"The Pot" from Tool's "10,000 Days" album (2006).
I know, absolutely disgusting bass solo. I lack the pedals/plug-ins for it. But hey, I'm very happy with the rest of the cover. How about that punch eh? This is one of my favourite Tool songs so I'm glad to have covered it anyway. Similar to the 46 & 2 cover, I changed some little changes when you put it up to the CoverSolutions tab. Though we will always miss a few details, I've added some new things to the tab. For example, that 3rd fret on the A string at 5:26, or actually playing the slide with a whammy (one octave up) at 2:45. I hope you will enjoy it, despite the bass solo tone.
Some important information that nobody is going to read.
Tuning : D-A-D-G
Artist : Tool
Bassist : Justin Chancellor
Album : 10,000 Days (2006)
Song : THE POT
Bass : Warwick GPS Corvette 5A Ash
Guys, I absolutely butchered the tone during the bass solo. Sorry about that. But I hope you will enjoy the rest of the video :)
The tone for the rest of the song more than makes up for it.
Perfect tone, don't worry bout the solo. Neither justin knows whatkindoffuckineffectactuallyused
i don't care. it makes it better
I can’t get the tone right for any song your good
I really like the sound of it, it gives it a different vibe to the original, incredible playing man
I actually liked the way you did the solo, sounds so moody
I am so glad to hear that..
Justin Chancellor..
You are a gift, an alien, something else
Sounds like a cool as hell live version, nicely done!
Thanks a lot!
I think you are one of the most helpful ways for people like me wanting to learn the stupidly difficult bass riffs of Justin Chancellor. Since i got my bass your videos have helped a bunch. So thankyou :)
Thank you very much. I'm really happy to hear that it helps!
@@LeoBassCovers2it is, still. I watch your videos exclusively for learning any tool song. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I though I actually knew this song, glad I gave it a watch. Noticed I've been missing a cheeky note in the chorus. Favourite part is the last riff to play, so much groove going on.
Oh I love that part as well. Such an aggressive outro..
Is it that G# to D thing?
The tone is insanely accurate! Nice!
Thank you very much!
Best bass covers on TH-cam, your videos have helped me immensely
Glad to hear! Thank you :)
it's really impossible getting the punchy tone like the Wal and the zillion pedals but this is pretty cool
Agreed. Thank you!
How many peddles are used?
Ross Ross I think around four or five, not to mention most retail for around a couple hundred
@@rossross9281 over 9000 in some parts
@@iantrolington6594 I think that’s a low estimate. In some songs he uses 49 trillion peddles minimum.
I don't play bass, but I come here to listen to the tracks with this amazing bass boost! :)
Amazing job! The 10,000 days tone seems especially tough to get, lots of punchy bright tone without muddying up anything. Definitely shows the power of Justin’s setup. Anyways, I like the rendition of the solo, the reverb really makes it it’s own thing, which isn’t a bad thing at all. Great job friend! Also looking forward to your album 🤘
Thank you very much! I'm quite surprised that most people actually like the reverb for the bass solo while I actually needed envelope or something. anyway, very glad to hear!
They just keep coming..
Thank you sooo much for the tabs, you're one of the only ones that have it on GP format.
No problem :)
You always get the tone right! And you’re a great bassist!
Thanks a lot!
Another long awaited cover!! Sounds great!
Thanks! :)
Amazing. The bridge at 4:07 is so good
Another great cover .. Justin really likes his dotted quarter notes. The psychedelia is real in the solo and the Distortion/Auto-Wah QWAH-QWAH-QUWAH part .. Love It! Also i can’t trust people who honestly count this in 4/4 ..
Thank you :)
I don't even know why people would even count this. This is one of those songs that you really have to feel.
perfection, brother. I actually really liked the tone on the solo. hopefully im not the only one
Thanks man!
Sick, my dude. A lot of work when into this. Thank you.
Thanks man!
Thank you Leo! Perfect cover
Thank you very much :)
You sir, are a gift from the heavens!
Awesome bass tone!👍
Thank you very much!
Awesome man. looks like fun to play!
Oh it is super fun to play! Well, except for the solo
@@LeoBassCovers2 I really appreciate this cover man. I've far from mastered the song but I've been having a blast learning to play it.
Amazing work, Leo! Thanks!
Thanks a lot!
Grande Cover
Beautiful
The sound of my life
Wow, another one! It has a different sound from cover and I like it
Glad you like it :)
thanks for adding the tuning
No problem!
after a year of playing i finally master the whole song 😌😌
You did it!
I was just searching through your vids for this song. it's like you knew
Fun fact : I knew!
Hey man, I think you do solos very well! Great as always!
Thanks mate!
@@LeoBassCovers2 You are very welcome!
Man these songs are hard but im keen to learn them
You got this!
I had NO idea that was a bass solo
Fuckin amazing, mate 🍽
Yeah man badass!
Thank you!
Damn that intro is TIGHT BOIIIII
The first minute IMO sounds the best idk why... but that’s one of the best beginnings of not the best I’ve heard
Hmm I get that. It definitely has a certain vibe to it that feels kind of ominous and mysterious.
@@LeoBassCovers2 glad you understood that I worded that weirdly xD
this is better than anything
great cover!
Thanks!
Leo you should start doing some Karnivool covers!!
Awesome!!! Thanks =)
No problem!
Wow!!!!💕
Good job homie!!
Thanks man!
Nice cover Leo!!
There's a song from my country called "La Grasa de las Capitales" by Seru Giran. It would be awesome to see a cover from Pedro Aznar, the latinamerican Jaco Pastorius.
You're the best man!
Thank you! I already did "Drive Home" for you though. I feel like this more something CoverSolutions would do as he's been putting out a lot of South American covers lately.
Nice. 👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks!
funky
Sick ass cover, bro!! Your tone is on point. But I have a question though, do you know if Justin uses the Whammy pedal on his bass solo?? I can’t tell and now I’m wondering.
Thanks a lot! He does actually use the whammy for this solo and I completely forgot about it whilst recording this video..
Hey Leo, I’m having struggle with the high interlude rhythms, is there any trick to learning the different rhythms in that part? Thanks
It's a tricky one so you have to slow it down as much as possible. The rhythm goes completely against the beat so I guess all you can do is practice it slowly and learn how to feel the beat while playing off-beat riffs
@@LeoBassCovers2 Right on man, I learned it, with exactly that! Thanks!
Is the swell sound at 4:27 not Justin using the whammy up and down before going back into the riff? I always assumed that was him
That's him...
Awesome cover. Any chance of ever doing Vicarious? I know CoverSolutions did it, but it would be great to see your take on it.
Thank you! It'll probably happen at some point :)
Yeeees!
Trying to learn this but having a difficult time with the timing of the riff. Is this 3/4 or 4/4 with dotted quarter notes?
4:32 in original, i hear something different, hummer on and muted sound on bass
Faz a intro de Californication em Castle Slane.... Ninguém fez esse cover com tablatura ainda, você será o primeiro!
I will cover the Slane Castle intro! :)
what a tone! can I ask u for EQ settings and strings specifics?
I kinda forgot the EQ settings, but these are the strings : Dunlop DBSBN45125 Super Bright NW Medium 45-125
What effects?
You get this asked a lot, but how do you achieve such a powerful tone?
Honestly a lot of the tones comes from using the DarkGlass plug-in/effects. I used DarkGlass Ultra for this one and it just instantly sounds more powerful. They're amazing pedals/plug-ins
@@LeoBassCovers2 Alright, so the power comes from the effects ? I'm still pretty uneducated on how pedals and amps works. I just play the bass ya know
Well I use a digital plug-in for my covers so it's different. When you play with physical gear, one effect pedal isn't going to fix all problems. The amp settings need to be good too, as well as the knobs on the bass. For example for Tool, you'll need quite a lot of bass and treble, not a lot of mid. A blend of bridge and neck pick-up works well for Tool too.
You should do Erased by Deceptic
Thanks!
Also I have a question, I recently started playing bass and I use digital software like Guitar Rig 5. It has all the effects I would want to use such as delay etc. They work when I turn them on by clicking but sometimes (like in many Tool songs) I don't have time to stop during the song to click and change the effects. Do you know a way that lets me add the effects at specific times after recording?
You would have to make seperate tracks for that as Guitar Rig is a realtime-effect. There's no turning it on or off.
@@LeoBassCovers2 Oh I see. That would work. I assume there's no other way? (Other than buying pedals)
There might be a way to do this, but that would only be through modulation. Linking an insert to some sort of modulation connection so that it would only cut out when you don't use it. I have no if that's possible though. I know it's possible with certain equalizers, but I have no idea if that's doable with Guitar Rig. So...buying pedals or making seperate tracks yep..
@@LeoBassCovers2 Okay. Thank you very much! I'll make separate tracks for now and buy pedals at some point in the future.
And he has s Warwick streamer!!
It's actually a Warwick Corvette :)
@@LeoBassCovers2 ahh shit I knew that after I typed it. Was too late. Lol
Hey man awesome cover! One quick question since you use guitar pro. Is it possible to add flanger/delay pedal effects and stack them together?
It definitely is possible! The bass solo in Invincible consists of delay, flanger, chorus, distortion and a whammy so it's possible :)
great cover and tone as always, what strings you use?
Thanks! For this video, I used Dunlop DBSBN45125 Super Bright NW Medium 45-125
I think the bass solo was fine until the very end. Don't beat yourself up over it
If I’m being honest, the tone for the solo would’ve been fine if you added an octave pedal to it.
Well, I did. The bass whammy with a full octave up.
LeoBassCovers I can’t even hear it during the solo. Guess you really weren’t kidding about the tone lol
nice foot bro
Don t worry for the solo tone the cover have a grit tone, i suggest you to try delay instead of reverb, i use distortion (low distortion with high level, lot of low cut and bost for the high), delay and chorus...work really well....;)
