    These are cells of 26Ah. It is right on the cell: "SK Innovation P260" pouch cells. This means: cells for Power (Hi-Power Cells). So, for charging and discharging with high C-rate (about 5C to the 45 kW motor in the PHEV). In contrast, Hi-Energy cells for BEVs would have an "E" there.
    And then: "260" is 26 Ah nominal capacity for each cell. Capacity of each cell: about 26 Ah * 3.75V = 97.5 Wh.
    Then, 1 module is a 4s1p module, 15V nominal, with 390 Wh.
    Then 6 of those modules: 24s1p, 90 V nominal nominal, 2.34 kWh. This is one of those blocks, where the 6 modules are clamped together.
    And then: He has 2 of those blocks in the case: that is about 48s 1p, 180V, 4.45 kWh, on his bench. This is *half* the total pack of a Niro PHEV or Ioniq PHEV.
    The total pack of a Kia Niro PHEV MY2018-2022 or Hyundai Ioiniq PHEV has another 2 of those blocks for a total: 96s1p, 360V nominal, 8.9 kWh.

      Thanks for that, I will use some more of these cells in an electric motorbike project.

    Hi Shaun. Great video. I've a 2021 Ioniq Phev and I'm the kind who likes to be prepared. I've no Idea where I can get a new/used battery here in Denmark, but your video gave me an idea of some of the pitfalls. It was also great to be able to understand every word, and not be skunnerd by some weird accent. (I was born and dragged up in Inverkeithing) I'll be following and recommending your efforts.

    Hello. Could you please tell me what is the black switch/plug (with yellow cable and blue colour inside) for? It can be found at 10:59 in video. Thanks in advance.

    excellent vid, i'm wondering is there any way to test voltage externally

    • @ShaunDobbie

      Not without opening up the battery and putting a jumper across where the hv disconnect is.

      The pack shown in the video is one half of the 8.9 kWh battery fom Kia Niro PHEV starting Model Year 2018. So it is about 4.45 kWh, when new. To get a complete pack of a such a Kia Niro PHEV battery, you need another one of these packs. (1 pack is below rear seats, 1 pack is in trunk, they are in series).

    according to Hyundai the battery should have 4CELL × 24MODULE (Total 96CELL) that doesn't seem to resemble your battery, confused!

    • @ShaunDobbie
      @ShaunDobbie  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was confused too by what I had read. I found each module had 4 cells.

    • @andym5265
      @andym5265 ปีที่แล้ว

      the other strange thing is that the total voltage of the battery should be 360V yours appears to be around 180V is that correct

    • @andym5265
      @andym5265 ปีที่แล้ว

      is it possible they have put 2 cells in series in 1 package, in reality making 8 cells per module, what was the voltage across the module

    • @andym5265
      @andym5265 ปีที่แล้ว

      reason i ask this is, your battery currently works out at 14.98AH x 180V = 2.7KW, but it should be 8.98KW

    • @ShaunDobbie
      @ShaunDobbie  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andym5265 there is actually another battery that goes in series with this one. Each module is 4 20ah cells in series, so will be 16.4v fully charged.
