I'm a professional photographer of 23 years and just got married a few weeks back. I was able to work a trade deal with a fellow photographer friend where I photographed her sister's wedding so she could gift that to her instead of be stuck behind the camera and she photographed mine. I gave her the raw files to edit her sisters stuff and she gave me the raw files to edit. We did both do a comprehensive sneak peek for each other so the first time seeing a preview wasn't looking at raw files... gave us the chance to still get that moment when looking through.

8:17 You could create a display at the wedding with some bingo cards listing the different photos you want taken, and have your guests submit the card/list and photos to you online after the wedding (but by a certain deadline.) Whoever completes the most, or the first who gets a black out, would get a prize.

we planned for a two year engagement and hired someone who was just starting out! We paid her beginner prices knowing full well that she would be pretty experienced by the time our day rolled around. We also lucked out because she is doing our videography for free to build her portfolio.

We’re doing one shooter for 4 hours. Already had our engagement shoot with her, and she’s wonderful! At the reception we’re also going to have a diy photobooth with an iPad set up and connected to one of those little printers that print photos on sticky paper to put in our guestbook.

I found an amazing husband and wife photography team that does smaller wedding packages (2, 3, and 4 hour packages) and are so affordable yet so good! We are hiring them for 6 hours for our wedding and paying in the $800s!!

Hi Jamie! I love your videos and find them so helpful for my A type personally! I was hoping your could do a “wedding binder” video, like what would you want to see as a day of coordinator and what would you want on hand as a bride paperwork wise like contracts, checks, seating chart etc!

This video couldn't have came at a better time JAMIE YOU ARE AN ANGEL! I just messaged my photographer about cutting hours last night, this made me feel so much better we are crunching everything into 4 hours and then doing disposable photos for the reception time! Thank you Jamie!

Our wedding will be in June 2023. We have no budget for a photographer, but we came up with several soulitons (yes we are doing them all) ; 1. My uncle uses a lot of photography in his work and can and will make the photos during the day. (Not the same as a proff but still a good option) 2. During the party/night we are hiring a photobooth. Not cheap bus not as much as a photografer. (4 hours-unlimited photo prints-online acces after to all photos taken-€400,-) 3. Disposable camera’s are quite expansive (€18,-) so, I have an old camera that still works. We place it on a table with a sing ‘grap me, snap, put me back’. People can take all the photos the want, all day long, and I can develop them after. (I also get them on my phone, is an app from Nikon) Hope it helps some of you as well. Greetings from the Netherlands!

We did 1 shooter for 6 hours. Cost was NZD $1800. We ended up with just shy of 500 edited photos. Our ceremony was at 2pm and she went straight there about 20-30 minutes prior.
Our important aspects were the ceremony, the group photos, bridal party, sunset photos and the general vibe of the day. She also got a decent amount of the reception.
So happy for her and will definitely be going back for anything we need in the future.

I have been married twice and both times had tiny budgets (under $4000 each). 1st time my photography package was given as a wedding gift but a very small package limited to a few hours and a total of 85 pictures. My approach was to get the traditional shots of the big moments of the wedding and reception and then I wanted portrait type pictures of each couple or family that was there. That worked out perfectly. We had disposable cameras on the tables but that resulted in a lot of bad pictures of my dress, people with their heads cut off and a lot of blurry pictures not worth keeping.
2nd time around a family member offered to do the photography as our gift and he has a legit camera that he uses for work. Literally his wife & daughters were my bridal party so it was easy to get our pictures done after the ceremony. We had talked about what pictures were important to me from the day and he got them and a lot more. 😁

Really enjoyed your video with Vanessa Joy. Fell down the rabbit hole that is her website. If I were going the Student Photographer route, I think I would purchase her Speed Posing course for that student.

We have 3 friends who more than dabble in photography (one actually did the photography for my first wedding, lol, and worked for our local newspaper) and all 3 will be shooting on-site from getting ready pre-ceremony until send-off. Yes, I'm feeding them (3 times, and including snacks and drinks) and factoring in mandatory break times for them, too! They are wonderful friends and I still want them to be afterward, too. 🤣

We've booked an experienced photographer for a full 10 hour, who yes comes at a higher cost (the highest single cost in our budget) but we felt it worth it as we didn't want to end up with less than amazing photos

Hi, can you please make a video about different creative ways to announce something big in your life at your own wedding? Like a pregnancy, that the couple eloped alone beforehand, bought a house, move to another country, etc. That would be so great and helpful! 😊

After 10 years together and a super long engagement (7 years), my fiance and I are finally getting married this October. As a former pro photographer, I've always wanted to shoot my own wedding, BUT not alone, as I know that's a bit impossible, especially at the ceremony 😂 that being said, I'll have help from one of my friends for some of the madness, with a super detailed list of shots that are a must. Can we make it? We'll see! 😋

We are thinking of asking either my brother or a friend to do some photos during the wedding. Majority of the photos will be taken the day before because we are doing a very intimate ceremony at the courthouse with just a few witnesses. I am thinking all of the family photos and couple photos of us will be taken that day to save time. The next day which would be the reception we are inviting a total of 35 ish people, so probably 30 or less will be able to attend. The plan is to ask said brother or friend to do a bit of photos during, but mainly we are purchasing a portable printer to be able to recall photos from peoples phones. The budget for our wedding is 30 000 NOK which is in the ballpark of 3k USD, so professional photography was definetely not an option for us sadly.

Can you please do a video on DIY videography/live streaming? We don't want to hire someone to stream the ceremony but I have a lot of family and friends who won't be travelling I'd like to give them an option to watch it live. Will they be able to actually hear anything if it's recorded on a phone if the wedding is outside?

We got married in October but I still love Watching your videos.
We used classic photographers they are a company similar to lily and lime but I was able to get if a little cheaper
We had 2 shooters for 8 hours but our wedding was very small and we could have been fine with 5-6 hours

We've asked my brother in law to take pictures. Am I nervous? Oh YES! But we couldn't get the photographer I really wanted, and I didn't want to spend extra to have a photographer from out of town coming in. Sooo...I'm really just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best 😅

Hi Jamie, I just started watching your channel because I recently got engaged and I know this video is from a while ago, so I don't know if comments are still relevant but we've been looking for photographers and they are so unbelievably expensive. We are just hiring Lily and Lime for a short session to get some main pics but we want more. We did find two sites called guestpix and Waldoweddings where people can share their photos of our event by using a QR code that they'll be able to scan at the wedding. I don't know if you've heard of this or if they're any good, but I would love to see a video on Feedback if you have.

We’re doing a 2 hour package for $450! It’s really not that important to us to have professional photography for our cocktail and reception. I know it’s going to be a little hectic but we really just wanted to make sure we had coverage of our ceremony and some nice photos of us and of family 😀

jamie!! i need help! i got my venue contract (it’s all inclusive) to sign and they are saying we have to pay off the bill using their payment plan, which says your deposit is due now, 30% is due in 30 days to secure vendors, and then the remaining balance must be paid off in monthly installments from now until 90 days before the event & no refunds are issued under any circumstances. Is this normal?? i thought you pay your non refundable deposit and then the remainder is due ___# of days before your wedding, so if you cancel for some reason, all you lose is your deposit. my fiancé and i are really not feeling good about this contract…but i’m not sure if that’s industry standard or if that’s strange! sos ♥️♥️♥️

My mom did disposable cameras and only two were left at the end (people took them) and there were only a couple photos on one of the ones left and none on the other. As a wedding photographer myself I'm having trouble with being too picky with photographers and wondering how I'm going to afford one I like..... less than a year away and no plan yet 😳🙄

Well I’m not engaged and I’m not even in a relationship right now but more likely then not I am going to be on a tight budget for my wedding so with that being said I might hire a student who is studying photography at a local college to give them some experience and so me and my husband to be can save some money

    1. My photographer offers elopement/microwedding package (up to 4 hours, we are doing 3 lol) which is what we are going with, and out of my experience contacting photographers I don't remember anyone saying 'sorry nope bye' to shorter hours. Also if the one you contacted is out of your budget, ask him/her for recommendations that do similar styles with them but possibly within your budget, because that's how I got my videographer!
    2. YES the college-level experience. My videographer didn't major in it but has worked professionally even though he is comparatively young (haven't graduated) and started his own company just before I contacted him and was willing to negotiate pricing (as I asked for shorter hours, but still said yes to doing drone shots for us which is INSANELY cool!)
    3. My personal suggestion...DO NOT choose your vendors, ESPECIALLY photography/videography because he/she is in your budget. Thanks to instagram (pretty sure that's how I found mine) you can find TON of photographers that you may not see on google search and their styles! You will probs hate looking at your pictures if you choose depending on your budget.. like the highschool one Jamie talked about.
