Seun, is this not the minister to whom Betta Edu paid money into his company's account?? He obviously will not understand the pain the people are going through.
A govt. that feel the pain of the people will not spend 21billion to build a house for the VP or sponsor pilgrimage with billions of public funds.

One question WE should be asking ourselves is, can peaceful Protest produce anything! Answer is NO, if it is Just Peaceful Then U will Just move around wasting Ur time Then there after go Home, but If it is protest that will eventually leads to Revolution which will at the end bring that desired Change that every good Nigerian is asking for, Then dont expect a peaceful Protest because peaceful Protest has never Change & will never change anything in any Part of africa.

Unfortunately, I'm not a youth. I understand that the reason for the protest is bad governance. Now we hear that the reason is hunger and youth hopelessness.
The questions protesters should ask are the causes of the suffering in the land, which is not only bad governance but the country bad structure that must change to have good governance.
    1. Rewrite the constitution
    2. Reverse to regional system of government
    3. Or divide Nigeria as is being agitated by different groups.
I'm a senior citizen, for the protesters to have my support, the three reasons I highlighted above should be intellectual way to pursue. The situation is not bad governance but Nigeria structure as a country.

Thank you, Seun, for tonight's program. It is commendable that you invited Mr. Olunide Ojo, Minister of Interuir who surely come accross certified leadership coach and minister of words in many ways. Kudos to him; he stands out as a performing minister in the government.
The pressing issue today is the government's desperate attempt to suppress the people's right to protest by painting it as a significant threat. This narrative is untrue. For example, during the protests in London on the day Israel launched an attack on Palestine, the police fulfilled their duty by ensuring security and maintaining peace. If the IGP and DSS have intelligence that foreign mercenaries plan to hijack the protest, they should act by arresting these individuals. Instead, the government and its agencies are creating negative publicity for the planned August 1st protest, using various rhetoric to stop it.
Mr. Ojo mentioned that the president was bold in removing the petroleum subsidy on his 1st day in office, suggesting there was a plan in place. However, this move lacks true boldness and appears more like a boomerang effect. The president, who protested against the same subsidy removal in 2012 under the Save Nigeria Group, now faces commendation because he is in office.
The government asks for more time for policies to take effect, but when the president made his decision, what were his expectations? Despite claims of a successful template from Lagos, nothing seems to be working.
We often cite the painful gestation periods of countries like Singapore, Malaysia, India, and China as examples. However, the real game-changer is policy implementation coupled with tackling corruption. Good policies alone will not bring change without effective anti-corruption measures.
Corruption remains Nigeria's biggest problem, and the president has not outlined how he plans to combat it. Countries like China succeeded because they eradicated corruption.
Furthermore, products meant for distribution are being sold illegally. We hear that senators received 120 tons of grain to distribute to their constituencies, yet there is no accountability. What is happening with the suspended minister accused of embezzlement? Nothing. While we celebrate local government autonomy, the solution lies in accountability for the funds received, not just direct disbursement to local government chairmen. Mismanagement must be exposed and not tolerated.
The NNPC Ltd, governmemyt acciubtant-general office, Power and many other government agencies need urgent reform and audited (Probe) as a matter of urgency for a healthy start. Without such clarity and accountability, no matter the policies, the government will not progress.

Uk is different from africa. Watch what is going on in Kenya. Yesterday is not today. The mind of many is to destroy property. Many protesters
dont know why they are protesting. Am not a Nigerians. Am a Cameroonian and we are in war. If Nigeria escalate to war boarders are closed. I love Nigeria very much. I have many friends. I follow the news. So many agencies are involved in problems of Nigeria. Churches and individuals are destroying Nigeria.
Everyone has the right to criticise the government. But destroying property is unacceptable. Look at lybia. End sar protest. Nigeria is very populated so states protest is the best.

You misquoted him, he said Tinubu made a statement on subsidy on his swearing base on the fact that no provision were made by Buhari for subsidy in 2023 budget.

    • @femihassan738
      @femihassan738 หลายเดือนก่อน

@olatundebakare5400 I'm not disputing the fact that they've stated it before; no leader should make decisions without carefully considering their impact on the people they are meant to lead.
I reiterate, proper handover measures should have been put in place. The announcement was ill-timed and poorly thought out, especially considering they opposed the same subsidy cancellation in 2012.
The claim of 'no provision' is just an excuse to cover up the mistake. They should have presented the budget for transparency. If the subsidy wasn't provided for in the 2023 budget but was still executed, it constitutes an illegality by the APC-led government under President Buhari. How is that possible?
President Tinubu should stop the rhetoric and stop trying to excuse himself from his responsibilities as president. He shouldn't forget that he said, 'Don't pity me; I asked for the job.' 'Emi lo kan' (it's my turn) is no longer relevant.

Even though I'm not a supporter of Tinubu, I will say that this interior minister is probably the best spokesman Tinubu may have in his cabinet. This man appears to be an intelligent man, considering the way he is handling Seau's questions. He was not rude and defensive. Unlike all these politicians and ministers, he first acknowledges there's a problem and then goes to show what the government is doing or has done to address them. He is well mannered and polite. Instead of being aggressive and defensive, he is appealing to Nigerians to be patient, which, to me is a very smart way of handling the present crisis. If I were Tinubu, I would deploy this man to all the media stations speak on his behalf. While I'm not a supporter of Tinubu, my interest is for him to succeed in turning Nigeria around for the better.

Protesting is a fundamental human right according to the Nigerian constitution for those who are interested or believe in it. Likewise, not protesting and not being disturbed by protesters is also a fundamental right for those who don't believe in it as a means to rectify the nation's problems. They have the right to move freely and conduct their business. However, many questions remain unanswered about protesting. Is there a specific way, method, or manner in which protests should be conducted? When and where should they take place? How could street protesters believe they are not disturbing or stepping on other fellow citizens' fundamental rights is what I cannot comprehend. Our lawmakers need to clarify the law. These are crucial questions that need to be addressed to prevent evil people from descending on or leading our dear and only country into chaos like Sudan or Libya.

The problem is that the leaders are asking Nigerians to sacrifice, endure hunger and suffering but they are not showing example of what they are telling the people to do. They are living a luxurious lifestyle and the people are seeing them. How can you convince them to endure and sacrifice whereas you are not enduring and sacrificing anything.

Mr Seun Okinbaloye, while you were asking the minister of interior questions, you failed to ask Tunji Ojo key and though questions like:
A). Minister, are you and your household hungry at this time that Nigerians are going through excruciating hunger and joblessness?
    B) Did Tinubu and the national assembly members exercise patients when Tinubu hurriedly approved one hundred and sixty millions pounds SUVs for each of the law makers?
    C) Did Tinubu & the national assembly members exercise patience when they approve 21 billions pounds for just the renovation of the VP's official house.
    D) Seun, you failed to ask Olubunmi Tunji Ojo why Tinubu took bold actions only on the removal of petroleum subsidy, but failed to act boldy and sack Beta Edu, give a marching order to the chairman of EFCC to produce and prosecute Yahaya Bello.
The minister of Interior clearly insulted the sensibilities of poor Nigerians on the national TV through the way and manner he responded to your questions. He shamelessly exhibited his arrogance and shouted like a child with tantrums.

All that talk by Min. Tunji on about how the President is audacious and bold would have made sense if we are seeing the transparency and periodic results of his bold steps.
The lavish spendings and the quality of men in his cabinet just tell us all we have to know. They need to do better and stop gaslighting Nigerians

Sheun, you had a great engagement with the Minister but he evaded the question of why government officials are living large when the citizens in great pain are being told to sacrifice more and be patient.
This is particularly true of our legislators at the national level- fat salaries, exotic cars and opulent lifestyle. Why no leadership by example?
