The TRUTH about FS10i elliptical and Nordictrack

  • BUYER BEWARE!!
    After finally sending a technician out (after 60 days!) to check out this brand new completely un-usable FS10i machine we were advised that the machine is working as it should. The problem (according to Nordictrack) is it was designed to only go slow. So we paid $3,000.00 for an unusable piece of junk.
    We immediately demanded a complete refund. However Nordictrack refused to take responsibility for their defective product and demanded a restocking fee of 600.00 plus shipping fees. Basically $1,000.00 just to send it back. As we did further research on the company we were shocked to find out that Nordictrack has the worst reputation in the industry for quality, support and customer service.
    We are posting this to hopefully save somebody else from being ripped off by this unbelievably bad company.
    There is much much more to the story. Feel free to message me for further details.

    I just assembled mine today and did a short workout on it. This video demonstrates user error. Mine works fine. She is exceeding the maximum stride, that's why you hear that banging sound. I am a lot bigger than her and naturally have a much larger stride, and I don't have this problem.

    We just purchased a FA14i which is similar to the FS10i just with a bigger screen and can decline 10% as well as the FS10i’s 10% incline. We participated in a virtual demonstration with a Nordictrack salesman. We had previously watched this video which we described to the salesman. Basically he stated they are over striding the unit and banging against the front and rear strider peddle mounts. These machines have an auto stride length determine by the person on the machine. Anyway the salesman demonstrated over-striding and duplicated exactly what this video demonstrates. It’s not the machine but the person. We were able to do the same on our machine. The salesman highly recommend avoiding this condition as it will damage the machine. also all other ellipticals have a fixed stride based on the diameter of the flywheel. This design allows you to adjust your stride based on your normal body mechanics, going up hill, down hill, speeding up or down, stair-stepping up, cross-country skiing and so on. It’s a very versatile machine. Maybe Nordictrack could improve the design to resist over-striding. Anyway, I’m not sure of these folks’ motivation, I strongly believe the problem is the operator not the machine. This design is amazing in what it allows you to do simulating real-life running. Mating it with iFIT and it’s incredible.

      Ok, we’ve now been religiously using the Freestrider since the last post so we have some time under our belt. My opinion has not changed and this video should NOT be used to make your judgement. These folks are clearly abusing their FreeStrider. Because your stride length is totally up to you, yes you can run the foot peddles past they’re design travel and that is what these folks are doing. There is nothing wrong with the machine. I’m 6’ and my wife is 5’7’’, it is a challenge to used to available stride length.

    So...I have ignored this review and ordered one anyway. Fabulous machine. You have to control your movements. I would sue these people for false statements. Yes if you use it like they are doing you can bang against the extremes of the machine but this is not how it works. Very happy with my purchase. Just learn to use it properly. A harder workout than any of the other elliptical machines I have used.

I’m a lot bigger and stronger than girl on video and my machine did not do any of that banging noise. I actually got a great 20 min workout and am looking forward to more. I will update in future if anything changes and it gets more use

    I receiving mine two weeks ago and I immediately didn't like the banging & clanging! I spent an afternoon trying to contact someone at NordicTrack, after a 2 hours hold time, I finally talked with some one who had me send him a video of the noise. I sent a video much like yours and was subsequently told that that is the normal operation of the this machine. So live with the banging or return it. I am within my 30 day return window so I am returning it. I do have to pay $250 for someone to come get it but we are responsible for getting it downstairs and into our garage. I'm also out the $199 I paid to get it delivered and setup. So about $450 dollars down the drain. I wish I had seen your video before buying.

    Either you are exaggerating your movements or you are letting the machine control you. I got mine and it’s definitely awkward at first. You can’t mindlessly make strides with this machine. It forces you to use accessory muscles that you aren’t normally using on a standard style elliptical. YOU have to make a conscious effort to control the motion of the machine. With that said, I didn’t like the machine at first but once you get used to the different ranges of motion, it’s pretty awesome. This is solely my opinion and it works for me. I can see how some don’t like it.

    I bought an FS10i and it's the best elliptical I've ever used. I watched your video and others before buying, and other people didn't have any problems. Maybe Rachel isn't very coordinated? I wanted the long stride length and decided to buy, and am happy to report that it doesn't take a lot of practice to use it smoothly. It's also pretty quiet. Of the ellipticals I've used, it's comes the closest to a running gait without the pounding of a treadmill.

  • @cornishpasty4344
    @cornishpasty4344 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You should put a mat underneath it... the noises are from the machine actually moving. You can even see that in the video. You're literally shoving the arms into the console. You are using the equipment incorrectly.

    I'm researching because I received a fairly new one for FREE. I asked the person why they were giving it away. The lady said she couldn't really use it due to her back and old age. After bringing it home, I understand why. lol. I can't believe they let something like this out of the box. Why will it let you "over-stride" like that if it causes issues? It's supposed to be a 3 in 1 machine and maybe that's why it's so awkward. However, using it as an elliptical trainer is aggravating. It will take time to figure out how much effort you can and cannot use in order not to "over-stride". I would've been really disappointed had I shelled out money for this. I'm considering taking it to the dump if things don't improve.

  • @1lapmagic
    @1lapmagic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Looks like she's intentionally slamming it back in order to misrepresent the machine or misusing it in some other way. EDIT: After looking again I see that she's slamming the arm lever forward on purpose. This is why it sounds significantly louder when the cycle hits on the right side; it's because her right arm is stronger.

  • @mrow9999

    Free stride machines require that you coordinate and control your stride so that you don't bump up against the limits of the machine. This is not unique to Nordic track equipment. It is understandable that anyone who's been using an elliptical with a controlled stride movement would be used to the machine controlling the limits of your stride. Since virtually all ellipticals until about 12 years ago were controlled stride machines, almost everybody has a period of adjustment getting used to a free stride machine. I can remember getting on a free stride elliptical by another manufacturer in a gym in the ought years. I didn't like it at first, but later I appreciated it was better for my natural balance and musculature. The most important thing about exercise or equipment is that you enjoy it so that you will keep a regular schedule. Certainly Free stride equipment is not for everybody and they're not for anyone with balance problems. try the machine in a gym or store before you committed to it.

    This machine work perfectly fine as long as you adapt to how it works. It is not a regular elliptical. You have to use all body parts as part of a rythmic movement. Mine did the same as the one above til I figured it out and now it works perfect and is an outstanding machine. If you are wanting just a lazy ass elliptical for an easy workout buy something cheap. if youre not willing to work for results save your money.

    I’m not surprised at all. I bought a Nordictrack Elliptical a while back and had nothing but issues with it making noises. I’ve been told everything from “it will sound better once you wear it in” to “that’s the sound of normal wear” huh? So I have to wear it in to make it sound better and then eventually it will also make these sounds when it wears out??? Also right out of the box it had a bad console and needed to be replaced. They sent me a replacement and I had to install it myself. I thought by paying top dollar on a well known brand I’d get a better machine but I was wrong. I still have it in my home gym and it still makes all sorts of annoying noises. I’ve traveled all over the country and worked out on many different brands and I’ve never heard an elliptical make so many noises. I’ve researched getting an in-home repair person to come out but the estimated cost isn’t worth it. I have no intention of ever buying another Nordictrack brand product.

    Your stride length is to long, shorten how far back you stride and problem solved. Mostly a user error. If you want to take a full running stride length do the research and buy the right model. Buy a hammer and complain when it takes to long to demolish a house with it🤨. The customer service does suck though.

    After watching the video and reading the comments I've realized that most of the user dont really know how to use a free stride bike. The noise that it's making because she cant control the bikes stride. Freestride means that your are how is controlling the stride. Case closed. It's not Nordic Track's fault that the user has no experience and know how to use the bike.

    Same problem. Nordictrack even sent us a new one after several 1-2 hour phone calls to their terrible customer service team. Both had this issue so the entire machine bangs when using the incline function. So if you bought it for iFIT the machine bangs on any workout once the incline engages. The "New" machine less the a month of use is making clicking noises and the safety belt broke of with normal use. I fell backwards off the machine. Do not buy this machine. Terrible product, terrible customer service, and potentially unsafe. We don't know what to do at this point. And yes we know how to use machines.

    • @melissadidericksen3024
      @melissadidericksen3024 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep VERY IMPORTANT to not take your hands off esp when you are in incline. It is IMPERATIVE that you don't I have almost fallen too though I make sure to keep a hold of the handles when it goes into incline.
      Yes they are a long wait on the phone and etc imagine it has been COVID time when so many are sent home away from work... though it is worth it in the end when everything is taken care of and done. I had my first machine replaced cause it had a frame issue.
      The banging was or is happening because she is not controlling her body. This thing only has so much that it goes and yes I have banged it too and in fact made my machine move fwd but when I finally got my body under better control that stopped happening.
      Mine has made the clicking noise had the tech come out and now it has stopped for now he said when it happens just go with it till it does it everytime I am on it then call again for it to get checked out, it is like a car with a check engine light that comes on but it won't come on for the tech. So for now it is acting fine and normal.
      The belt I am guessing broke from all the banging.

Then I started looking more into actual maintenance of machines and the noise they all eventually start making. This was horrible to see since it looks like they make it difficult to maintain all the components on your own. I have an FS10i and it rocks back in forth when the incline goes above 0. After calling NordicTrack and having technicians come out and try to fix this machine, they gave me the same excuse about how my machine is working as expected. In my case, one side of the machine bounces up and down but the other doesn't causing this wobbling effect and the whole machine starts to scoot across the floor if I do any kind of moderate exercise. Do NOT recommend anyone to buy this overpriced hunk of garbage. It's obvious NordicTrack knows about the issue and they just want the problem to go away because they can't afford to fix the issue being that this is probably due to a major design flaw that didn't get properly QA'd before they sold it on the market.

      This is because it’s being used improperly. This is not a typical elliptical. Everything is controlled with your legs and it’s designed to have you use your legs and not just go into auto pilot. The banging noise is from the user not controlling the motion with their lower body and legs. I have the FS10 and it takes about a week to get used to the three different moves: run, power walk, and stepper. I recommend doing an iFit workout with John Peel to be taught the proper way to use it. You won’t be sorry and all of these negative reviews will prove to be completely wrong.

    My experience exactly! Worst piece of equipment I have ever purchased. Feet keep sliding off
    the outside of the foot pads. And that was for the five times it worked
    before it broke down and cost me another $180.00 for a technician to
    come and repair it. Totally overpriced dung heap.

      Shouldn't cost anything to have a tech come check it out for you esp if you have had it for a short while. I also always get extended warranties/and the maint plan too to help take care of it. I do notice my feet slide some too but since I know about it I check in with my feet to make sure they are planted right.

    I agree with this video i have the bigger one thinking i could get a longer stride length due to my long legs and this thing is a jerky piece of shit that does exactly what the video shows.Makes mo sense the go slow how are you supposed to evolve into more quicker harder workouts if you have to stay slow.Totally true and ridiculous

      Everyone here's an update. Nordic Track finally sent a contracted delivery company out to pick the unit up on June 29th. We had to have it partially disassembled and ready for pick up when they got here. I asked the contractor if he picked up many Nordic Trak returns and he said he averaged 2-3 per day. That's an awful lot of returns!
      As far as the refund we originally paid 3,675.00 (including shipping) and received a partial refund of 2,675.00 on July 16th. 800.00 short of the cost. The unit was unuseable out of the box and was never used one time. We had called for technical support immediately and were told they had to send a tech out but we had to wait for several months waiting on a technician during the Corona crisis.
      An honorable company would have given a profuse apology and a full refund. We intend to do whatever we can to try and get our money back. We don't expect it to be easy based on our past customer service experience and their reputation.
      In the meantime we bought a Precor elliptical. It was more expensive but night and day difference in quality. Precor's technical and customer support has also been superb.
      We hope this helps some other person. To be fair we will also post an update if we ever do get our money back.

      Glad you were able to get it replaced. Although it's really unfortunate that you didn't get more of you're money back. I could see if they maybe charged the $199 shipping, but $1000 or so, is ridiculous!

      I’ve used the precor AMT at gyms for years. There is simply nothing like them that gives me as good a workout outside of running on flat ground. They’ve come out with a home version but even that’s about $3,000. I so wish the commercial AMT wasn’t so expensive.
