  • I Prayed for 1500 Hours in the Prayer Room Then This Happened…
A very personal story of how Mike Bickle makes young people religious and weak instead of spiritual and powerful
A 5,000-word well-written report now available for the first time in a narrated 30-minute presentation. This is one of the most thoughtful and insightful presentations by a former IHOP member you may ever find, and it's particularly relevant again, ten years later, as Bickle's personal views on repentance are a topic of discussion. It was written by a very articulate teacher, and it's not a rant, so it's easy to listen to.
    Excerpts
"My friend was touching on something deeply disturbing. Despite all the time I had spent in the prayer room-about 1500 hours over six years-and despite all the FCF services I had attended, the Encounter God Services, the conferences, and the hours at the Awakening, I was not experiencing daily deliverance from sin."
"For so long in my life, and very soon after my involvement with IHOP, 'change' meant doing religious things more: reading my Bible, praying, and fasting. In a couple of those disciplines, I was 'changing.' However, the 'change' my friend was talking about was very different. It was the change that happens in a person when Christ delivers him from sin and empowers him to walk free from it."
"When teaching about false teachers, Jesus said, 'By their fruit you will know them.' I was the fruit of Mike Bickle's teaching, and I wasn't very good."
"Bickle was saying, 'Sin is not rebellion against God, it's only a sign of immaturity. We can run to God to experience His mercy in our time of need instead of expecting to be crushed.'
"For a young believer, mostly unacquainted with the gospel and the power contained in it for holiness, this message was as powerful as any I've ever heard. It was the promise of freedom from sin and intimacy with God without shame. All I needed to do was run to God when I sinned, pour out my heart to Him, and He would accept me.
"That night something profoundly evil happened in my understanding of sin. The conviction associated with sin, the conviction that led me to repentance and true freedom, was replaced by a delusion that sin wasn't that big of a deal.
"Instead of sin being the manifestation of a rebellious flesh, and worthy of judgement on the Cross, it became merely the by-product of immaturity. At that moment, while listening to Bickle, the massive, crushing weight of conviction was lifted off my shoulders. But it had not been lifted by Christ.
"Instead, the Cross was taken out of the equation, replaced by a God whose character was so loving and merciful that He eclipsed sin's destructive power by the sheer force of His desire for humanity.
"A new method of repentance was introduced, which was not repentance at all."
TLDR: Mike Bickle and IHOP-KC offer intimacy with God without genuine repentance and obedience to Christ, who said, "You are My friends if you do what I command" (John 15 : 14-16).

One of the first RED FLAGS that one is to know is this, Mike talks about the "prophecy" he received from God, saying, "I will change the expression of Christianity in one generation." Right there, without being specific, he is allowing himself license to make up any heresy he desires and have people follow him in awe... I mean, just think about it for a second. His theology and behavior reflect his own heart, not God's.

It is all about those manufactured works and causes people to close their eyes to what should have been obvious sin.

This was a good presentation by the author.
Once corrupt leadership not biblically qualified for office is purged there are questions that remain.
1 - Is 24 hour prayer, the way it's being done, really a movement from and glorifying to our Lord?
Or ... is it a failed movement based on a false prophecy from a false prophet?
2- Is IhopU really a good idea? Is it really equipping people for ministry in life?
Or is at academically weak or worse, curriculum centered around bad ideas from a false prophet?
I don't doubt the sincerity, good intentions and love for our Lord from young people who spend time in the prayer room or at the "University".
Would these people be better off going to a proper Bible College, or a seminary for those who would qualify and for those who don't would they be better off going to junior colleges and Vocational training while living in a proper Christian fellowship who spread the gospel, teach and follow good doctrine as they love each other as an assembly?

This helped me understand why MB seems to take sin so lightly. He believes that sin is due to immaturity rather than rebellion in a Christian (as opposed to a non-Christian), and that therefore, God sees the same sin differently when it is done by a Christian. Really strange teaching and doctrine.
His life illustrates where that doctrine leads. Sad, because MB was blessed with much, yet chose to let his flesh rule his life. He excused his sin rather than seeing how rebellious and filthy it is. He did not see how his sin was crucifying Christ. He did not respect the Holiness of God.
I pray that whatever he is experiencing now can get through to him to change his heart. I am sure God can still use him in some way, although public ministry or leadership over others are not good options for many reasons.

A Bible Teacher friend defines an idol as “anything that keeps me from the Cross”.
Only goes to show how true the word of God is:
“If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, “Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!” (which all refer to things destined to perish with use)-in accordance with the commandments and teachings of man? These are matters which do have the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and humility and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.” (Colossians 2:20-23)
When even good things such as worship, prayer, , take the place of Jesus and His Cross, they become idols. And idols can only have the “appearance of wisdom” and “self-made religion”. They are incapable of helping a person to change.

While, this person is spot on, revealing the deception and danger in emotionalism and the cult-like characteristics that any church groups can fall into, I think it’s important to keep in mind that it is safe to define sin as anything that is unloving. Jesus said if we love our neighbor as ourself, we are fulfilling the entire law. (And I agree that the fruit of the spirit signifies our growth - and a the result as being “saved from our sin”
Mike did not love his neighbor. - he manipulated - he deceived he used for his own personal gain, and that is NOT love. To say the least.

@@aliciamock1503 @Spirit-Truth53 But unloving according to who? I'm sure you mean according to God's standard. But there are plenty of people who say that teaching the truth of the Bible is unloving... We don't have to guess about what sin is under the New Covenant, or just define it as being unloving and leave it up to people's own definitions to figure out what that includes. Scripture makes it very clear. The New Testament reaffirms that believers are still to follow the all moral laws of God as we follow Jesus as our Lord as well as Savior - though we're set free from the civil and ceremonial laws of Moses. These moral laws that were formerly written on stone, were taken to an even higher and deeper standard through Jesus - all the way to the heart level - where they are now to be written within us. You mentioned that the entire law is fulfilled in loving our neighbor as ourselves, but that's only half of the what Jesus said. The other half is loving the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, strength. It takes both of these parts to comprise what Scripture refers to as "the law of Christ" - which encompasses all the moral laws of God. Paul said that we are not "lawless" - which is the mistake that many make when Scripture says we're no longer under the law of Moses. He said that we're bound to the law of Christ. Jesus and John made clear that those who continue to practice sin (violating the moral laws of God) are not truly born again, but are still children of the devil. We were warned repeatedly in the NT not to be deceived by these grace heresies that try to make people tolerant of sin. It's really tragic that Mike B was deceived and was deceiving so many others.

Amen, when we accept Christ, we become a NEW CREATION. We stumble sometimes and sin, whether the "sin of commission or omission (disobedience)," as we still live in the flesh. But if one cannot stop sinning, inner healing/deliverance with an experienced team along with a good aftercare program can reveal and bring about real victory and teach us to see the initial lies that led us to entertain thoughts and carry out disobedience. We must repent, renounce, and receive forgiveness. Oftentimes, we may not even understand something is a sin and continue in it blinded and deceived. Good mentoring/discipleship provides us with having someone in our lives who loves us enough to risk rejection by telling us the truth about something we are doing or not doing, that is hurting us, just like Christ modeled.

The first 'person' speaking on this vid says for years he thought things were OK at IHOP. This goes to show He was spending more time listening to someone else, rather than taking the time in study, worship and prayer to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying. Paul to the Ephesians in Chapter 4 clearly says the 5 fold is to equip the believers, who are the ones who should be building up the body. We are not to sit with gaping mouths like baby birds warting to be fed. Paul also explains in Cor. that when we come together each one of us is supposed to contribute with a psalm, a hymn, a word from the LORD. When was the last time you saw that happening. If we want to claim we are victims of pastors, I would submit the pastors are victims of lazy pew warmers, who don't take the time in study, worship and prayer listening for the Holy Spirit so they can add to the growth of the Church. When Paul said all may prophesy, he meant each one of us is capable of bringing an inspired word from God, it was not meant to become the Christian version of fortunetelling prophecy has become today. Pastors are only a small part of the problem, lazy, non committed pew warmers are the real problem. There would not be mediocracy in the pulpit if first it wasn't in the pew.

Not sure what the two authors of this channel are now trying to accomplish, unless this is the ONLY thing they have to offer the Body?? Bickle is kicked out of ministry, publicly shamed, his legacy trashed, so how much more you wish to accomplish short of a public hanging is questionable. It then becomes a question that you need to answer as to YOUR motives? You are setting yourself up as some kind of judge and jury I presume because you see what Bickle is said to have done has harmed members of the Body. As someone qualified to judge in such matters I would challenge you to present just what is the Gospel you are defending. I would also like to know your testimony of how YOU are obeying the LORD when we were told to preach the Gospel, cast out demons, heal the sick and raise the dead. To fulfil the first part of His command just what is your idea of the Gospel of which He spoke? Looking at the 'church' in the US today, it seems NO ONE knows what this Gospel is actually that we are to preach.

@@lynneeify Are you the author?? When you share the Gospel what do you tell people? Do you obey Him by your actions? The ONLY reason a true believer can depart (not sure a true believer can) is if they are spending more time listening to the 'leaders' than they are listening to the Holy Spirit. If a 'believer' didn't spend more time watching television or surfing the Net than they do sitting and listening to the Holy Spirit, they would never be able to depart based on what someone is teaching. According to Eph 4, the believers that is you and I are to be the ones doing the work, it is not up to the pastors, it is up to us, according to what God says in Eph 4. Paul also says when we come together, each one of us it to have a psalm, a hymn, a word or teaching and be the active part of the assembly. We are not supposed to sit in a pew like a bump on a log, waiting for the pastor to feed us. If the pew warmers were to actually study their Bible they would not tolerate what church has become, and the fault of that lays squarely at the feet of the pew warmers who have never done their part in building up the body. It is not on the pastors it is on US that the church is so weak and feeble and our LORDS Name is mocked. Blaming pastors for our own failing is typical of the culture today where we are all just pool victims and not responsible for our part.
