Stumbled across this video and I saw the thumbnail... thank you for sharing this textbook by Dr. Blau and Dr. Wagman! I've had the privilege to work with Dr. Wagman at Illinois State University. Ecological Psychology is fascinating!
Only 20 minutes in and I just wanted to say thank-you 🙏. I’ve been applying Eco Psych to teaching computer science for more than 20 years, but I started applying EcoD to horse movement rehab/training for the past decade. And it’s an extremely tiny niche of people doing this (not to mention a near polar-opposite to the assumptions governing horse training for 2000+ years 😒). So, I’m deeply grateful for you bringing this much detail/depth (and your personal story!) to a topic I wish more people understood.
...and design with affordances. Excellent, much has been made in various design forums on this, especially with the push/pull door access. For other 'road' based examples, see where cycling on and off roads 'meet' is a good place to look. And yes... still dipping. : ))))))
In my old house bowls in plates were next to the fridge in a narrow cabinet. In the new place a similar cabinet has cups placed in it and the bowls and plates are in a corner cabinet. In the old place our cups were in a corner cabinet. So ill open the wrong cabinet for a bowl . Even the I know it’s not there
A few minutes in... I am hard of hearing in my left ear. But I also sit on the right side. Now I am wondering if I was doing the other things you mentioned as a kid. I didn't realize until I was an adult that I was lip reading. I am not good in sports. I like reading and writing. Why didn't you want to do videos? I was bullied.. no one would be my friend.
As an unrealised 'deaf in one ear'... via "you're not paying attention", never mind enough caused me to have to go see the educational psychologist at the age of six. And back then the school given hearing tests were not sufficiently sophisticated to 'catch' the ability to 'cheat', i.e. hear something to the left with my right ear... Although 'he cocking a deafen' was a common enough comment. Then I got slapped, which burst my right ear drum, at the age of 13... and school life went downhill... further. Glasses before the end of University and hearing aids by 30... Thanx for this. ()()()()()()()() Now back to the rest of the vid.
Further; Deaf and sight disadvantaged... but 'we' still say 1960, rather than 1690... but odd question, you didn't add your usual 'close caption' to correct this, so did you mishear it too? So did your 'central exec. get confused... ... this is a dense vid. Truly, useful too. Dipping into this via 'evolutionary behaviour' minimal understanding. Thanks
I am not sure what you mean by the first part of the comment. > How do we know what is relevant -> Education of attention and Education of intention is calibrated (our learning) Relevence is dynamic through the organism environment relationship and so specifying information becomes more or less relevant as we move through time.
@@Danny.Hatcher I was getting at the problem of directing your attention to clues that predict opponents movements. You cannot see everything, but it helps when you know where to look. Kind of how are you able to antisipate something that has not yet happened…
Monkey see monkey dooooo. IIRC a recent case of a first-time chimp mother, "didn't get" breastfeeding so her newborn was at risk. The 'zoo' asked for human volunteers to sit and breastfeed in sight of the chimp enclosure... the mum chimp, got the idea, the baby is doing well story resulted.

Aha, ecological psychology does have some expectations from the word ecological which is certainly something that may confuse people!
