Shane is the best western ever made.The only weakness is Alan Ladd, playing a clean cut, all American, don't forget to clean your teeth kids, type character.Had he played Shane as an anti hero gunslinger, the movie would have been perfect.
Great film, but the best ever Western is One Eyed Jacks with Brando and Karl Malden.
Woody Allen said that Shane was up there not just in the Western genre, but could hold it's own against any film ever made.

This means that BRANDON DE WILDE was actually nine years old when he made the film, not eleven. The ages you give for the other performers when they made the film are also out of date by two years.
I saw "then" photos, but I didn't see any "now" photos, as they are all dead. What's the point of the title?

Practically speaking, there is no “now” for a single one of these actors.
You state that Ben Johnson worked for Starett. Not true. He worked for the bad guys, until one evening, plauged by remorse about the way the ranchers are being treated, he left & came to Shane to warn him not to let Starett go into town to negotiate with the bad guys because it was a trap, & then he departed for points far away.

Jack Pallance was great as the bad guy "Wilson" in Shane . Wilson was the kind of guy you just love to hate .
A lot of those great actors died at a very yount age including Allan ladd and Brandan de wilde

Shane is the best western for me and one of the best of all movies. I appreciate this but Marion Starrett was married to Joe Starrett and therefor was not a widow or single mother. Ben Johnson was the real deal. He started out as a cowboy and played those characters very well. One year he won the team roping in the PRCA. I always liked him in movies. All the actors have passed away but we can still see this outstanding movie. Technology is wonderful!

Há, como eu gostaria de assistir novamente esse filme, completo, dublado em português, é um dos meus sonhos. Eu cresci vendo Shane, Os Brutos Também Amam, e desde então eu nunca deixei de amar essa Maravilha da Sétima Arte. Quando eu vi Shane, pela primeira vez no cinema, sentado na sela de um cavalo, olhando para o menino, desde então ele se tornou meu herói.
