I just purchased my Yaris, and I love it. It's not a powerhouse, but it is smooth and solid on the highway and I prefer it over my old 2003 Grand Prix. I'm 56 and I plan on keeping this car for at least 10 years.

The Fast Lane Car There's nothing wrong with the music. It's nice and jaunty, making it a perfect match for the Yaris. It reminds me of Dexys Midnight Runners. It's neither overbearing nor overloud: I don't see any reason for complaint.

Buy a Toyota and you will be bored but you won't be surprised with high maintenance costs. Let me give you an example:
My car = 2006 Toyota Corolla with 170,000 miles. My ex-wife's car = 2006 Mazda3 with 110,000 miles. My car has had nothing go wrong with it, all I've done was fill up the gas tank, replace worn out brakes, tires, wipers, and fluids. That's it.
My ex-wife's car has had the same worn-out things replaced, PLUS she's needed the following repairs:
- Massive body work on the rear-center brake light was needed due to pre-mature rusting (rusted right through),
- A/C compressor that failed and needed replacing
- Front struts that failed (massive leaks on the driveway one morning) and needed replacing.
- Stabilizer links that needed replacing
- rear shock mounts that broke and needed replacing.
- Main engine mount that went bad, and needed replacing.
- Alternator that failed and needed replacing.
- parking brake cables that rusted solid (seized) and needed replacing
- transmission selector control arm that seized and needed replacing (couldn't put the transmission into gear, rust was holding it from moving.)
So if you are thinking of buying a new Mazda3; go ahead, buy one on a LEASE, and get rid of it after 3 or 4 years, DON'T HOLD ONTO IT because it won't last trouble-free like the Toyota will.
That model Mazda 3 was based on the Ford Focus...thankfully Mazda is no longer controlled by Ford.
buildmorefarms100 but too bad the euro focus is better in every way than the mazda3 and our american second gen focus wasnt based on that platform. it was a even worse modified 1st gen focus platform.
Willilly Bab Cars are all about how they're taken care of and how they're driven. My daily has almost 100K on it with the same amount of service that you've done to your corolla. I don't drive the car too hard, and I maintain it as much as possible.
Any car can be unreliable because of who owns it. Cars, after all, are as much a reflection of the owner as they are the company who made them.
Levi Beaudette yep, also if the car have less features or less component, it has less chances to break or hv an error. toyota's reliable rating is high because most buyers may only buy the base version. some of them dont even hv a power windows or locks. thats also why there re less chances to break. I hv to admit that their maintenance is cheaper than others brand because most mechanics parts are shared with many other cars. But then I also hate this because i feel like the car loss its own character.
Bored? Reliable motoring isnt boring...it is fun getting where you want to go without problems...just my 2 cents.
I drove a 5speed Yaris from 2008 to 20010 and in that time I put on 175,000km. So, I know this car extremely well. The little 1.5L (with manual transmission) comes alive at highway speeds and it's an extremely durable powertrain. If you want a car that you can pass down to your grand children, get this car before they stop making it.
I love my 2012 yaris.
If it were me I'd go with the Fit, it's sporty, has good looks, and is very reliable.

Say what you want about the specs... I have a 2007 Yaris and commute in and out of NYC 6 days a week. The 1.5ltr, 4 speed auto combo is bulletproof. 224,000 miles and have only replaced the water pump at about 130k and a fuel injector at 222k... that's it. Original struts, ONE set of brakes f&r, one set of rear shocks, one cat back exhaust and r&l lower control arm bolts. Less that 1k in repairs in 9 years (i do all my repairs). Still going strong.
Would I have this as my only car?.... No... But as a commuter or a car on a budget?... It can't be beat.
Charley J I drove 2008 Yaris M/T since September 2008 and already drive for more than 139,000 Km without changing any parts at all, only changed battery and 4 tyres for 10 years driving until now, Yaris is a very reliable car on earth....

When I had such small car, it was good and in many cases faster than bigger powerful car in city settings. I could feel corners and could squeeze thru turns faster. But on highways I felt that inadequacy which was enough by 45 minutes.

In Europe we have the 7 speed Multidrive S gearbox on the non-Hybrid Yaris. It's a CVT box and very good. I don't understand why in the US you have the old 4 speed box. The Hybrid has a "1-speed" e-CVT".

Yes, the name Toyota has the ring of reliability to it. The tag "Made in France" on the other hand...
And given the fact that Toyota/Lexus had quite a few mass recalls in recent years makes we wonder if saying that Toyota automatically equals reliability is quite as true as it was during the 90s and early 00s.
Checking the ADAC database I found 82 recalls for Toyota since 2004 in Germany alone. Thats more than Ford, Fiat or even Renault. Honda for example comes to about half that number.
morbvsclz yes because Toyota sells more and I'm sorry but look at the stupidity of the recalls.. Nothing really serious. With no incidends recorded recall doesn't make a car unreliable. Recalls happen for example vw for the rear center seat seatbelt wich on hard turns can unbuckle vw polo that is really a serious safety concern especially the place you usually put your child in the back there.....

I like Toyota yaris very much, because it little and compact; it using less gas! And quit fast, such a perfect 🚗 !

I'm roughly 6ft 1 and driven previous model of the yaris. Its very hard to fit into the driver side when I was learning and you can fit a maximum 3 people, 1 at the back and 1 on passenger side. What I could get is a Mazda 3, Yaris feels very underpowered for hills and Corolla feels heavy

The 4spd automatic ruins this car.... I test drove a manual se a few weeks ago and it was actually fun! This is coming from a guy that drives a TSI a Jetta. I am shopping for a car for my daughter and the yaris se I drove sold the same day before I could decide. Most dealers like mine have automatic only and l or le models. Learn to drive a stick and this car will make you smile. Since it has low power it's fun shifting and building your speed. But I tell ya it feels more powerful than 106 hp

I will say it looks better than the previous models, which looked far too much like Fisher Price toys in my opinion. That being said, there are still better looking cars in the segment.

The Yaris is designed specifically for the urban environment. A four speed auto and 100bhp are more than adequate for that. A CVT is even better, that's why you find it in this type of car. It's either a starter car for a teenager, or a commuter car for a family. It generally carries one adult and, possibly, kids and/or groceries. It doesn't do distances. It's as at home in Colorado as a stretch limo would be on the Ile de la Cite.
sorry but there are plenty of subcompacts that don't have the compromises this has for similar amounts of money. This is just a facelifted version of the awful old yaris. Still has the same awful platform that even consumer reports who typically loves toyotas couldn't even recommend it.
Daniel Blaney The Yaris doesn't have any compromises/drawbacks within its design environment. It's small, economical, roomy, nimble and reliable. These are the things that are important to its buyers.

Its Just the U.S Yaris that is not good, as a person that has driven both I can say that the eu spec or more specifically the nordic spec is very good, it has a CVT Transmission and we have diesels, petrol and hybrid-electric. Even the interior on the new yaris is a little better in Europe than the us with a a better entertainment system and better fabrics on the seats, but any how the music that you used whats it called?
A hot hatch version would be great.
And if I had a daughter, I think this would be what I would buy for her... not that it looks like a girl car (if such a stupid concept even exists).

This car would not really compare well to the Peugeot 208 or Renault Clio because of its dated 4-speed automatic and no diesel engine option, unlike both the Renault and Peugeot. Technology / Navigation is also noticeably better in those 2 cars than the Yaris.
Hyundai and Kia both have 6 speed automatics in their smallest cars

So, this is where the Mazda designers responsible for the "smiley-big-mouth" design went when Mazda moved on to its current look.

hondas are know for needing alternators valve adjustments, trans work and many other things but with the toyota you get stuff like a lifetime fuel filter that never needs to be replaced...im up to 240k on mine and its replacement still sits on the shelf because i honestly didnt believe it either
phil tripe True story. I used to own a 2002 Honda accord lx. The engine sounded nice and the transmission was pretty stable and shifted good. Then after driving it for 300 plus miles on a trip, the transmission just crapped out on me after I had to stop and go for construction road work. No signs at all, it just crapped out and stall, dead, right on spot. it only had about 110,000 before the tranny died. After I had it towed 100 plus miles to my uncles place we installed a rebuilt tranny in it. Car drove like new afterwards, however, I still don't trust the thing. The brake sensor under the brakes crapped out after that and the brake box light for the rear lights kept dying. Checked all the wires and nope it cost about 75 to replace it everytime. eventually it started downshifting pretty harsh especially from 3 to 2nd gear. So I finally got rid of the thing before the tranny went out again or before anything major gets broken. Bought a Toyota Tacoma and will never go back to any other company. I am a college student and don't have time to fix my car so I'd rather have reliability than sportiness. Lots of people say Hondas are the shit as far as efficiency and reliability goes, I can say as an ex-owner, that I will no longer fall for a Honda, as far as owning a vehicle goes. It's all about Toyota for the moment.
the 4 speed was for cost reduction plus its a proven transmission.
The SE has a lousy turning circle because they put bigger wheels on it. The LE and CE turn on a dime.
Yes always run 15 or 16s with compact cars so you get more tire steelies work best

SO...Yaris or Fiat 500? Which is more fun? Yaris or Fit? I like the new Fit, at least it's supposed to be fun to drive. Where I live is mostly rural, so if I take the back way to work, the car needs to be fun. I'm like Roman, I really like small, fun to drive cars. I know what I need! A Datsun 510! lol
The Fiat 500, Fit and Fiesta are by far the funnest to drive out of that class. The 500 is unreliable and is a really niche car. The Fit is the most reliable and powerful but it looks a small Mini Van IMO...
And the Fiesta is probably the best all rounder. Its got just enough power, Its reliable as long you get the manual, its super fun to drive, its pretty safe and it looks great too.

2015 fius box yaris
Not really my style! Presently I'm stuck with a 02 grand am and its as small as I want to go. The wife's fold up wheelchair can fit in the trunk but we have to watch and put it in right. When she gets her electric wheel chair fixed we may have to leave it home. Although if we manage to get us a truck or SUV I may be able to rig up a ramp of some kind.

I have a Euro Fiesta 1.25 85 bhp, it has enough punch here, I can drive it at 130kph. When in the states you seem to drive so slowly by comparison, well the last time I was there, I remember having to drive at 50mph between Miami and Orlando
This car is on the same platform as the New Citroen C1 and Peugeot 106.
I used the 1.5 in the pre facelift yaris. It was slow in that and I can imagine an auto would feel dreadful. No bottom end at all and not all that great even once the revs are up. It's an old engine now and really needs replacing. I hope they will put the 1.8 hybrid in the new one.

This Yaris will be replaced with a modified version of the new Mazda 2 that is to be built at a new plant in Mexico for the 2016 model year. It will get the 1.5 liter SkyActive engine from Mazda and should be a much better car. Almost anything beats the current car - Fiesta, Sonic, Note, Fit ... there are many choices and they are generally less expensive. Toyota seems to be OK with this. Even the new Yaris is only slotted for up to 50,000 units, which is a really low runner in the Toyota world. The reason for that is that the street price for a Yaris is typically around $17,000 in the US where the starting price of Corolla - a much more substantial car - is $18,000. Toyota will sell about 30,000 copies of the Yaris between the US and Canada this year. They will sell about 325,000 Corollas. Clearly almost everyone who wants a base model Toyota chooses the Corolla. Interestingly, the Prius C, which is essentially a hybrid Yaris, outsells Yaris by about 30%.
Nope, the Prius C is NOT an HSD Yaris (Toyota makes one overseas, but you may not like their puny little cargo hold, mostly used by the battery pack). The C is from this generation Auris (Corolla X-based hatchback that's designed and sold in EU instead of the Corolla), so it's midway between the Yaris and the Corolla XI in size.
The next generation Auris (besides a 2nd gen Prius C) will also be available as a Scion with a conventional gas engine. Its' prototype was just shown in the LA Auto Show as the iM Concept (will likely be sold as the iM in NoAm, replacing the xD [Urban Cruiser overseas]) and even if it looked hot it may only carry the Corolla XI Eco's 1.8L and its' 140hp.
Oh, and French labor is expensive, so Toyota had to do with an antiqued 4 speed auto to contain costs while they have access to Mazda's MX factory (and its' much cheaper labor force) and the next gen Mazda2 parts bin for any serious upgrades.
BTW, if you want to see a Yaris 3 door hatch you'll have to wait 'til you vacation in Puerto Rico or US Virgin Islands. Toyota dealers down here do sell a US-spec version of the 3 door hatch not available Stateside even to fleets.
Toyota is buying Mazda's SkyActiv engines from Mazda 2 to fit in Yaris this year or in the next year. Check the news.
Actually they are rebadging the Mazda 2 as the Yaris for North America.

syxepop Yes, and they are being a bit cagey about the timing of Mexico production. I didn't mention a model year because they seem to be playing it by ear as far as when Mazda will be ready to launch. It could be a '16 or '17 depending on how things go with the startup of the new plant.

What the host has probably figured is that this gen's Yaris (even before the mid cycle refresh) was designed at Toyota's EU design center in France by people from all over the EU (hence the double reference to EU and FR). US-spec models are imported from both France and Japan (they didn't discontinue Japanese exports totally until MX manufacture starts...).
$18,445 with destination. Freaking INSANE! Get a Honda Fit EX CVT for $19,180.

Not that good of a review…the Yaris 2015 is still the same Yaris that came in 2012, only the front and rear fascia’s were updated but that’s a global redesign , not really European although now we do get Yaris made in France….but the most important thing is the updated interiors ( soft touch materials) in dash, door panels , new seat upholstery, etc., also power windows and lock standard in all trims even the lowly Base; another plus is the standard touch screen radio/gps across the line; basically you can have a basw Yaris with all these standard for 15.5K….Try that with other subcompacts… Fit with touch screen dash prob 19K, Rio and Accent not even in the same league quality wise, only thing cheaper will be the old generation Mazda 2 , the Nissan Versa 5 door but that one sis almost agricultural…

This just can't compete with the Fit, the Fiesta, the Sonic, the Accent, etc. Toyota needs a ground-up redesign, not just a refresh.

no it doesnt need the ground up redesign. The yaris (2012 and up) is the most proven out of all sub compacts but I would still get the newer honda fit because of the space (manual only).

That guys is fucked up , really you comparing it to a golf GT or something , the car is pretty comfortable from the inside you just tall freak than regular human beings, and it got all the options needed leather inside , 5 inch screen or so , crcruise control and automatic transmission and it can rweach 190km/h what else you want from car in that class , not to mention Japanese cars got the best air conditioners. (im not japanese and all my cars are germen )

The biggest problem is the bigger, faster, higher mpg Corolla that's CHEAPER than the Yaris because of its bigger rebates.
Great looking cars but just a rebadged Mazda2. Nah Ill stick with my Mitsubishi Mirage CVT. I avg 45 mpg combined!

Toyota has been making their cars a lot better looking lately, i.e. Highlander Avlon and Camry XSE, but my god the Yaris is terrible looking!!

This may be reliable, but it's just not that good of a car. Can't hold a candle to a Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta, or VW Up...connecting with "your brain" only isn't good enough, and really, just sad.
