Even though I’ve been going to GI since I was 3yo (Crohn’s, ulcers, etc) and have had many bowel resections & had an illeostemy bag for over a year, most of these I did know/have experienced, but even I learned things here I didn’t know. You explained the answers so well, making it easier to understand!
I love when they get people with uncommon medical professions (remembering the mortician.) They always seem to have a great (but slightly off) sense of humor yet seem like nice people. Please do a gynecologist next. I’ve got a few questions.
This Dr should train ALL new GIs. I had a horrible GI in a huge medical hub. He was physically annoyed every time I reported pain. Answer for everything - you have IBS. After about 2 months, I ended up in the ER with gall stones . Bedside matter does matter.
As someone with Ulcerative Colitis, I'm glad to see gastrointestinal issues being put on the spotlight. As well as a specialist educating people on this. Taking care of yourself before it becomes chronic is key!

My father in the end of his life was going through Chemo and went through C. Dificil five times before he got a fecal transplant and it fixed him right up. Thank God for that procedure because C. Dificil is horrible and ravaging.

For the question on Bloating: Ladies if diet modification and exercise is not helping, talk to your OB/GYN as bloating, alongside other symptoms, can be an early sign of Ovarian Cancer. If you're not just bloating at your period, there could be an issue. If you're not familiar with Ovarian and Cervical cancer signs and symptoms, take some time to research and read articles. Take care.

Snoring can happen acutely when you have a sinus infection or a throat infection when there’s inflammation and swelling in the airway. Chronic snoring can be a symptom of sleep apnea as well. About 8 out of 10 people with sleep apnea have symptoms of snoring. Your airway is narrow and the air rushing by causes vibrations similar to a flag whipping in the wind. Snoring is thought to inverse risk for strokes. Also if snoring is a symptom of sleep apnea then there is an even higher risk of stroke and other problems like atrial fibrillation. If you have poor sleep you should get a sleep study! Dreaming is normal. It’s part of the brain’s routine mechanism to consolidate memories and clear out unnecessary information.

My husband has sleep apnoea, last sleep study showed 60 events per hour. His CPAP machine changed our life and made us all much happier! I once got a decibel app and he got up to 88 decibels! Much more peaceful in our house now! Thanks for doing what you do and helping make lots of peaceful nights of sleep.
I wish my doctor was at least half as personable and knowledgeable as Dr. Iroku. His easy-going and fun personality would make the medicine go down easier.

It varies greatly between individuals, and also varies greatly with the same individuals. Different foods, hydration levels, health, physical activity, stress levels, sleep, etc etc - can all affect your digestion transit times! TMI ALERT! On my end... I'm more of a... 20-50H digestion cycle myself ahahaha

Food poisoning is a broad range of issues. They can be bacterial, chemical or physical. Depending upon how much of any of those are you can see the impact sooner or later.
Just had my first colonoscopy about 2 weeks ago. Both my parents have IBD, and this video was a nice lighthearted way to talk about these tricky questions!

I struggled with constipation a lot as a child; it's important to note that dairy is given to children almost daily in schools and that consuming dairy daily is not always a good thing. Consider if you've had milk or if your child is given milk and then adjust their food accordingly. Don't also give them yogurt and cheese sticks, substitute that with more fibrous food.
Reading all the fine print about colonoscopy, paperwork said that only a small percentage of cancer is detected through routine screening. And that 'perforations due to instrumentation' were not uncommon. Are the docs in this practice just bad at what they do?! Because as a low risk, symptom free person, this sounds like a non-starter!
1:00 For me, it actually takes as little as 6 hours for food to pass through my digestive tract. This is common in my family actually. We’ve all noticed that if we have corn for lunch, it’s out after dinner.
I have fatty liver disease and I have had a few ash white bowel movements. It has usually been after a few days of bad eating, especially around the holidays. I haven't had one in a while. I'm really trying to eat better.
the people that i know that have IBS are really anxious about finding clean washrooms etc in public places so whenever i am with them i simply keep talking and keep their minds off it...works like a charm... the more they think about it the higher the chance of the IBS kicking in
Have had that before! (Turns out I had celiac AND had become suddenly lactose intolerant!) My GI doctor had a good sense of humor about it, which helped
The food poisoning answer is very misleading… working in a restaurant I am upset he answered this way. There are so many foodborne Illnesses, and the vast majority of the normal ones have a much longer onset time than “almost immediately.”

I was lactose intollerant when i was a kid but as an adult i have no issues anymore.
I thought food poisoning starts about 12-48hrs after ingestion. I didn't know it could happen in as little as an hour.
That's right! It really depends on the toxin. People can get sick within minutes, especially with bad sea food!
Food poisoning is a broad range of issues. They can be bacterial, chemical or physical. Depending upon how much of any of those are you can see the impact sooner or later.
Just had my first colonoscopy about 2 weeks ago. Both my parents have IBD, and this video was a nice lighthearted way to talk about these tricky questions!

I struggled with constipation a lot as a child; it's important to note that dairy is given to children almost daily in schools and that consuming dairy daily is not always a good thing.
Consider if you've had milk or if your child is given milk and then adjust their food accordingly. Don't also give them yogurt and cheese sticks, substitute that with more fibrous food.

Reading all the fine print about colonoscopy, paperwork said that only a small percentage of cancer is detected through routine screening. And that 'perforations due to instrumentation' were not uncommon. Are the docs in this practice just bad at what they do?! Because as a low risk, symptom free person, this sounds like a non-starter!

1:00 For me, it actually takes as little as 6 hours for food to pass through my digestive tract. This is common in my family actually. We’ve all noticed that if we have corn for lunch, it’s out after dinner.
I once had an ash white bowel movement. No bile what so ever. Freaked me out!
I have fatty liver disease and I have had a few ash white bowel movements. It has usually been after a few days of bad eating, especially around the holidays.
I haven't had one in a while. I'm really trying to eat better.

the people that i know that have IBS are really anxious about finding clean washrooms etc in public places so whenever i am with them i simply keep talking and keep their minds off it...works like a charm... the more they think about it the higher the chance of the IBS kicking in

Have had that before! (Turns out I had celiac AND had become suddenly lactose intolerant!) My GI doctor had a good sense of humor about it, which helped
The food poisoning answer is very misleading… working in a restaurant I am upset he answered this way. There are so many foodborne Illnesses, and the vast majority of the normal ones have a much longer onset time than “almost immediately.”
For anyone wondering, the immune tissue in the GI tract is called GALT (Gut-Associated Lymphoid Tissue).
