Be worthwhile to make some wire frame animal guards to fit over those, prevent anything large enough to get stuck from getting the genius idea to treat it like a burrow and go down.

The owl is most likely looking for a hollow tree trunk for nesting. If there are none around the down spout will have to suffice. So you need to provide them a couple of suitable hollow pieces of tree trunks tied next to a real tree trunk, high enough. It needs to have a bottom for a floor and some kind of roof too, entrance close to the roof. In return the owls will keep you rodent free.
Petherick wildlife rescue swings into action again. Mick - please knock up a little owl nesting box, so he doesn't have to keep making you all shove your hands into the pipework! Hooty McHootface needs a home. Great amount of progress everyone. 😃
The owl is too cute, is there any way you can fit a mesh over the hole at the top so at least the rain comes through but the owl will not continue to find its way in?
@thepethericks Even just a spare scrap of chickenwire you can weigh down until you find a more long-term solution would work, just so long as it’s small enough the owl won’t fit through. Having to put screens over gutters and chimneys to keep birds out is pretty common where I’m from, they do love to get in everywhere.

Hiya Billy, It is likely the little owl has lost a few flight feathers and or strained a wing and cannot achieve enough height to return to it’s nest. Should you happen across it again, perhaps release it into the back garden. That way it can feed, be near enough to it’s mama and recover in it’s own time. Best Regards 🌿

Billy, You should secure a piece of screening over those openings that are attracting the owlet. I think he sees age openings as a potential nesting site or a hidey hole from predators. You three are working so quickly! Nice to see your dad so involved too with owl rescue and carpentry!

It's super exciting seeing the gallery come together. I love the idea change you have for the ceilings. I think that will look so beautiful and fitting to the "humble" convent.
If the owl gets stuck again call your local wildlife groups to find out what to do. Some have recuse groups. Here in the USA a youtuber found in injured owl and a local group took it for healing and rehab and then it had to be released where the youtuber found it back

A way to use all those off cuts, would be to smooth the edges, paint them different colours, make some into triangles and pyramid (for roof) shapes, and give them to the boys as something different to play with. Just a thought. :)

Put a gutter plug at the roof - it will stop the owl creeping in. These wire plugs you normally take to prevent leaves to fall into the down spout.
