    Can you imagine teachers carrying guns to class in a public school. Teachers are humans too they might suffer a mental breakdown in class

      Not just that, as some of the school-shooting students have pointed out in interviews, it would mean that guns are more accessible in schools via the teacher lockers/bags etc.
      Of course the response was they would require gun-locks, trigger access and various other mechanisms to prevent a student grabbing a teacher's gun, but like a glock safety it would defeat most of the point in having teachers have guns in the first place.

      I am astounded that he can just be so nonchalant about the idea of accidentally shooting somebody. Good people can have a rough time dealing with killing people even when it’s justified. To be in a situation where kids are killed in front of me would be bad enough, but to know that I killed one of them myself would be horrifying.

    • @maizeman90
      @maizeman90 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      He'd also reconsider if he is the one that ends up shooting and killing an innocent child in a situation like this. He would be reviled for that by the community and would probably end up burdened with guilt that he'd have to live with until he died.

      Are these the same teachers that are molesting our children? Now let's give them guns. And what if the teacher snaps? We outlawed teachers hitting kids with rulers, but they can shoot, with accuracy a gunman with an AR-15.

    • @felixvelariusbos
      @felixvelariusbos 6 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      I'm going to be honest: this is for me the largest hole in the plan. Let's forget the argument about whether or not it's a good idea to arm folks in a school to protect from future shooting. Let's just assume for sake of argument it is.
      Teachers are NOT the ones who should get the gun for the simple fact that they are already trying to keep track of all their students, teach the class, grade papers, come up with lesson plans, actually LIVE a life (you know, because they are people with families). Where in the world are they going to get time to get fire arm training? *How can they be giving their class their full attention (already difficult as hell!) AND keeping on high alert for any potential shooters?* Hell, most teachers already feel overworked and tired as hell. A person who is running on 4 cups of coffee and nothing else is NOT the kind of person I want holding a gun around kids, no matter the kind of person they are normally.
      Teachers are awesome, but they are still, ultimately, human. They CANNOT do everything. If the answer is truly "more good guys with guns" (I am NOT here to argue yay or nay on that), then have more policemen in the schools. Designate some other school staff to have the gun in case of emergencies. But don't expect this of teachers.

      Ryu Cartel - Simply ban all military guns and the clips and bullets for those guns. Pretty simple. You don't have to collect the guns. They'll be useless without the clips and bullets. Some may be able to make their own bullets, etc. But that still makes it very difficult for some young kid to go buy an assault weapon if they are no longer for sale. And the folks that do still have those weapons are probably saving up their bullets and hiding everything away for the day when they need to do battle with the evil government - good luck with that!

    • @slactweak

      You are very knowledgable and logical. You need to go to Parkland and explain all that you wrote here, to the parents and family members of the 14 kids and 3 adults that were killed. I'm CERTAIN they will see reason in your logic and agree with you. Hell, you might even be able to sell them all guns.
      A word of advice, though. If you DO decide to try to explain your logical and perfectly sensible take on the instruments that caused the deaths of their loved ones, (and the perfectly logical reasons for NOT doing anything to strengthen the toothless "laws" that DIDN'T protect them), you might want to take your OWN gun with you, cause I get the feeling you will need to add to the gun violence death toll in in this country if you DO try to convince them that their kids died to protect YOUR rights.
      Otherwise, your right wing/NRA talking points mean ZERO and have just as much merit, as meaning.

      They are NRA and Right wing Talking points.
      Period.
      You people are pathetic losers who have nothing going for you, and the NRA/Right Wing's hand up your ass. Crawl back down your Rabbit hole, stroke your gun until it discharges, and fantasize about mowing down hordes of "cartel members" and "terrorists" at the Southern border.

    Teachers shouldn’t have guns on them. It’s so wrong to expect teachers to also be bodyguards and risk their lives for our kids. That is not what they signed up for when they became teachers. They’re teachers. How dare Trump suggest this as a solution and then say those who carry guns get a bonus? They’re so underpaid and use so much of their own money and time outside of the class to teach our children, but somehow we’ll get the money to equipped them and they’ll finally be rewarded. Man, get the fuck out with that. Teachers are so often under appreciated and under estimated in all the hard work they put in and everything they have to deal with for our kids. They should be able to do their jobs without worrying about risking their lives to save our kids from a shooter.

    • @cageysign2336

      Idiotic, you say that teachers are not worried about risking their lives for their students? Why did Aron Feis the assistant football coach doing when he threw himself in front of kids, sacrificing himself for their lives. I don't think all teachers should have guns, but id rather not have teachers being bullet sponges for their students.

      I humbly apologize for the name, i meant it toward the words not you specifically. The whole discussion gets me heated so please understand. But what I was trying to get across was that I believe that at least a few teachers should have guns. That way there is at least a chance of the shooter being taken out. The act Feis made to save his students is one not many would take and I found that powerful. I just hope next time more good men don't have to make that sacrifice.

    • @carolinamurtha3102
      @carolinamurtha3102 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cagey Sign got it, and thank you for the apology. I got worried that maybe I didn’t make my point clear and oh no, all these people are liking it for the wrong reason. I would prefer no guns on teachers, but I get what you’re saying and it is such a heated topic now. I made a similar comment on another video and it became that comment where it exploded and I gave up even trying to respond to anyone. My best friend is a teacher and in general I have a lot of respect for what they do and one thing I don’t expect is for them to put their lives on the line. My kid has dyslexia and the most I expect from teachers is to please help her a little extra get the reading down.

    Coming from a non-American the fear that your government, the people that you chose and who are held in control by your Constitution that you so deeply believe in will someday turn against you, thus you have to keep your armed weaponry is totally ill conceived. Even if the US government turns against its people which has an extremely low probability of happening due to all these checks and balances, everyday citizens stand zero chance against the millitary. So keeping and supporting military grade weapons is totally irresponsible and idiotic.

      Mohit Garg The Black Panthers tried to challenge a tyrannical government with arms, they met the very definition of the Second Amendment and they were disarmed anyway. To think that US government which has demonstrated massive domestic and geopolitical tyranny is not something that the Citizens of the US should be wary of is absurd but equally absurd is the idea that a corrupt and tyrannical government would ever let its enemies use it’s constitution against it. As it stands it’s the right wing radicals who are at their core active supporters of the state and capital and proponents of tyranny who benefit from the Second Amendment and not people victimised by the United States government. Indeed the Second Amendment ultimately exists to serve the interests of the state and not the interests of the people.

      "everyday citizens stand zero chance against the millitary." That's is why the War in Vietnam and the War in Afghanistan were total successes right? An armed populace is not something to underestimate. Air craft carriers and drones cannot enforce martial law. You need people on street corners. There is a reason why the first thing every fascist dictator in modern history did was disarm the civilian population. America would be a very difficult place to "occupy" and the reason is because we have the Second Amendment. I agree that the probability of a fascist taking control is remote due to the system of checks and balances that you mentioned, however to discount to the purpose of the Second Amendment is rash.

    Why it’s not about Second Amendment rights, but money:
    Handguns cost an average of between $500 and $800 each. If anyone seriously thought that “the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun”, then one handgun should not be the price of _two Nintendo Switches._

      The problem with the good guys with guns vs bad guys with guns argument is that either way somebody ends up dead. And too often it gets blurry. Taking an example recently bad guy goes into store tries to run out with some product. Wannabe hero customer, good guy with a gun tells him to stop. Bad guy doesn’t and gets shot. So yeah the first person is a bad guy, but the second person just killed someone (well he didn’t die but he could have). Who’s really the bad guy. Not saying that people don’t have the right to defend themselves or their property, but when tensions are high we are not our best when it comes to judgment and having a gun makes it more likely you’ll use it in hard situations rather than attempting something else. I will take the switch. It’s a lot less stressful.

I'm not saying in the event of that to just toss you guns aside and lay back and take it, but even your most hardcore gun collectors have to admit something to themselves; if the government had a list of people dangerous to their regime and they were taking out everybody on the list and you were next in line, what gun you managed to get your hands on isn't going to matter. Forget an AR-15, get an M60 and take it into a fight with a tank, or even more likely missile equipped drones you never even see. Don't kid yourself.

If a student gets shot by a bad guy or accidentally by a teacher, that would be 100% his fault. Especially after this interview. Schools are already finding problems with guns being sold to children outside and inside schools. You would probably be surprised by how many of those students bought guns off teachers. I would feel more comfortable if there were metal detectors at every door rather than a teacher who could possibly shoot a child.

      JG 1212 that’s the part of the gun control debate that the US isn’t having. You need a De-escalation of force on all sides and all sectors. The US police forces now have military equipment which is a threat. Our police in New Zealand can access guns but police don’t walk around with guns. Citizens can’t carry guns around but they can access them. That’s balanced. That being said the police have a monopoly on defence here and that’s an issue.

      Don't say BAN guns (baby steps please). NO ONE is asking the USA to BAN AND GET RID of them. What the Democrats are asking for is simple:
      - make it harder (not ban) for mentally ill people to buy guns
      - make it harder (not ban) for people on terrorist watch or no-fly lists to buy
      - make it harder (not ban) for people with a previous criminal history to buy
      Whenever you say "ban", they will try to throw the 2nd amendment in your face and veer you off track by shouting "MAGA MAGA" etc. Even the above (which 85-90% of ALL polled Americans approve on - even Republicans) is cock-blocked by the NRA.

And this was in a pretty decent school system. Hell, one thing the video doesn't mention is the fact that classrooms are not safes. Who's to say the firearm wouldn't just be stolen if poorly kept away? Again, these are just people. Teachers. It's not their area of expertise. Again, they're just people and I'm sure there are heroes but the majority? This will likely cause more problems than solutions.

      @parkerjones6598 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Prevention MIGHT be a good action, obviously we can’t be certain. However, I’d like to think that letting teachers take things into their own hands is a terrible idea. It’s one thing to have officers on duty at schools, but it’s a far different thing to have teachers take on the role of the hero in this situation. Do we honestly expect teachers to carry a gun on campus everyday, all the time? What about teachers that refuse to carry/can’t carry? I don’t expect the teacher with a gun to just “trade off” their gun to a non-carrier when they have to go to the bathroom or leave school. We definitely need improvement, but I don’t think giving teachers guns is going to be the most effective solution that we come up with.

      I don’t know how I would live with myself if I accidentally killed a kid. That being said, I also can understand how you may not be able to live with yourself if you were in a situation to stop a shooter and didn’t. I imagine this is the predicament cops face sometimes. Problem is teachers shouldn’t be placed in that position in the first place. They signed up to teachers, not cops or soldiers. Schools shouldn’t be war zones. Not when there are so many many other options that don’t involve putting more guns in schools.

    • @kilroy987
      @kilroy987 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People can debate about all the possible ways to stop a problem. Arming teachers, banning guns... for my part I'd like to see what these shooters do privately before they decide to take a gun somewhere public. I think they spend a lot of time in their heads, doing private things that foster private thoughts, and they aren't thinking about public health. And yet people demand the freedom to have their private space and do their private things. Well, I think their private activities can be pervaded by more messages and demonstrations of human socialization and caring about public health, so that these people with these off ideas feel even more off about it instead of being given a chance to normalize or necessitate it. But that requires a change in how information is presented on the internet, and ALL entertainment forms. But now that school shootings are just becoming a thing, you can bet there are already a lot of people out there already thinking they can make a point by doing the same thing.

      I think a check up every six months would be too costly. Who would pay for that? Remember, some gun owners own their rifles as a source of food. Defeats the purpose to put an added cost on them. But you're definitely thinking the right way. It's not about banning all guns, just being responsible with the ones that are able to be sold legally, none of that AR nonsense unless you're cleared some major hurdles (if at all). Need more of that in government, reasonable thinking.

I keep seeing the Conservatives ignoring the easy solution, just cuz they are so stubborn about what they believe is right.

      mario Q. Yeah you're right! These dumbass kids don't know what they're talking about. I for one enjoy seeing a gun pointed at my head!
      Are you serious? If its harder for stupid people to get guns in the first place, then there would be no shooting at all. Arm teachers, create stricter security and then search the kids to see if they have a weapon, wow yeah we should turn school into more of a prison then it already is!
      Let's say teachers do have a gun, do you think they can save the lives of 25-30 of their students before any of them gets shot? What if the teacher is shot? Then what?
      And after seeing you teacher shoot someone down, would you feel like you can relate to the teacher? I don't know, I wouldn't look at my teachers or school the same way again.

    Why aren't flags being raised about peoples gun purchasing habits? YES ITS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE TRACKED.
    Giving teachers guns isn't the solution. Infact,Giving teachers guns could lead to much more uncomfortable sittuations. Teachers are already fighting for respect in the classroom. Giving guns could give escalate classroom issues as well. Its the lazy way out of this issue and its only going to creat more problems.

    • @bn8706
      @bn8706 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      C00kii0 It is that complicated because people like you who don't know what they are talking about keep talking, if you would let the informed and logical thinking people do the talking it would be solved so stop being the problem.

    • @bn8706
      @bn8706 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      aguy654....Again, your not helping the situation. You would see effective change if people like you would just not say ridiculous stuff. You can doubt my level of how informed I am or not all you want, but you and people like you are far from it. For example, citizens don't have military grade weapons. I am a veteran so I very much so understand the difference. Every time people like you say such ridiculous stuff you alienate the people that are trying to come to the table to find meaningful solutions. Your never going to ban semi autos or anything close to it across the country so stop talking about it because that actually just makes people want to go out and buy one. Start talking about pharma drugs and the effects they have on developing minds, or trained security guards in certain public institutions, or firearm training and safety, or passing a bill to help people get cheap and anonymous access to mental health care, and things of that nature and use facts not emotions. Your not going to convince people to give up their freedoms and rights to protect their loved one because of some people somewhere else in the country experienced a tragedy. People will always side with their loved one first and foremost.

    • @bn8706
      @bn8706 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      aguy654...And you keep talking and keep alienating. See people like me are the people you want to come to the table and we do want to, but not when you call me a fool or a fake veteran or saying we have temper tantrums etc. See, that stuff does not help and again as I already stated it does not matter how informed or uninformed you think I am what matters is that I and many people like me currently have common ground ideas if the gun control people like you could change your tune a little bit and actually talk in a way that shows you understand firearms and the culture behind it. Its really that simple. What evidence do you need exactly? What is your solution to the problem?

    • @bn8706
      @bn8706 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      aguy654....Sensitive snowflake? Sure I guess I am good with that. Ok, well lets just say that I am not the one on the side of the fence that is trying to make changes or rather restrictions to something that is already in place. Meaning, I don't need to change my tune even though many people like me already have because we are fine with it the way it is, do you understand that? And so I should take responsibility for Charlottesville?, lol, really? That is probably about the highest level of alienation you could bestow upon someone thus proving my point thus showing that once again you don't actually understand the situation and how to manage it. I don't care about Trump. I don't even see how Trump is relevant to what I am saying, I don't even agree with Trump on a lot of stuff. Trump can alienate people all he wants. What I am saying to you and people like you that if you want change then you need to accept what is in a logical sense not pretend it is something that it is not. What it is and will not change is banning of firearms so for your sake stop talking about it and especially stop talking about it with untrue facts and with a low level understanding of them.

    • @bn8706
      @bn8706 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I might be alone here, and I'm ok with that, but there are real dangers in mass-banning weapons like all semi-automatic rifles, and to be entirely honest, it feels like these gun bans are being focused on almost as a show of security, rather than actually facing the more difficult and complex issue: that kids want to hurt and kill not only themselves, but massive groups of their peers. Mental health isn't treated with the severity it has clearly demonstrated that it requires, as these events have become heartbreakingly commonplace, and many people find it nearly impossible to admit when they need help because of the stigma surrounding that issue.
    As for the issue of arming teachers, no, not every teacher needs or would even want a weapon. Yes, the teachers would have to be tested, background checked, and monitored to ensure that they treated a firearm with respect, kept it safely out of the eyes and hands of any others, would never use it in any case other than a shooting, and God forbid if they ever have to, use it properly and effectively.
    Lastly, yes, the principal's words at the end were cold and even jarring. And as I said earlier, I never want the first shot to be fired on school grounds. But even if it was illegal to own any firearm at all, someone could still go to a public school with a weapon. And in that situation, you are offered the trolley problem. Do you do nothing, and see tens more innocent lives forever lost or scarred, or do you intervene, possibly losing lives to your own hand, but preventing deaths that would have happened otherwise? It's terrible, I know, and again, no one should have to make that decision. And the training would minimize the chances some kind of accident happening, but in the end, it is saving children's lives.

    • @silverybound
      @silverybound 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't know why you think that it's a show of security. Restricting the distribution of firearms would reduce the occurrence of such incidents.
      Of course that doesn't prevent stupid parents from improperly storing their firearm and letting their children using it on themselves or their friends.

      It seems like a show of security because from what I've seen, people have only talked about banning AR's. If that comes to fruition, then the broken kids who are so mentally unhealthy as to commit a mass shooting today, would use a pistol instead of a rifle, and we still lose lives. If pistols are banned, the students are still broken, and they bring a knife to school. Taking away firearms doesn't solve school violence, and it may not even solve firearm violence. That's why I think it feels like a show of security.

      Banning firearms reduces the rate of violent crimes with a firearm, sure. But it doesn't reduce the rate of violent crimes. No, I'm not worried that the government would instantly become tyrannical if I had to surrender the only reasonable self-defense tools available to a citizen. However, I would certainly be somewhat concerned about the slight possibility. More importantly, however, I would be extremely worried about my lacking ability to defend myself, especially in my own home. And as for moving to a new country, I was born an American, and for the most part, I'm proud to be an American. I don't want to leave this country for its issues; I want to try and make the country better with the best solutions I can provide.

      Fair, yes, a firearm can cause far more casualties in most situations than other weapons. I would like to mention that the shooter in Vegas used a bump stock to simulate automatic fire on a semi-automatic weapon, and I personally fully support a ban on automatic weapons and similar attachments or tools that simulate automatic weapons.
      I can't speak for anyone else, especially not those in power who you mentioned who focused the issue away from the weapons and shootings. I'd agree that many are corrupt and do not have the country or its peoples' interests at heart. But I'm not trying to defend them or speak on their behalf.
      As for America specifically, no, we clearly are not the only nation dealing with mental illness. I do believe, however, that how we handle mental health and care creates a stigma that makes help harder to ask for, and that may create an environment which causes these tragedies to become more common. And from what I've seen, America may be the only country dealing gun violence on such a broad spectrum, but it is not the only country dealing with violence and violent crime by any means.
      (A side note that I do recognize there are some modern, democratic countries who have successfully and drastically limited the public's access to firearms, and it may have lead to a decline in violence, or if not individual crimes, casualties. However, I do believe that Americans may be a different kind of people. While, yes, Prohibition was nearly a century ago now, the events that transpired when those laws passed may very well repeat themselves. If a ban on semi-automatic firearms or all firearms were to pass, there would likely still be a demand for those weapons, and a black market almost certainly would meet that demand. I understand that may sound a bit tin-foil-hatty, but it has certainly proven to be possible in the past.)

      Yeah, it could happen. There is a real possibility but there's two factors that suggest that it could all work out well. One is that most of the developed world already has strict gun restrictions and it works for them as you've mentioned. Second is that guns and drugs/alcohol aren't the same kind of goods. You can't have a gun addiction in the way you can have alcohol or drug addiction. With the latter, it is used almost exclusively to drown out sorrows and there is the tolerance factor. If you can't buy a gun, you might rage on an intellectual and emotional level and crave it. But if you don't get that alcohol or drug, your body will DEMAND that you get it at all cost if you're addicted to it.

    You can tell who came up with the idea to sell more guns...not body armor, bulletproof classroom doors, riot shields, or any other defensive equipment.

      You can't be serious. How can you trust the cops after something like this he should've been in jail due to the many times they visited him then the FBI screwed up by allowing him to slip through the cracks after the threats he made. The teachers shouldn't have guns but the school does need more security.

      Lobster Man221 how can they put someone, who hasn't committed a crime, in jail? You're so dumb. Almost as dumb as those who expect teachers to teach and and have swat training.

    Shooting a "mock gunman" is one thing but asking a teacher to gun down a child no mater what the circumstance is just bonkers. It's not going to happen.

    I love the way the principal entered the doorway with his gun sticking out first with zero idea of where the “bad guys” were. Firstly, bullets go through walls. So he needlessly exposes himself. Second he comes into the room with his gun extended. Anybody looking toward the door would have shot him.

    I can just imagine if every single teacher in America had a gun and a student was misbehaving or acting out and he or she pulled out a gun and shot them. They would say those magic words “I feared for my life!” That teacher would walk away scott free while parents would be burying their children with no recourse and that last clip proves my point.

    You know, there WERE a “good guy with a gun” around the building. The armed guard. He failed to do anything. And that is what most people would do. Worst case scenario is that they would be so jumpy that they’ll start to shoot at anybody as the killer is not waving a sign saying “I’m the bad guy”. This pretty much shots down the whole “good guy with a gun”-argument

    I brought this topic up to some of my teachers and most them were terrified of the idea of them having guns on campus. The thought of them having guns in school is horrible because many things can happen things such as them misplacing it, them getting angry and lashing out, or even students getting ahold of them. I don’t understand how this will play out, will teachers be training on how to use it properly or just have a license to carry. People think it’s as simple as giving them a gun and teachers will be ready for a situation like this. In reality they won’t no matter how “prepared” they are or training they have. In situations like these most people don’t think of fighting back but fear for there lives. I don’t understand how people want to solve gun violence with more guns but there’s America for you.
