Try using a snap cap for the first round when loading magazine then continue with live rounds. Because this pistol does not have a hold open feature after the last round is fired. This will eliminate a dry fire which will eventually harm the chamber mouth or firing pin.
Take the rear sight off. Take off the slide. From the bottom of the slide is a pin the goes up through the rear sight trough. Use a punch to push out the pin and the firing pin will slide out.
Nice video about a somewhat obscure Star Target pistol in 22lr, don't see too many of ANY of the Star 22lrs especially the Target model. Usually when you do see them they are WELL USED AND ABUSED, RATTY CONDITION. Well I've got a VERY NICE ONE that is one of the LAST VERSION of the SPORT MODEL with NICE CHECKERED WALNUT GRIPS, looks GREAT with them rather than the brown plastic ones with a not so great thumb shelf on them. You can still see the case hardening color on the hammer and another part of the trigger assembly, not sure what it is called. I did some RESEARCH on it and found that is was made near the END of production in the late 70's early 80's. Unfortunately mine needs the extractor, spring and retainer, when I got it I made the mistake of shooting STINGERS in it and the extractor and other parts POPPED OUT and couldn't find them at the indoor range I was shooting at the time. I had gotten the parts awhile back but UNFORTUNATELY for ME I had a FIRE in my BEDROOM at 3:00AM and could have DIED, but did go to the hospital for SMOKE INHALATION!! BAD NEWS a few of my TOYS got TOASTED in the FIRE, trying to replace some of them but it's not EASY some are HARD TO FIND!!!! I'm a FIRST TIME SUBSCRIBER!!! I LOVE MY 22LRS, RIFLES AND PISTOLS. I have one pistol (target) that may interest YOU, it's a Walther PP Sport-C 22lr made in Germany not France. I got the original box, 3 spare mags, 6" barrel and the 8" barrel, test target, counter weight for the 8" barrel and the paperwork of the American soldier that bought it in Germany back in 1969 2 years after it was made then brought it back to the states SO NO IMPORT MARKINGS!!!! 😉👍 I LOVE MY 22LRS, RIFLES AND PISTOLS. I've recently got into old single shots rifles like the Remington Rolling Block 1 1/2 sporter in 22lr in pretty good shape considering it's about 100 years old or more with a FULL LENGTH OCTAGON HEAVY BARREL. It's really a COOL but HEAVY rifle because of the BARREL but shoots GREAT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK PROMOTING SHOOTING AND COLLECTING COOL 22LRs.😉😁👍

Wow! What a beautiful gun! I recently got a Ruger Mark IV target with bluing, put target thumb grips and new rear sights. It’s a bit heavy for a female, but I outshot the guys out plinking, and they are good, who says women and guns can’t dance? 😁😂😂, I’ve shot the same gun you have there…. It’s worth it’s weight in Gold!🎯. I bought my Mark IV because I loved shooting that gun, but could not afford it, based on advice the Ruger was a good option. Your gun is well worth the investment though if you’ve got it! Thanks for your educational content.👍👏
@@WalnutandSteel I will check that out but as I am only a year or more into the vintage guns I watch all I can on your channel. I’ll make sure I caught it! Thanks, I thought that their may be a dry fire history I. this gun, and may be why it was an issue on that particular gun though.
Loved the video. I have inherited one of these from a family member. Unfortunately it is missing the front sight. What appears to be a set screw is missing, and the part of the sight that was held in by the set screw is gone. Thinking this may be impossible to replace. Thoughts?
@@WalnutandSteel yeah sure did! They did not have the front sight as a separate part, and the barrel I would need is not listed. I really appreciate your quick responses.
@@modulblok-e3168 thank you. What truly great craftsmanship they produce. I hope to find one some day, then learn how nice they are to shoot. From this video they seem to be a real quality item.
@@joshbrekke6374 in the EU. You found a lot of the star fr and fr sport its a newer one with last schot slide back funktion its a real nice gun eat nearly every ammo i belive hi power amo like stingers is ok the fr sport have the longer barel i shoot the fr sport one day at the range absolut good no problems 👽👍🏼

Good idea!
Also store with Empty casing to avoid dry fire. Dry firing a rim fire often ultimately ends in damage.
I am sure thats why the original firing pin was broken
22lr star pistols are very popular here in Mexico.
Funny the old Makarov had the same spring and fixed barrel set up.
Just picked up a Romania. 22 trainer rifle! Super clean! Can't wait to try her!
That one is a beauty. It reminds me of a Colt Woodsman for some reason
I've always wanted one of those star target pistols. I have a nice star bm.
สวยมากครับพี่ชาย..!!
Definitely a very nice Star, been sharing on MeWe
I have a couple 9mm Stars
My dad gave me one of these a few years ago. It needed a new firing pin, I finally (hopefully) got one but can't figure out how to replace it.
I’ll have to look at mine again I did put a new firing pin in mine but that was a while ago!

I have one of those with 4in barrel and I like it very much, if you see an magazine at a reasonable price snap it up, they are pricy!

Where again did you buy the firing pin? I just purchased a Star F.
Numrich gun parts
@ Thanks, I’ll go there if needed. Just bought replacement grip screws there as the ones on my gun were badly buggered.
Is it possible då adjust the trigger pressure? How low can you set it?
