batteries I’ll fit the A2B.

    Super informative video! And what a clean install!
    Would I be able to get a quote from you to do pretty much the same b2b and batteries install?
    I have a 175Amp alternator and was wondering if I could get the sterling 70A instead of a 40A b2b?

      You want a bigger B2B otherwise your alternator will be slower to charge the batteries. I would go for the 200A Buck Boost.

    Do you prefer the sterling b2b or do you also rate victron for the lithiums?
    What battery heater do you use ?

    • @narrowboatelectrician
      @narrowboatelectrician  ปีที่แล้ว

      Victron is always good, but their Orion units only go to 30A, so you'd need to run multiples of them, and that gets expensive. The customer supplied the heater he bought from tool station. All we need to do is keep the engine bay above freezing.

    Hi Martin where do you get your copper bus bars from?

  • @samday9328
    @samday9328 ปีที่แล้ว

    Martin - could you not use something similar to that shown in the link below to stand the batteries on to avoid the 0 degrees C issue? Surely it would be more efficient to keep the batteries above O by direct warming than it would be to try to keep the entire compartment above 0? Just a thought! :)

    • @narrowboatelectrician
      @narrowboatelectrician  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sam, you cant add links into TH-cam comments. If you are thinking a heating mat, I have seen them, but I am concerned that they could get too hot in fault condition and damage the batteries. So, for me, a heater that away from the batteries.

    • @samday9328
      @samday9328 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@narrowboatelectrician - my suggestion was for a heating mat so you are obviously way ahead of me on this one! Stay safe and warm. Sam

      Did you verify the engine idle speed indication with a separate tachometer?

  • @michaelwake5600
    @michaelwake5600 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure using a angle grinder with a cutting wheel and the safety guard removed is good practice.
    The cutting wheels can shatter, so take care
