A Canal mystery until next week. Yes I'm a bit late viewing. Did you ever think you'd be doing the Narrowboat rain dance? Would that have helped? Love to Paul, Anthony and Sweet Dexter the "Lad". 😉😘😘😘😉
Hey Wendy. Thanks for watching. It is weird to think how torrential the rain was the week before and then no water! It was very scary. I really thought we were going to sink. Have a good weekend and take care ❤️ .
Hey Mo. It really was. I was genuinely scared the boat was going to sink at lock 1E 😬. Thankfully, CRT were really good. Dexter always oversees what is going on bless him. Love to you and Haribo ❤️ 🐾
Holy cow! This journey put the word narrow in narrowboat. I’m not sure I’d have the spacial awareness to pull that off. My boat would likely look like a hot mess at the end of the day. Kudos to you both and a virtual chin scratch to Dexter. 👏😘🐶
Hey Michael. It really was and very challenging. Glad we did it but wouldn’t be in a rush to do it again any time soon. Such a shame as it is so beautiful round there too. Hope you have a good week. Sorry for the late reply but I was working yesterday. Love to you from us all aboard Morning Star ❤️
A lot of those locks looks so tough to wind the paddles up and down, I think I would have a problem using the windless to do them on my own, and I’m wondering how on earth Narrowboat Girl manages! Look after yourselves guys.❤️x x
There really are some tough locks. Hat’s off to single handed boaters. We were given the advice to always keep a can of WD40 with us lol. So far so good. Enjoy the rest of the week ❤️
Lol. Thanks Bob. He has a holster my brother bought him but don’t think it works well. I do keep telling him not to leave it on top though. Enjoy the rest of the week. ❤️
Wow that was a very tight squeeze guys but perfectly navigated as always. Lovely to see Dexter. Looks like some of them locks are really hard going. Take care guys and have a great week.
It's great when the weekend finally arrives and a new video from Paul and Ant pops up on my notifications. Always looking forward to your videos to help wind down and see how you're both doing on that floating house. 😊👍👍
I am feeling guilty because I'm sitting in my easy chair, drinking my coffee, and you two are working so very hard to bring me this beautiful video. Just know you are not taken for granted. I appreciate all the hard work you, three, do. I enjoy the beauty of the scenery and the stories you tell. Thanks a again from expat Brigitte.
Hey Brigitte. Don’t feel guilty. Easy chair and coffee sounds amazing 😉. Glad you enjoy our vlogs and each challenge we encounter helps with our confidence as new boaters. Thank you for your kind comments and take care. I am currently sat on the sofa with a coffee too having a very relaxing day. ❤️
Quite impressive making those narrow spaces and sharp turn! Can only imagine the scrapes, bumps and just plain accidents those spots cause. Another lovely blog- you three always deliver! Many thanks.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed. It really was narrow and when the boat started to list, it was very scary. Glad to say we are now on much wider and deeper canals 😁. Take care and have a good week. ❤️
Thoroughly enjoyable. The water levels are often low. Jen, my partner, has said that many of the canal feeding reservoirs were sold off to the water people when the canal was in disuse. Take care.
Thanks David. That’s interesting what Jen says. I wonder if that is the issue. It was very scary with all that shallow water. Glad you enjoyed the vlog and best wishes to you and Jen ❤️
😳😢 scary ending there…I trust CRT will get you out. But it must be intense looking at options. What an adventure! You never know until you come across it. The canals are super narrow. Good job guys for steering Morning Star through…all the best! Hope you all have good rest after this ordeal 😌 and wish Paul’s neck ache goes away soonest.
Simone did tell us to check the water levels but we were so tired and it was a 15 minute walk around town to go and see, not sure where else we could have moored to be honest. Neck feeling better thanks 😊
Hi Paul Anthony and dexter O M G narrow yous did a brilliant job between you's, great vlog interesting hope no damage to narrowboat hope all is well with you's, have you got to go back that way at some point Take care stay safe 🐕🐕🐕
Hey Helen. Glad you enjoyed. It was very scary I can tell you. 😬. No harm to the boat thankfully. We are still afloat and on a much deeper canal and no, we don’t have to go back that way thankfully. I would say to people to give it a go though as the scenery was beautiful. Have a great week. Take care ❤️
Oh my goodness! Whoever would have thought that Huddersfield could be so hair raising? I was glued to the vlog. Thank you Paul that was brilliantly filmed. Ant(h)ony was amazing at the tiller, the narrowness of the canals and that dog leg turn needed real skill. I was holding my breath! Then to top it all a narrow tunnel and next to no water in the canal. You are two brave adventurers... I don't know how you do it! I needed a cup of tea and a bit of chocolate after watching that. I hope you both gave yourselves a bit of a treat and can't wait to see next week. Look after yourselves.
Thank you Dianne. Looking back now we can breath a sigh of relief but at the time it was very challenging and scary in equal measures. When the boat listed I honestly thought we would sink. On a positive though, meeting those challenges as newbies helps build confidence. We loved the canal and the beautiful scenery it had to offer but glad we don’t have to retrace our steps. Have a great weekend. Take care ❤️
Today’s episode is certainly a cliffhanger! Will the boys ever get out? Are they stuck in Huddersfield forever? Stay tuned for next week’s thrilling answer…
Lol. It did feel like that at the time. Was very challenging and not sure I would want a repeat any time soon 😬. Glad, as new boaters, we rose to the challenge and came through the other side though. It does help a little with the confidence of tackling other challenges the cut has to offer. Have a good week Kathy and take care ❤️
Aaaahhhhh.....you guys ended the vlog on a cliff hanger! Stuck in a low pound with nowhere to go but wait for CRT to help with the water and locks! I know that this was likely weeks ago, and all is well now, but it must have been scary to be listing with water levels dropping! I wouldn't have slept either...😬
Louise it was awful. I thought we were going to sink. Thankfully, you are right, was weeks ago and we live to tell another tale. Hope you are keeping well. Take care ❤️
Thanks John. That has to be the most challenging situation to date 😬. As new boaters, it does help with your confidence though on a more positive note. Have a great week. ❤️
I only knew the canal thru the Aspley Basin so it was an interesting journey today. Dexter is such a good boy, never strays, always close at hand. My little terror would be off at the first sign of a person or dog, for such a small dog he can run at 90 miles an hour...maybe!! lol So we will have to wait til next week to see how you get out of that lock....who was it who used to say "that's a fine mess you've got us into?" (Comment pointed towards the canal not you guys). All in a day, glad you are safe. Love and hugs as always.
Hey Lesley. It was a scary moment when the boat listed. Really thought we were sinking. Glad you enjoyed seeing this stretch. Another viewer said the same that they only knew the canal to Aspley. Dexter is good bless him. It is always the small ones that are mischievous. At 5’ 4” I can speak from experience 😉. Laurel and Hardy lol. It was a fine mess. Thankfully we are still afloat and onwards on our journey. Take care and love from us all aboard Morning Star ❤️
Top video thank you, hope you manage to get through the lock, i guess I will have to wait and see on the next video. Just a thought what about taking high strength CBD oil for your neck 😊
Hi Paul Anthony an Dexter, wow that was shallow an narrow hope the boat wasn't scraped. I feel for you Paul if you've got a trapped nerve in your neck the pain can be excruciating I've had it so I know, I've had ops and bone removed an I take a tablet called Gabapentin and it's wonderful,it really helps with pain hope it's soon better 😊
Hey Angela. That canal was challenging but we did enjoy it. The bit at the lock, not so much. I really thought we were going to sink. Paul’s neck is getting better thank you. You sound like you have been through the mill though. Have a good week. Take care ❤️
This was a treat on a gray, rainy day. A canal without water is not a good thing! 😨 And, yes, hindsight is always better. I could fix a lot of things with do-overs. 😉 I really liked those flat-sided containers. They could be made into a really pretty tiny house. I also love all the stonework in that area. It is a shame about all those old buildings. I guess it would cost too much to tear them down and reuse the stone or to rebuild them. Paul, I hope your neck is better now. It would be hard to do so many locks when you are in pain already. Super vlog as always! 💗💗
Hey Dorothy. It wasn’t good and very scary too. I wish you had been there to fix it. We have seen programmes that have used those containers for houses. Some are amazing. You are probably right re the cost of rebuilding the buildings but what a shame. Paul has twinges but is getting better thank you. Have a great week and sorry for the late reply, I was working yesterday ❤️
@@anthonysmith-storey9247 If I'd been there I'm afraid we would have still been in big trouble! 😊 I hope the CRT got someone there pretty fast. Backing up on that narrow canal was obviously not an option since going forward had its moments. Container houses can be really beautiful. I love tiny houses which is I guess why I'm drawn to narrowboats. That's another dream of mine that is much more likely than a boat in England. When I can't sleep I design "my" narrowboat in my head. It's very pretty. Glad Paul is feeling better. I hope work is going great for you. Only three days a week gives your more time to cruise which is great except for the scary bits. 😨 I've seen that the weather there isn't very nice right now. It's rainy and chilly here too. We'll still have pretty days but winter is coming. Have a great week. 💟
Well, I enjoyed this weeks vlog so much I bumped up a tier on the Patreon. I love the way you frame shots, as with the shot of the crank handle on the timber of the gate at the beginning of the video, and how you let it run through the boat coming into the lock. I keep noticing when you approach an urban center how interesting it looks: on one side a sort of industrial wasteland, and on the other all the greenery, with your home sailing down the center of it! And you definitely ended on a cliffhanger!!!!! I hope you have updated your status on twitter, which I am now off to check--can't let my final image be of your lovely boat high and dry in the middle of the big city! 😂
Thanks James I’m glad you notice those touches, I really like to capture them on film. I think it’s the artist eye and I love every small detail. Thanks for increasing your Patron too, that’s very kind. We made it but had to stay like that for two days can you believe. Thanks for watching and your support 👍
Aww thank you James. That’s really generous of you. Glad you enjoyed this weeks vlog. It really was challenging and I was genuinely scared we would sink at that lock. The boat felt like it was at 45°. Was like being in a fun house 😬. Dexter is totally oblivious bless him. We love going through cities and towns to get the contrast of the countryside (which is still our favourite). We are pleased to say we are still afloat. Have a good week and thanks again for your ongoing support. It really does mean a lot. ❤️
Lol. That is what we thought Lee. Always hammering it down so no idea why it is so shallow. We loved the canal but glad we are off it now. Take care ❤️
I've never seen so much greenery and i bet in a few weeks it will look totaly different but still as beautiful. Anthony you did a great job through those tight bends and narrow bits. I loved the walky talky convo, 😂 That must have been really worrying being stuck like that and poor Dexter getting confused bless him. Thank you both and take care. 💙💙🐕
I enjoyed the walk-talkie chat…reminds me of “below deck” it was so green especially when it rained. It was fun getting Dexter on and off the boat ha. Thanks for watching J. Paul xx
Hey Janice. Good to hear from you as always. It really was very tricky and scary. As you know, we have escaped unscathed. 😉. It was beautiful though and glad we did it. As we are new to boating , things like this help with confidence to deal with future challenges. Dexter never can make up his mind which Dad he wants to be with 🤣. He likes us both in the same spot. Love to you and Andy and take care ❤️ x
Hey Guys....hope you're well. Wow! nail biting stuff. Just goes to show that its not all 'plain sailing'. You did a great job though getting through unscathed especially around those tight bends. I bet you couldn't wait to get to deeper water...scarey!. Take care Guys!
Marjan it really did feel scary. We actually, at one point, thought we would sink. Dexter is totally oblivious to it all bless him. Have a good week. ❤️
Nice to see Huddersfield from the waterways, we had a long weekend there recently and saw it from the roadways. Great area for scenery, friendly people and great food. Stay safe and keep it in the middle.
Couldn’t agree more Patrick re the people. So friendly. Glad you enjoyed your visit. The canals through are beautiful too, shame they are so lacking in water and I can see why people avoid this stretch. Hope you have a great week. Take care ❤️
I know I’m a couple of weeks behind watching the whole video, but how scary for you both. Those deep locks and narrow canal, it looked creepy. Then seeing your fb post I hope your through it all now. Love from downunder 💜💜🙋♀️🙋♀️
Hey Katelyn. The locks were very scary. Unfortunately after waiting to get through the lock at Gargrave, we found out on the day that a further breech has occurred on the Leeds and Liverpool canal and we are trapped and unable to get to our winter mooring. On a positive, we are floating and safe with water and services near by. Hope you are good. Take care. Ant ❤️ x
@@NarrowboatLifeUnlocked Hi Ant, glad you have safe and floating and got services. Hope your able to get to work ok as well. What a pain not getting to your winter moorings. But least you’ll get to make new friends. I’m fine thanks. Off on a 5 day bus tour tomorrow, should be fun. Take care. Xx
It was a real challenge and we crawled through that last section, the water was so low we thought we would ground to a halt. Thanks for watching Patricia 💕
Thank you Patricia. It really was scary and glad we managed. I know what you mean re the narrow locks. Thankfully we don’t have to retrace our steps and are on deeper and wider canals now. We are glad we did it though. So beautiful. Take care ❤️
Hope you're feeling better, Paul! Well done to you both navigating through such narrow twists and turns! Give my love to Dexter, and hope you have a great week! x
Thank you. As new boaters it really was a challenge but glad we managed it. Dexter has been given a hug bless him. Hope you have a good week. Take care ❤️
We loved the Huddersfield Carole, I think we were quite lucky up until the last part of the journey, but all part of the adventure and we met some lovely people along the way, thanks for watching and have a great weekend 💕
Hi Carol we feel like we can do anything after getting through the shallow water and the lock at Huddersfield, it was definitely a challenge, but glad we did it, the icing on the cake was friends meeting us on their boat 💕
This was a great vlog, really took steady nerves and hands to navigate those very narrow canals, great job. Always look forward to your next vlog. Please pet Dexter for me and safe cruising
Thank you so much and glad you enjoyed it. It was definitely a challenge but we are glad we did it. Our friends came to see us in their boat when we got though the lock. Will pet Dexter now 💕🐕
Hey Ginger. It was very challenging and scary in parts too. Pleased to say we managed it. Dexter oblivious to the perils as always 😂. He has been given a pet thank you. Take care ❤️
Ace video guys....v narrow n shallow at times as we know. The Huddersfield can has a look...every time you vlog from there I say "we were there"....TC. Scott & Carmen (Bridgewater marina)
Hey guys. Glad you enjoyed. It is very shallow and challenging as you will know. Love when you see a familiar area someone has been to. Hope you guys are good. Take care ❤️
Hi Guys, watching sweet Dexter follow you both back n forth when you do the locks is so sweet he adores you both - he'd follow you two to the moon n back :) XXXX the Huddersfield Narrow looked horrible where you got stuck... hopefully the CRT came early morning to help you out... cheers Debz from Oz
Thanks Deborah, we love how much Dexter enjoys being out and getting along with us as we do the locks, he even watches other boats in the locks too. We had to wait a couple of days to get out of that pound and it really felt like we were trapped, so happy to get out of it. Have a great weekend 💕
@@NarrowboatLifeUnlocked wow such a worry indeed.... yep you two 'haveagoodweekend' too (Aussie slang !!!) its currently nearly 9pm here in Vic... daylight saving is starting tomoz and I can't wait... somehow it always seems you can do more with the later n lighter nights !!!! take care XXX
Hey Debs. I know bless him. He never knows whether to stay on the boat or get off with Paul. He is such a sweet boy. The canal was stunning but that was a very scary moment and the CRT were really helpful. Have a good week. Take care ❤️
Thanks, guys for another good one this week. I'm not sure I would have been so calm and polite with the CRT after all you pay enough in the license fee. Anyway, I assume you escaped from the situation because I've not heard in the news of a missing narrowboat. All the best and lots of love to all three of you.🧡 Stephen
Lol. Cheers Stephen. Sorry for the late reply but I was working yesterday and got home really late. They have us some good advice to be fair and I think they couldn’t let us through because they were letting people up the following day and if they had it would have compounded the low water situation. We are thankfully still afloat and very much enjoying the current canal. Have a relaxing Sunday and hope you are keeping well. ❤️
Hi, gentlemen! If you ever want a country chic/chippy/distressed look on the exterior of your boat, give me the tiller and an hour on the Huddlersfield. Hahaha! Yikes, that's a narrow canal! Such a shame that the canal was so shallow. Safe travels! You left us hanging! How did you get out of the shallows????
Lol. We don’t need any help with that Julia. We manage well ourselves with the distressed look 😂. It really was challenging. I thought we would sink at one point. CRT were really good though with some great advice. Have a good week. Take care ❤️
On a positive note at least this is a problem that you will know what to do if you encounter low water and get stuck again. Your photography is almost like a jigsaw puzzle, I mean colourful and scenic not in 500 pieces. Have a good week Guys😃
🤣. Thanks Alan. That is exactly what I have said to a few people. Although scary at the time, as newbies it does help with confidence for future problems. Glad you enjoy Paul’s photography, he really does put a lot of effort into what he captures. Have a good week. Take care ❤️
Oh my word, you coped so well on the really narrow places. What would have happened if a boat came the other way? I hope you show us how you got out of that last lock! Take care both.
It was definitely a challenge Valerie, we sounded our horn and hoped nothing was coming, you couldn’t walk ahead to check, it’s amazing you can get through there though. We were glad to make it out the other side 💕
Thanks Valerie. It really was a challenge. We knew nothing would come the other was as there was no way to get through the lock either direction but it would be very difficult if there was. Hope you have a good week. Take care ❤️
What an adventure!, great cliff hanger Paul. Dexter letting everyone know he was there was cute. That canal being so narrow and overgrown must have been nerve wracking to navigate through. Would have thought the CRT would keep that in check. As someone who enjoys baking, I am looking forward to another "Baking with Anthony" vlog especially with fall being here. Cuddles for Dexter - Be Safe and Be Well
Hey Leo. Glad you enjoyed. We were surprised by all the overhanging vegetation too and not sure why it isn’t more well maintained. The canal itself it beautiful either side of the town. We were very scared when the boat listed and really thought we would sink 😬. Thankfully still afloat. Sorry for the late reply but I was working yesterday and got home really late. Take care ❤️
@@anthonysmith-storey9247 No such thing as a late reply - you are 8 hours ahead of me so I never think about things being late. After working a 12 hour shift all I want to do when I get home is take a hot shower and relax.
Cheers Chris. It was very scary and pleased to say we are on a much deeper canal now. Glad we did it though. It was lucky re the boat as no idea how we would have passed. Have a good week ❤️
Thanks Jan. It was very scary. I honestly thought we were going to sink at one point. Glad we have done it and as nee boaters it made us a little more confident. Enjoy your week. Take care ❤️
Your trip looked as if the boat would get stuck as the canals were so narrow! Great job of navigation during this trip, guys! We have to say lucky chaps enjoying a great adventure. Probably not always a bed of roses but what a great way to explore and learn along the way and share these adventures with others! Wishing you all a lovely weekend. xxx
Hey guys. Hope you have both had a good week. This canal was a particular challenge. Mainly due to water shortages. I honestly thought we were going to sink! 😬. Thankfully, we are now on the Leeds and Liverpool canal and are less anxious 🤣. Have a great weekend guys and love to Greta and Johann ❤️ x
Morning guys! Oh my goodness what a tricky stretch. Great footage and artistic touches. Hope your neck is easing Paul. Looking forward to seeing how you got out of the pickle at the end! Have a great week. xxx 💕
Hi Debbie, it certainly was a challenge. I’m so glad we broke the journey in half, I think we would have fallen out with boating if we had attempted all those locks then got stuck ha. Have a great weekend 💕
Hey Debbie. It really was challenging. We are so glad we did it though as it does improve your confidence a little as new boaters. I did honestly think we were going to sink to be honest 😬. Have a great week and take care ❤️
Narrow stretch there on the way into town. Bet you'll be glad once you're through that lot. Need some loppers on way through. Looks like they don't want boats to come through with all the overgrown trees etc. Bit like when they try to block footpaths with trees and bushes overgrown to avoid you using them. You both did well with the steering considering the tight spots. It could have been worse if it was like today here pouring down! Great to see you're both putting a brave face on with it. Take care the three of you. Have a great weekend ...
Thanks Bill it certainly was a test of our skills on that final approach into town, just so glad we didn’t attempt it all in one day. We have loved the Huddersfield canal and would like to return some day. I think the problem with all the vegetation is the fact that it’s so quiet and not many boats pass through, nature does take over pretty quickly. Thanks for watching 👍
@@NarrowboatLifeUnlocked Thanks Paul, forgot your neck - hope you get your it sorted - nowt worse! I've been to a chiropractor with mine . stiff as an old board. Probably due to 30 odd years looking up under vehicles doing Mot's👍
Thanks Bill. It was very narrow and challenging. Glad we did it though. Some real scary moments. So pleased we are on a much deeper canal now. Sun seems to have come out today which is good. Hope you enjoy your Sunday and hopefully see you soon. ❤️
Wow that was an exciting adventure, thank you for sharing , I’m not surprised you didn’t sleep well when you got stuck. I do hope Paul’s neck is less painful now. Hope you have had a nice peaceful week xxx
Irene it was so scary. I really thought we were going to sink. Pleased to say we are now on a deeper canal. Hope you haven’t been working too hard. Take care ❤️
I lived in Huddersfield for the first 18 years of my life so I was looking forward to seeing where the canal was as I only remember it at Aspley! Now I have watched this I can understand why I never saw it, in fact I need to Google to see whether it’s one that has been reinstated. From Aspley I think the canal ran next to the gas works and lots of narrow Victorian streets with flower names, It’s all a long time ago!!
Hi Joy our friend works at the University, it’s a shame it wasn’t term time. I believe they changed the direction of the canal to run alongside the College. If you have an email address I will send you a photo of the canal map x
Hey Joy. We were told that the canal was diverted so you are right. We loved the canal despite its challenges and some scary moments. Hope you enjoyed seeing it though. Have a good week. Take care ❤️
LOL Dexter saying hello made my dogs jump up to see who it was, when I said it was Dexter Dani went looking for Kym’s dog who is also a Dexter. The canals seem very quiet, was this made during the summer though you do have t-shirts on. Umm Paul you just made a similar comment, passed only one boat. Thanks guys another good one.
Hey Pauline. Really under navigated this stretch. Such a shame too as it is a lovely canal. Can see why though with the shortage of water and feeling like we were going to sink. How funny re the dogs looking for another Dexter 😄. Have a great weekend. Take care ❤️
@@anthonysmith-storey9247 Yeah really scary, maybe not scary but a worry as to being stuck there for an extended time. It is pretty, and it’s different actually. 💕
Wow, that was tense navigation….I found myself sucking in my breath as you went through the dogleg and then it got even trickier! By the way your rain arrived here in Northern California, thanks for sending it it. Although it was just a tiny couple of minutes worth of drizzle! Much appreciated anyway. We ran outside when we noticed it at midnight!! Hope you liked the sun we sent you! Still in a drought here so send more rain when you have a chance!😅😂🤣
It was very different fir us Nancy, some difficult locks, low water levels and a tight squeeze into the campus area. Glad you got some rain, we had plenty this week and will happily send it your way, just send more sunshine please ☀️☀️💕
Hey Nancy. Glad you got a little rain and we definitely appreciated the sun. 😄. It was a bit scary at times to be honest but the canal itself was beautiful. So pleased we are on a much deeper canal now. Enjoy your weekend. ❤️
Oh no, all was going well along the narrow Huddersfield Canal, and what an ending, I kept looking for a happier one, were you were free and moving. Hope your neck area is better Paul, hope you got to work ok Anthony from being stuck, guess you took it all in your stride Dexter, love to you three xxx
Hey Susan. It was going so well. There were a few shallow bits and we should have know eventually that would be a bigger issue. Such a lovely canal though. All that over hanging vegetation, shame it isn’t better maintained. It was very scary to be stuck. Did get to work ok. Dexter totally oblivious to it. Thankfully we have carried on our journey. Take care ❤️
Good morning all, a different sort of cruise this week. It was a lot more built up approaching Huddersfield with lots of twists and turns, interesting seeing how the scenery changes. Bit scary with the low water levels, not a nice feeling when the boat starts listing, you did really well handling it through all of that. Hope you didn't have to wait too long before you were able to get out of the lock. Have a good weekend ❤️ xx
Hi Christine it certainly was, we enjoyed being in a town for about a day, then couldn’t wait to carry on our journey. It was fab that fronds came to meet us. Have a great weekend 💕
Thanks Christine. We loved the canal and even the challenge of it but at the time it really was scary. We got through the lock the next day and CRT were really helpful. Hope you are having a good weekend. ❤️
Wow! thats a challenging trip, low water and very narrow. I hope you get through the lock ok. Paul, don't know if this wil help but I've had neck pain and a doctor told me to roll a towel up like a sausage and put it inside the long edge of your pillow case (along with your pillow) so that when you lay your head on the pillow, the towel fills the gap between your neck and the bed therefore supporting your neck. It worked for me, so I hope it does for you. Best wishes
It certainly was Martin. We had to stay in that position for two days but so thankful when we did get though, we felt trapped. That towel tip sounds like good advice I will give it a go, it’s been bothering me now for about ten weeks. Thanks for watching 👍
It was a challenge Martin and as new boaters, helps build your confidence up. I did honestly think we were going to sink😬. Thankfully not. I see Paul saw your tip. Hope it helps as I am sick of him moaning 😂🤣. Only joking, I have a lovely bedside manner. Have a good week. Take care ❤️
Hi guys another enjoyable vlog as always. Very scary on the narrow canal and that ending was definitely a good cliffhanger. Love seeing you guys and would encourage everyone to check out your Instagram and Facebook as I do for some extra snippets and photos. Stay safe guy’s 😎
Thank you, it was certainly a challenge and glad we eventually got through that lock. Thanks for checking out our social media pages too. Have a good weekend 👍
Cheers Mat. The canal was a good experience and a little bit of a baptism of fire for news boaters like us. Glad we did it but it was very scary. Thanks for checking the insta and Facebook accounts too. Have a great week and take care ❤️
Oh my. From a picturesque cruise to this. Poor u. That must so un nerving when it’s so shallow. Is that cos locks are leaking ? Stay safe and hope you got to move as soon after as possible.
We enjoyed most of that journey but were very stressed by the end of the day. The CRT were really helpful, we also met some lovely people. We were told the section under the building leeks because they had to dig it deeper, not sure if that’s true, but highly likely. Thanks for watching 👍
We were loving this canal too but it was very scary. Not sure why the water is so low but it is renowned for it. Glad to say we are on a much deeper canal now 😁. Take care ❤️
Huddersfield Town centre canal is not picturesque but it does overcome some rather difficult engineering issues as can be seen by the skeleton structures bracing the canal walls. Low water is a problem at times but CRT are normally pretty good at rectifying it. Some really good navigation despite all of that. Onward to Aspley marina and beyond on your next vlog.
Thanks Harry. We noticed those skeleton structures. It was very pretty before and after the town but the challenges at times were very scary. We really enjoyed the rivers beyond and have been blessed with some stunning scenery too. Hope you are enjoying your weekend have been managing to get out for boules (it was boules not bowls wasn’t it?). Take care ❤️
Oh blimey, how narrow was that?!! Listing is a worry, we did a lot of it on the river Little Ouse. The fridge door would swing open on its own and getting out of the back doors was fun because one of them kept swinging shut because of the list. I expect that, like us when it first happened, you worried that the boat would tip over, but that rarely ever happens - thank goodness. Listing can make getting out of bed interesting too! Think I’ll cross that particular canal off my list, for now, anyway 😃
Yeah we didn’t get much sleep worrying about it, felt much better when we moored at the head of the lock. The Huddersfield was amazing, you should do it. I felt like I was on a reclining sofa, or the fun house xx
It really was Sheila. Challenging but enjoyable in equal amounts. You are right, I was absolutely convinced we were going to sink. 😬. I couldn’t sleep all night worrying. It felt like we were in the fun house 😬. Now on a much deeper stretch of canal and all is well in the world again 😃. Hope you guys are good. Take care ❤️
Hi Phil I couldn’t believe the camera fell off the roof of the boat, I managed to repair the mic and thankfully no damage to camera or lens. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks Phill. We enjoyed the Huddersfield narrow but it was challenging and I honestly thought we were going to sink. Camera all good and Paul managed to sort the mix too 👍. We were shocked at how shallow the canal got at times. Thankfully we are on a much easier canal now. Have a good weekend. ❤️
Hi Paul and Anthony, Dave and I watched this last week and enjoyed it, such a hard journey though. However I'm sad and devastated to let you know that Dave collapsed suddenly yesterday at tea time while taking the bins out. I saw him in the front garden lying near the hedge grabbed my phone and went to him , not breathing, phoned 999 ambulance anthem started CPR while waiting. Neighbour's came to help, I sent one to the Drs round the corner for a de fib, GP came with one she shocked him a couple time times, CPR continued until two Paramedic cars arrived and took over , ambulance arrived, 7 people working on him for over an hour. They put him in the ambulance. Then asked me to go in the house with them . Despite all their hard work he died. They were all brilliant and treated him with dignity. More to explain but will email Paul and Anthony. Dave was so much looking forward to you being on four go Narrowboating this month.
OMG Susan I am so sorry. Absolutely devastated that I didn’t get to meet him but I know Paul spoke about how lovely you both were. We are hoping to be back at the Marina this winter so if you want to come and visit us for a catch up and a coffee please feel free. We are totally shocked and want to send our heart felt condolences to you and your family. Love from both of us. Take care ❤️ sad 😔 xx
So sorry Susan, shocked and upset when I heard the news. I’m so glad I got to meet Dave and yourself at the Marina. We are both sending our love and sympathy to you and your family xx
Another great video. Very scary with the low water! Don't they keep it topped up from reservoirs? I hope you weren't stuck there too long. It was a strange set up with no path on the side.
The difficulty was waking on the boat and getting Dexter on and off 🤣 we had to carry him over the plank. Glad we were advised to moor at the head of the lock for 2 days until they could release some water and get us out. 👍
It was very scary Robin but we did enjoy the Huddersfield narrow. I think there is issues with the water levels and maintaining them as it is a know problem with this canal. Not sure why it is an issue but sure there is some engineering explanation 🤣. Take care ❤️
That was a lovely video Paul. Thanks so much for producing it. Dexter certainly did an excellent job in ensuring you and Anthony operated the locks in the correct manner! I was very surprised to see how low the water level was at the end of your film. I'm unsure as to what time of your you are in as it doesn't appear to be end of September/beginning of October.. Lack of passing traffic was another surprise. The Huddersfied Canal seems to be very quiet. Very pretty though. I hope the water situation gets better and you can get through the lock you've been locked out of. Stay safe, look after each other and I'll see you again next weekend.
Thanks Michael we managed to get out after a couple of days and very grateful to the CRT they were very helpful. It was very quiet and that’s probably why it’s become overgrown but we loved the Huddersfield Canal. Thanks for watching 👍👍
Thanks Michael. No, we tend to be 2-3 weeks behind. Dexter is always a good supervisor bless him. The canal was really challenging and a little scary at times but thankfully we got through it. It was beautiful though and pleased we went this way. It is such a shame it is under navigated but I do get why people would be put off. Have a great week and take care ❤️
Paul, Anthony, Another great Vlog. Wow this canal is a bit scary. Great cruising though. Excellent maneuvering with the boat guys on the narrow stretches, and then to be met with shallow water must have been a big worry for you. Still, you analyzed the situation and did the best thing under the circumstances. Dexter looked happy and contented walking the tow paths. Loved the Vlog. When you leave Huddersfield, is there another way out, or will you have to back track on yourself? Take care.
Thank you. It was a challenge and we were so glad to get through that lock after a couple of days. We headed onto the rivers, and back onto the Leeds and Liverpool, through Leeds and onto Skipton. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed. It was very scary, sad because the canal is so beautiful. We were pleased, as new boaters, we rose to the challenge. It helps confidence that you can tackle future issues. Dexter is always oblivious to our panics bless him. Thankfully we don’t have to go back the same way and are now on much deeper canals. Take care ❤️
Very tricky navigating. You've done well. Has Dexter ever shown an inclination to jump onto the boat when you're passing under a lock bridge? I enjoyed the bonus video last week. Great vlogging.
Cheers Paul. It was tricky but glad we did it. Dexter, funny enough. Doesn’t like deep water so knows when not to jump off. He likes paddling but nothing deeper than that bless him. Glad you enjoyed the bonus vlog. Have a good weekend. ❤️
Sheesh, almost as though they don't want boats traveling up and through that area....What if a boat was coming the other way...OMG there would be no room to maneuver.
Hey Todd. It is very challenging and difficult. Fortunately for us we never had anything coming the other way but lost bits you could just about pass 😬. How you are enjoying your week. Take care ❤️
@@anthonysmith-storey9247 Heyas Anthony. Oh my week hasn't been too exciting. Still recovering from the dreaded Covid, the virus has passed, still some symptoms remain. Going for some steroid injections into my neck and upper back, so that should help with some pain issues.
Bless you. It's what adventures are made of......after you've got where youre going safely and you can sit down with a nice cuppa* Well done for keeping your heads x G&T 😂
A lot of vloggers are complaining about low water levels. That is terrible. I hope they figure it out. It usually is because someone left a gate or paddle open. But that doesn't appear to be the case here. Can you call anyone if you get stuck and cannot get through?
Hey Sheryl. Yeah on a lot of canals, it can be because people haven’t put the lock back to its original state but the Huddersfield is renowned for being shallow. It is a beautiful stretch of canal too. Such a shame. CRT were very good when we called them with good advice for us. Thankfully we are back to deeper and wider canals. Hope you have a good week. ❤️
Hey Liam. That’s the issue. The CRT have to let water down about three locks to allow passage through that one. That is why they couldn’t let us down u til the following day and a few boats wanted passage. 😬. Scary stuff I can tell you. Have a great week. ❤️
Great navigating gents - take care xxx
Thanks Angela and thanks for watching 💕
Thanks Angela. You too ❤️
That looked well scary 😵😵. Have a good week 💕💕👍👍
It ws definitely a challenge, but all good after a few days. Thanks for watching 💕
Pamela. It really was. I honestly thought we were going to sink at one point. Hope you have a good week too. ❤️
Thanks guys cu next week
Cheers Billy and thanks as always for watching. Have a good week ❤️
Wow that was a bit hair raising well done what a team fully supported by the handsome Dexter. Keep safe see you next week Mo & Haribo xxx
Great vlog gents. love the natural and unpretentiousness of it! hope youre enjoying your cruising. keep it coming :D P
Thank you Paul. We are loving cruising. Scenery keeps getting better and we have met some amazing people this year. Have a good week and take care ❤️
I think Anthony has navigating the twisty bits down! Fun cruising video.
He certain has. I taught him everything he knows 😉
Thanks John. Glad you enjoyed. Was very challenging. Take care ❤️
Your boat is very nice inside and outside.I
hope all goes well.
Thank you so much. Have a great week. Take care ❤️
The scenery in Huddersfield is captivating:)
We have been amazed with the scenery in Huddersfield and the rest of Yorkshire 👍
Peter we were blown away. We expected a very industrial outlook but is was stunning. Have a good week. ❤️
Top Tip. Windlass holster on belt. Leaving it on balance beam? Been there. Done that. Went magnet fishing. 😟
Lol. Thanks Bob. He has a holster my brother bought him but don’t think it works well. I do keep telling him not to leave it on top though. Enjoy the rest of the week. ❤️
Hi Bob it was purely for artistic purposes honest 👍
Wow that was a very tight squeeze guys but perfectly navigated as always. Lovely to see Dexter. Looks like some of them locks are really hard going. Take care guys and have a great week.
It certainly was Mark. We were lucky to get through and so relieved when we did. Thanks for watching 👍
Cheers Mark. Very challenging but very rewarding in equal measure. Glad you enjoyed. Take care and have a good week ❤️
It's great when the weekend finally arrives and a new video from Paul and Ant pops up on my notifications. Always looking forward to your videos to help wind down and see how you're both doing on that floating house. 😊👍👍
Aww cheers Codie. We love seeing your pics too. Absolutely amazing. Hope you are both good. ❤️
Easy chair and coffee sounds amazing
😉. Glad you enjoy our vlogs and each challenge we encounter helps with our confidence as new boaters.
Thank you for your kind comments and take care. I am currently sat on the sofa with a coffee too having a very relaxing day. ❤️
Yikes some of the tunnels, turns and narrow canals make me nervous. Bravo to the two of you.
Well done you 2.started our new adventure today with a trip to whitby, fish and chips and a ice cream. Love to you all xx
Thanks Catherine. We would love to visit Whitby and that sounds perfect. Thanks for watching xx
Wow that was a narrow canal and it must have been worrying with the lack of water. Have a great week x
It really was on both counts. I honestly thought we were going to sink.
Take care. X
I'm 1st, hello boys - this week we are chartering off Croatia 🇭🇷 heading to Paxos Greece 🇬🇷 💙
Hello. You need to send us some photos 👍👍
@@NarrowboatLifeUnlocked for sure -
Hey. Oh how lovely. That sounds amazing. Loved Croatia. Only saw a bit as it was part of a cruise. Have fun xx
Another lovely adventure. Some beautiful landscapes, groovy old buildings, and one adorable fuzzy dog.
😀 thank you, glad you enjoyed the vlog and seeing Dexter 🐕💕
@@NarrowboatLifeUnlocked Dexter is a Super Star.
Aww thank you. We loved it despite some scary moments. Loved the industrial areas of the centre and aww, Dexter bless him. Have a good week ♥️
Thoroughly enjoyable. The water levels are often low. Jen, my partner, has said that many of the canal feeding reservoirs were sold off to the water people when the canal was in disuse. Take care.
Thanks David, it certainly was a challenge but nice to meet friends that week. Hope you and Jen are good 👍
Thanks David.
Thank you. It was very scary at the time but CRT were very helpful. Glad we are finally on a deeper canal although we loved the journey. Take care ❤️
Hi Paul Anthony and dexter O M G narrow yous did a brilliant job
between you's, great vlog interesting hope no damage to narrowboat
hope all is well with you's, have you got to go back that way at some point
Take care stay safe 🐕🐕🐕
OMG that’s quite an empty pound! Good solution from the crt tho. Bet they’ve done that before. ☮️
It certainly was, it was closed for ages after that. 😁
🤣🤣 thanks Jay. I never though we would get through, we felt really trapped. Make sure you tune in for next weeks vlog 👍
😂🤣. Thankfully not Jay. Although we loved Huddersfield despite its challenges. Glad you enjoyed. Have a good week ❤️
Wow Guys! That was some amazing "boat driving"!! You have nerves of steel! Hope all is well now. Take care & have a great Sunday morning! xxx ❤🐶❤
It’s great to have your skills recognised Antony.
Thanks John. That has to be the most challenging situation to date 😬. As new boaters, it does help with your confidence though on a more positive note. Have a great week. ❤️
Some trips are better than others, to remember that is, thanx for the ride
True Barbara it was worrying at the time but it does make other journeys seem much easier. Have a good weekend 💕
Thank you Barbara. We actually loved the canal, just a little scary at times 😬. Have a great week ❤️
Thanks Jules. We may have made it through 😉 I need something 👍
Thanks Jules. I had to explain to Paul what CBD oil was. It sounds like it may well help.
Hope you are good. Take care ❤️
I've seen that the weather there isn't very nice right now. It's rainy and chilly here too. We'll still have pretty days but winter is coming. Have a great week. 💟
Thanks for taking us on a lovely adventure but getting a bit more difficult going in towards the town. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Thanks Stevie. It really was challenging and very scary. Glad you enjoyed the vlog. Have a great week. Take care ❤️
Nice one lads bloody hell weres all the water gone it never stops raining up that neck of the woods hope you are all well an good 🐶🙂✌️
I loved the walky talky convo, 😂
That must have been really worrying being stuck like that and poor Dexter getting confused bless him.
Thanks James it was very stressful, didn’t get much sleep but so happy to get through that lock. Thanks for watching 👍

Nice to see Huddersfield from the waterways, we had a long weekend there recently and saw it from the roadways. Great area for scenery, friendly people and great food. Stay safe and keep it in the middle.
Hi Patrick glad you enjoyed seeing the town from the canals and that you enjoyed Huddersfield. Thanks for watching 👍
Couldn’t agree more Patrick re the people. So friendly. Glad you enjoyed your visit. The canals through are beautiful too, shame they are so lacking in water and I can see why people avoid this stretch. Hope you have a great week. Take care ❤️
Well, this last bit of canal has been a bit of hard work. You're lucky that it's quiet, you are a bit isolated where you're stuck. Take care.
Hey Phillip. It really was challenging. We were isolated which made it even more scary. Thankfully we are still afloat.
Take care. Ant ❤️ x

Another fun adventure. I was wondering if you experience a lot of smells when you’re at the bottom of a lock that’s just been emptied?
Hi Julia most if the time you don’t smell anything, sometimes it smells like a beach that has lots of seaweed. 👍
Hey Julia. It doesn’t smell bad. I think Paul means disinfectant. It definitely has a disinfectant smell which is weird.

Luck not to have boat coming towards you on that narrow canal. Hope you manage a better nights sleep tonight. Take care....Chris
I know Chris, it would be very difficult to reverse out of those tunnels and that narrow passage. Thanks for watching 👍
Cheers Chris. It was very scary and pleased to say we are on a much deeper canal now. Glad we did it though. It was lucky re the boat as no idea how we would have passed. Have a good week ❤️
I was holding my breathe going through all of that, goodness knows how you guys were feeling😱 You done so well 💓
Thanks Jan, it was a challenge and we didn’t think we would make it, but glad we did it and eventually got through xx
It certainly was Irene, we felt trapped until they let us through a couple of days later. Have a lovely weekend 💕
Dogs are just great aren’t they. We are usually 2-3 weeks behind with our vlogs. Love seeing the sunshine ☀️ thanks for watching 💕
Take care ❤️
good vid on the cut keep it cranked with frends stay safe lee
Thanks Lee, glad you enjoyed it. 😁
Cheers Lee. We honestly thought we were gonna sink 😬. Pleased to say still here to see another day. Take care pal. ❤️
It was tricky Harry, but once through lock 1 we enjoyed it especially getting out onto the rivers. Have a good weekend 👍
Another good vlog guys, lots going on this week, shame about the camera hope it's ok and you get the mic sorted. Crazy about that water level.

@@NarrowboatLifeUnlocked Thank you Paul, he was so looking forward to watching you both on four go Narrowboating.
Liked the Vlog, but I'd say that you won't be going through that section of the cut anytime soon. Safe cruising.
Ha you are right Keith. It took us two days to get through 👍
I think you can safely say that Keith. Glad we did it but definitely not in a rush to do it again. Glad you enjoyed. Take care ❤️

People we know have been stuck in Slaithwaite for about 3 weeks because of the low water levels. Today they made it down and through Lock1e.
Oh no. How terrible Sally. We thought we would be stuck if I am going to be honest. Thankfully not. Hope they have a safe onward journey. Take care ❤️
google maps took me into a school field and there was a locked gate had to walk all the way back, can be a real pain.
I nearly got stuck on top of a fence 🤣 so relieved to make it out.
Was there enough water to get into the lock?
Hey Liam. That’s the issue. The CRT have to let water down about three locks to allow passage through that one. That is why they couldn’t let us down u til the following day and a few boats wanted passage. 😬. Scary stuff I can tell you. Have a great week. ❤️
