    Victoria loves cars, man. The cars she was driving in the early seasons with the leather outfits were epic.

      I got the feeling she ditched the 'vette & leathers because it was starting to make her look like a dominatrix. Sometimes she was even cracking a leather belt, what was that about?! I'm glad they toned down her image to suit her philosophy as a trainer (and I'm glad her philosophy evolved away from the "pack leader" mentality to pure positive reinforcement).

      @@dietotaku In her books and on her blogs. She discusses why the change in training! which I personally found very interesting and you may as well!. It is because the dominance/pack theory was completely debunked (among other studies that have come out as well) It is really neat. Also I think you are correct about the potential for the dominatrix vibe esp with the BDSM community's rise in recent years due to their outcry at the Falsehoods of 50 shades of Grey.

    Not that long ago I discovered the ”happy hoodie” and that helped a lot for big noises end when my dog is nervous. He calmes down mutch faster. I used it when there whas fireworks yesterday, normale he cowards away with a lot of panting and now he whas still a bit worried, but he relaxed mutch faster, he stopped hiding himself, he even took food out of my hand.... so mutch better. Thanks for confirming a theory I had! I'm definitely getting some for my family's dogs, idk if the fireworks scare them so much as they think it's some kind of danger they need to guard us from, but either way it seems like a stressful experience for them so I thought maybe happy hoodies would help since they wouldn't have to hear as much. I think as long as each person is willing to play the long game patiently, it’s totally fine to work with Nellie on this. Many dogs can overcome phobias, and it may help her in a number of future circumstances-storms, for instance. Hopefully they can take separate cars or just the regular one on their trips in the meantime. Each of them has their focus in retirement-the wife has Nellie and the husband has his car. I think that’s fine! It’s nice to see Mike bond with her more. A dog built like a machine for speed may have a lot in common with his interests in vehicles, actually. There are many ways to tie their appreciations for what they love together, and there are plenty of easy compromises to suit both parties while they work on this with Nellie and bond further with her.

    I have lived with Whippets for getting close to twenty years. They are each individual when it comes to riding in a vehicle.
    If I was planning to force my Whippet to accept the hotrod I would want them crated with matting below and around the crate situated behind the drivers seat with the front opening facing the passenger door.
    If she was more cocooned in the back I think it would cause less anxiety. Soft blankets and a bully stick.
    Less view and more support.

That's what i would've done if i were in that situation. i don't like that so much of what they want is put on the dog instead of just learning to accept the dog for who she is. even victoria said she may never like car rides! there comes a point at which you need to accept who the dog is and isn't. if it means that you board the dog or whatever while you go on vacation or whatever may be better for everyone if they couldn't get someone to pet sit. just my other thoughts.

      I have fostered and owned a variety of dogs, though I'm no expert, I think the dog can do it. Think if they get a second dog that loves to go out and go camping and they leave Nellie at home or board her. That's sad for Nellie.
      Knowing that your pup can be a bit uncomfortable at times but still handle a variety of situations is such a good feeling.

    • @melissarose2213
      @melissarose2213 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That could be costly #1 and also a lot of time away from her owners. As the woman said in the beginning the dog helped her through a rough time, so she wanted to help the dog in return. helping her is not sending her into a situation with a stranger or being home alone all the time. If anything, that would make life worse for all of them.
      My own dog a border collie mix has noise phobia, although she actually loves car rides is terrified of loud noises and big trucks, leaf blowers, lawn mowers etc. But it has gotten so bad she will not go outside during the day, for whatever reason she feels safer at night and has recently been playing frisbee in the dark. We used to play hours and hours outside she was so happy. Now my dog is miserable and bored all the time and it’s just horrible to see her like this. I would give anything to have Victoria come and help us because getting a vet behaviorist is proving impossible! No CBD, no calming treat, collar, special calming food for anxiety or nothing has worked. It’s absolutely getting to be too much to handle. So, I disagree with your comment. It’s no life for a dog to live in fear all the time believe me. I want to see my baby happy again. I would do anything to have Victoria come and help us.

    the one thing that really upset me in this episode is that she at the end says to the camera that she doesn't think it'll be long before the dog enjoys car rides when she literally just told the owners to take a step backwards to help the dog who clearly wasn't ready for the first thing she told them to do with the dog in the car! i would've had them do what she told them to do with the dog at the end in the first place and then gradually build up the length of the drive. i sort of get why she told them to do it in that order but at the same time, to me it would've made more sense to just start at the beginning with the dog with just the association to the car etc. I also feel that maybe this dog isn't right for them to be honest because of the dogs personality. I feel that a family who didn't live so close to traffic and wasn't so obsessed with driving/cars in general would've been a better fit so the dog would've to constantly having the stressors and maybe only went in the car when she really had to like the vet for example. i know they are good people etc as i can tell as the way the wife talks about her and the relationship is how i think of my own with my dog when they need us etc. i am very happy vic got the guy more involved with the dog which i think helped him have more compassion/understanding as a result. i just question why they got that rescue dog as i don't think it was the best fit for them but that's just my views, take them with a grain of salt.

      Sometimes it's hard to know what level to start with ... Victoria started with something that proved to be too much for Nellie, so she scaled it back. Gradually they can work back to two short trips a day, then build from there. It might take months for Nellie to go an hour in the regular car, and she might never be able to handle the hot rod.
      One thing I would do is have Nellie get used to the hot rod when it's parked. Let her sniff around the car, open the doors and let her check out the interior, set up the bed ... all with the engine off. Once she's comfortable, start all over with the engine idle. Then very short trips ... it may take a couple of years to get her used to being in the moving hot rod long enough to go anywhere. Or it may never happen - the couple needs to prepare for that.
