Couple thoughts- First Brian Lamb is such an excellent interviewer. Amazing the way he interjects to press his guest to color within the lines, yet he NEVER makes himself the focus of the interview- we learn lots about Walter Kirn- nothing about Brian Lamb. Kudos. I watch and/or listen to Walter every week with Matt Taibbi on America This Week. Great conversation between those two. Walter has some gems, in one episode he fulminated about all the legal actions against Donald Trump. His take on how fatuous some of the cases/ charges are and how ridiculous nearly all of the media coverage is was enlightening. When he's wrong, like the time he went on a diatribe about how unfair the "weird" charge against J.D. Vance is, he is completely misguided. However, right or wrong, he's interesting and always has his unique take on everything.
Mr. Kirn has led a truly amazing life; This guy was a scholar in England when I was in the a lowly private in the US Army, stationed near Venice, Italy - 1983 thru 1985; I'm not sure I would have changed places - since, I loved Venice, for one thing, and met some of the best leaders of my life, i.e., "true leaders of men", and these true "leaders" have apparently lived their entire lives in total anonymity, now . "Up in the Air" is one of my more favorite recent movies.
'Up In The Air' 38:09 Interesting to hear the birth of this great novel, and now a great movie. (Congratulations to Sheldon Turner and Jason Reitman on winning the BAFTA on Sunday for Best Adapted Screenplay. Good luck at the Oscars. Deserves to win. Superb adaptation.) I hope Walter Kirn now moves to the A-List of American novelists, to be in the company of Roth, DeLillo, and Robert Stone.

Walter Kirn, Your father was baptized and became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because of the good example of others (Idaho damn). I don't even know your father as well as you think you know him. If that is true (what you said on public T.V.) we will each know for sure in 87 years. It is not too late to get in-touch
Walter Kirn is doing great work with Matt Taibbi these days. Voices of sanity in an ocean of madness.
Absolutely, thank goodness for their collaboration.
Interviews like these are fantastic. C-Span continues to do a worthy job. Thank you posting this illuminating Walter Kirn interview.
I was beginning to forget the standards held for a provocative and intelligent interview.

A pretty fair novel also. 😉
He’s a great observer of humanity

Love that he mentioned Hitchens first as favorite political writer
Glib and yet entirely credible. I love it when he shows up on the Greg Gutfeld Show.
