  • made out of crashed gyrocopter parts and motor from a rolled backpackers car.
    motor: Subaru ej22 Follow for more crazy gyrocopter videos and we will make a part 2!
    it's his work in progress and he's ordered a windscreen for it but that is in transit right now, and since this video he decided to keep the raf tail on it and added a few sections to the tail, its really something else haha, part 2 of testing is going to be crazier than this so keep an eye out

    Is the rotor spinned by an electric motor? And do these gyrocopters have swashplates? Or does the rotor-motor tilts as a unit?

    • @omeobandit9928
      @omeobandit9928  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The rotor gets spinned up by an electric starter motor out of an old car but only while the machine is on the ground. Its only to get the rotors started, then the headwind does the rest of the job as you move forward. Search gyrocopter rotor heads and you will see :)

    Looks good. I thought it was only running on 3 cylinders to begin with. What is the max rpm it can turn the prop? It seems like it needs a bit more pitch to me? All that sharp aluminium around your legs, I recommend you get some of that 'pinch weld' or plastic edging like around car door openings and clip it on anything sharp... so that if, for some reason there is a mishap, you don't cut your bare legs to bits. How come you use the narrow strip between the fence and trees when there is the big strip available? I am not keen on tall tails... I don't drink the koolade... I like the HS to be in the air flow, not in the prop wash haha

    • @omeobandit9928
      @omeobandit9928  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm really keen to see max again and make part 2 testing this machine, then i'll be able to answer these questions :) The reason we don't have access to that airstrip is a story of stingy bureaucratic council politics and pen pushers 🙄

    I don't think the rotor is big enough for the weight. The aircraft seems to be going excessively fast and only flying from ground effect. Need to remove half the weight or increase the size of the rotor or both...... I wouldn't have a clue though. Just looks like it.

    • @omeobandit9928
      @omeobandit9928  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for your comment. The rotor is fine, and the motor is very powerful. This machine is thrown together from spare parts from lots of different machines. This is the very first time max tested it so he was doing lots of ground testing and the real reason we didn't go very high is because we were scared! This is what it looks like being a test pilot of a machine built from scratch. It takes time to get confidence in the machine :)

      @@enoz.j3506 I thought about that before but got told id run into gearbox redrive issues, and they rev a lot higher which they are not made to sit on those high revs all day. Car and aircraft engines are very reliable and have no problem sitting on 5000 revs. I have seen a two seater gyrocopter with a suzuki Hayabusa 1300 engine so it can definitely be done
