Yes more Seven Days in June reviews!! I enjoyed reading about two adults who are trying to move forward in their own ways while balancing the world around them! Reading it in June is even better

Seven Days in June!!! I love that someone is finally talking about it! I so loved that story! And I loved Eva's relationship with Audre! They are so precious and multidimensional!

Totally agree re: you probably would have enjoyed Circe more had you read it before Kaikeyi. Last year, I read Circe and it made it on my top favorites of the year, but Kaikeyi blew it out of the water for me. I read Kaikeyi last month and I haven't been able to rate a fiction book 5 stars since then, it's truly raised the standards for me!

If you liked conversations with friends but not the other books, there’s an essay collection I really enjoyed and it shows me what Sally Rooney would be if she were of color and also a lil bit less enclosed into fiction, which is called “Intimations” by Zadie Smith
She’s got what I like about Sally’s writing PLUS comments and views that I found extremely validating from a woman of color’s perspective (I am Latina, so)

I love Seven Days in June! It was fabulous! I loved Shane, I just loved him as a character and how much he loved Genevieve I might need to add the Real Easy to my TBR!

Seven Days in June is good! I liked the first half of Malibu Rising, but then TJR zoomed out during the party and I didn't really care about the attendees. I just started Kaikeyi today because you've spoken so highly of it and I can't wait to get further in!!

I read Circe at the end of 2019 and absolutely loved it. I loved all the “witchy-ness” of it, and the beautiful island. It definitely has a slow pace, and that frustrated me a little, but I saw it as an opportunity to slow down my reading and enjoy the process, rather than only enjoying finishing the book. I can’t wait for Kaikeyi!!

I feel your review of Circe vs Kaikeyi so much! I technically read the final version of Kaikeyi AFTER I read Circe but I read an early draft of Kaikeyi about 2 years ago, and it definitely influenced how I read Circe. Her lack of agency definitely frustrated me too!

So glad I’m not the only one that felt that way about Circe. I actually DNF’d it. Nothing was happening and it lead me to boredom.

Normal people is one of my favorite books of all times. It hit right home. I cried almost the whole book cause I felt it so deeply in my heart.
I don't think the characters were just making problems up. I think this is real life... Humans always create problems where there are none...most of us lead boring lives and the only exciting thing is the trauma we have... And the cycle of abuse was spot on! Going back doing the same mistakes and clinging to something you know is bad for you... It's just something most of us live.
But yeah, I guess it depends on taste. I hated the song of Achilles and red, white and royal blue 😂... I DNFed them cause I just couldn't go through the cringe.

I LOVEEDDD Seven Days in June. It was so nice to read about Black main characters in a romance book and I definitely want to read more books with POC leads. That's a reason why I loved Terms and Conditions by Lauren Asher because the main character Iris is a strong black female lead. I loved seeing someone like me in a romance book I highly recommend 😊 Also, I think I was too harsh when I was rating Malibu Rising. I think about that book a lot, it was just not what I was expecting so I was disappointed in the moment.

WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT YA and not having as much fun anymore -- i relate omg! so glad I'm not alone. i used to adore YA so much, but now i just can't seem to enjoy them as much as I previously did. :( as soon as i see a novel marketed as YA i do a double take and ponder on whether I should spend time reading it :O generally though, i try not to shop or read for YA books anymore..,.

I’m not a literary fiction reader either, but i decided to pick up Normal People because of the hype. I gave it 4 stars because i thought the characters were really well developed & psychologically complicated. However, I didn’t relate to them, which was surprising since so many others did, which kind of made me feel alienated. Sally Rooney’s writing style is also quite blunt and conversational, which i didn’t dislike, i kind of just tolerated. i can understand why people gave it 5 stars but also why others can give it 1 star.
i’m not interested in reading any other of Sally Rooney’s works at the moment, though.

I loved the first half of Malibu Rising, but I think it sort of fell flat on the second one, too many characters doing too many things at once. I still have Daisy Jones & the six in my TBR, gotta find a chance to read it!

    • @thisstoryaintover

I loved Malibu Rising, I gave it 5 stars. I was surprised by it, it was very different from Daisy Jones and Evelyn Hugo, but it totally gave me feels, so it got 5 stars. Out of the 3, though, this is my least favorite.

pretty much-I think my taste is definitely shifting away from YA and I don't feel the desire to pick them up as often anymore. that's not to say I'll never read YA again, but I think you'll see more wrapups like this where I only read 1-2 YA books a month at most!

I personally didn’t enjoy Malibu Rising. The ending was quite underwhelming for me. As readers we know that there will be a fire at the end of the book, but when we find how the fire was caused it just felt like ‘oh, okay’. I also didn’t like the character POVs of the people who were at the party. I realise what the author was trying to do there, but I don’t think it was done very well plus it made the main story feel disjointed to me.

    • @thisstoryaintover
      @thisstoryaintover  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I feel that! the ending wasn't spectacular and I agree that the POVs of random people at the party didn't impress and simply took me out of the story! I think I preferred the first half to the second half of the book for sure!
