My only suggestion would be to use glue on one side of the joints, so that you can still take it apart but not worry about missing pieces such as an elbow or tee fitting. I made one similar to this to use on my deck, using tee fittings on the bottom with extended 'feet'...but I made the mistake of using 3/4" PVC and that was way too flexible. Do not try to go too cheap, lol. The larger the screen - the larger you want the PVC to be.

Thank you so much for this! I struggled last year to set mine up. Love this.

You did a good job 👏🏼 I’m disappointed that you didn’t show the end result with everything hooked up and running the display.

Thanks for the tutorial. I have the same screen material and have been experimenting with a few different frames over the years. Wood, and faux scary tree props the last 2 years, but I’ve always wondered about pvc. Your looks great and very similar to what I was considering building this year. How does it look in a yard scene? I’m thinking of going a bit smaller then winding the screen material around the pipes so that it tight on all sides with no gaps. I’ve always had the issue of light pollution in my yard due to street lighting so blending in as best as possible is always a challenge for me. Thanks again! Great work

Jason P Light pollution is a serious concern. The bottom line is this works awesome if there is none but if your yard has a street light or there is a full moon it’s pretty hard to pull this illusion off no matter how you set the screen. Ultimately it still looks good but the difference between it looking good vs looking real does depend on a lack of any light pollution.

@@IceHausDogTraining People, let me be the one to let the cat out of the bag. IF your neighbors are cool, street lights are a non-issue. Streetlights have a plate about a foot off the ground with a pentagonal looking bolt head. Pretty sure I use a 21 mm socket head and you just open the cap plate (it's attached to the inside of the streetlight by a chain, usually).
I always wear rubber gloves - I've gotten a bit of a shock before - but when you look inside the light pole, you will see wiring. Tug on one of them and it will come out of the hole and you will see, in the middle of the line, a fuse holder. Just untwist the fuse holder, dump the fuse on the ground (risk of shock comes from grabbing at the fuse), close it back up and it's LIGHTS OUT!
I turn off FIVE streetlights every year. THe last couple years, I've turned them off for 4 or 5 days in a row. But it's a cinch, and takes about 7 minutes, to run around with a headlamp at the end of the night and turn them all back on.
THe first time i did it on my new block, the crabby ass old fucker next door called the power company. So, 2 nights before halloween, I noticed yellow flashing lights outside. I ran out and chatted up the workers, told them what was up and they were totally cool. THey said they'd just tell the office to notify the caller that the lights would be fixed in 3 days.
If you're THAT PERSON on your block doing Halloween so badassedly, your neighbors already love you. They will likely have no problem with what you're up to.
If you KNOW you're neighbors are assholes, find my other post about how to open their gas meter....

I was wondering. What stakes did you use? Because a t-post will not fit in an 1” pipe.

Kerstin Hamilton I used rebar for stakes that was pounded into the ground with a hammer. The screen will just slip right over. Remember to get long enough pieces so you can get about a foot or two into the ground and still have two or more feet sticking out of the ground. The longer the rebar the more stability but the screen is light so unless it’s windy you should be fine using 4 ft lengths. Good luck!

AtmosFX Hollusion Projection Material, Grey, 5.5 x 9 ft, I paid $50 for it but it costs more from the current sellers. Wait and keep checking because you can get it for 50. Also I’ll be making a video with a different option before next Halloween
