    I am from the Caribbean. Try scaling the fish and then cook it whole. That lets you eat the skin too. It’s very delicious and nutritious!

      I agree, if you were surviving for months out there you would definitely want to get the fat and nutrients from the skin. (and its delicious)

    Hey so when you’re bowfishing you have to aim low due to the light refraction. Idk how much per depth but the sunlight makes it look like it’s not as shallow. So I’d say in like 3 feet of water aim at the bottom of the fish. I haven’t read any previous comments so idk if anyone has told you this . Anyhow I hope it helps and I like your videos. Thanks for making them. Lol

      Great advice. But why are we all ignoring the fact that this whole concept is BS. Target tipped arrows (one broadhead) with no line shooting at 3ft plus sharks....WTF! even if he hits one he will never recover it. The odds of a stone shot are so low they aren't even worth considering. This is unethical and total bullsh*t. It's like deer hunting with a pelt gun.

    @Knifeparty1124 2 ปีที่แล้ว +315

    The problem you are facing with your bow fishing is that you are thinking of the target (fish) being exactly where it is visually. That is actually not the case due to Refraction. The fish (or shark) is actually slightly lower in the water than it appears due to the way light interacts. You can test this interaction by placing a pencil in a half full glass of water.
    But yeah cool video, just a tip on how to improve your accuracy in this regard.

    Might want to plant either a coconut or some limes there. Considering you're not staying on the island 24/7 all year long, it would make an excellent project to check on their growth when you come back. The lime would also be an excellent source of fruit juice and vitamin c, some aloe vera plants would also help with any burns you might sustain.
    I would recommend you get one of those massive straw hats and some kind of cloak to help cut down on the sun's effects on your body. You can still wear just shorts and shoes underneath it and it doesn't have to longer than your waist to avoid it getting waterlogged, but there is a lot of danger involved with sun exposure on what amounts to a deserted island(heat stroke, heat exhaustion, skin cancer, dehydration, and delirium are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head right now).
    You also might want to make a project out of moving some of those rocks to form a pier of sorts out into the water. That way you can safely walk out further into the water without needing to worry so much about getting cut on the rocks if you slip. Maybe want to bring some fishing line so that you can attach it to your arrow so that you can haul the arrow and whatever its speared back to you, cause bigger fish like the shark are not going to go down right after you spear them and might escape with your arrow instead out into deeper/more dangerous waters.

    I’ve spent a couple hundred hours bow fishing. A couple observations: bow fishing arrows are heavy fiberglass, heavier the better really, you loose a lot of energy in the water. Also, you aim 6 inches below the fish for every foot of depth, so 2 feet deep-shoot 1 foot below. Also, only certain species are fair game for bow fishing, not sure if salt water regulations are different and obviously different state/countries would have different regulations.

      Kinda doubt this dude is carrying around a fishing license or cares for his "survival" series. Kinda erks me to see people blatantly doing something they've clearly never practiced before with little regard for rules or regulations. It's better content to see someone good at their craft rather than flying by the seat of their pants in a very high skill-cap technique. Like dude, at least setup some targets underwater that aren't moving and hit those before you're trying to hit a live shark and miss every time. In a survival situation I guess you gotta do what you gotta do but if you're doing it for fun then at least put some effort in for fucks sake.

    • @lh2155
      @lh2155 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomasriding3194exactly your comment. The guy is only interested in making $$content and either doesn't care about his environmental impact or doesn't have the intelligence to calculate it. My first concern was how he was going to collect any fish he hit... bit I'm guessing a few sharks swimming around with arrows hanging out of them would be a laugh. 🤔

  • @Thataliah
    @Thataliah 2 ปีที่แล้ว +55

    I don't know how you are holding your nock end, but you sometimes hold your finger around the arrow at the rest. When ppl do this, it's usually because they are touching the arrow as they draw and the arrow is trying to swing out on them. When you draw make sure you are not touching the arrow, just the string. The nock will hold to the string all on it's own. Holding the arrow at either end will throw off the arrow, and squeezing the nock as you draw is what causes the arrow to swing. Also, since you are using a bow that does not have a rest, you might want to try tilting the bow for your shot, make a v between the bow and your finger, and only hold the bow with your thumb and index finger. Don't grip your bow.
    If you are 10 feet (3 m) away from the fish, and you guestamate that the fish is about a foot under the water, aim 4 inches (10cm) lower than you see the fish. If you think the fish is lower than a foot aim lower still. Those shark look like they almost swim with their bellies touching the bottom. go take a walk out there where you have seen them and get an idea how deep the water is there. If it's 2 feet, aim somewhere between 6 and 9 inches lower than you see the fish.
    Fuzzycuzzy might be right about the Shark swimming off with the arrow; you might think about putting a line on the arrow. You might also want to put a fishing tip on it so it can't pull itself off the arrow. Good luck.

    Hey Cavy you should try a fish trap. Pick a good spot & arrange some rocks & or branches, leave an opening and chuck in some crushed crabs (fish guts or whatever) when the tide goes out. When the tide comes in bingo dingo easy targets. I've done this before to catch bait, whiting and mullet mostly. Sand hole traps on sand banks with an entrance work great like this also.

    Keep the bow still throughout during and after loosing the arrow and get all four fingers wrapped around the bow.
    That index finger pointing at your target isn’t going to do anything but get in the way and alter the course of the arrow when you let it go and your finger makes contact with the flights of the arrow or the arrow itself. If you say or think you won't make contact with the arrow or the flights, well that may even be true but even if it is it is just another thing for you to have to think about avoiding doing which is only going to add to distracting you from making your shot. Hope this helps. Thanks for the video/s and God bless you.

    I was a science teacher. Light bends toward the normal when it passes through a denser medium, such as water or glass, just like a car axle passing through deep mud at an angle. Then it reverts to its original direction in air or space, so, if you are looking at something in water, it is slightly below where it appears to be. Keep doing it. You're having more fun than me.

    You need to get your index finger of the right hand away from the Arrow. Aim should be much better!
    Just grap the bow with your full hand and just rest the arrow on top of it. Dont extend your index finger. if the arrow falls down, angle your bow alittle bit to the left like you already do.
    Beautifull place btw.

    My experience is that Bow fishing is much more effective in fresh water or protected pools. Waves reflected light as in glare and shooting from too far away are all not conducive to success. The angle of the shoot if too flat or oblique hampers success too. Spear fishing will much more effective in your setting. Hang that hammock higher mate cause of the crocs

    • @helmutschmitt4504

      Any larger fish will swim off with your arrow. You need a line attached to the arrow. And use fishing arrows not dumbass target arrows and broad heads. Taking potentially wounding shots at quarry is inhumane. You will wound it, It will swim off, and suffer for hours before it dies because of your naïveté. Keep your kills clean or f off, yeah?

  • @MWStepp
    @MWStepp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +42

    Loved your video. It's the first one I've seen you do; definitely not the last. You might try using a slingbow some day. The wrist rocket conversions are easier to become accurate with than a bow, take up a lot less room in your pack, water won't damage it (at least not in the short term), and you can attach a fishing reel to keep the fish from swimming away with your arrow. Also, those of us who bowfish usually wade (in fresh water)--if you are still for a while, the fish will come close. Aim low and up close for the best results. Also, fishing points will work much better than broadheads or target points, because the fish cannot dislodge them and swim away.

      where are you from

    • @MWStepp
      @MWStepp 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aytuncuslu I live in northeast Oklahoma. We have seven lakes and several rivers and streams in about a 30-minute drive. I've not been to one of the bow fishing tournaments in the last few years, but Lake Eufaula used to have a great tournament every year. My partner and I took 3rd place one year with 270 pounds of fish. You are not allowed to hunt gamefish, but our wildlife department has always encouraged bow fishing for carp. Bow fishing keeps the carp numbers down, so they do not crowd out bass and other freshwater game fish. Some of the hunters took their bounty home (to pressure cook and turn into fish patties), but most of the fish went to a local restaurant that specialized in that type of cuisine. We used a boat to get to good spots, but mostly we waded in ankle to knee-deep muddy water. You can hunt using a fishing reel, or you can just use cheap wooden arrows without a line. Either way, the fish cannot get away once they've been arrowed. Don't use a fancy, expensive bow, though. Instead, use a cheap, fiberglass recurve or a sling bow. I'm an instinctive shooter, so I don't even use a sight, and I wade in shorts and tennis shoes. It's great fun. You should try it.

    • @MWStepp
      @MWStepp 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aytuncuslu So what's bow fishing like in Turkey? Do you hunt deer or other large game with a bow and arrow? Do you hunt with a rifle? The most popular hunting here is done with a rifle, but many of us prefer to hunt with bows and arrows. After a few years of hunting with a rifle, many Americans, especially those of us who live in more primitive areas, prefer to hunt with bows, because it is much harder and requires a lot more skill at stealth, camouflage, and tracking.

    Your issue wasn't hitting the sharks with the arrow. It was using practice points and it not being able to penetrate their skin thickness because of arrow speed and sharpness. Use that broadhead but first get used to shooting the broadhead arrow because it will fly differently than the practice tips. Save those practice tips for the fish. Also to reduce weight battery wise you should consider carrying a small solar charge panel and use that to charge as you go out and about to record your adventures. Cut down on size and weight, plus you have more room for the good shit! :) Love this show bro. Would love to have the time and means to travel like this.
