- The Special Air Service (SAS) operator, Christian Craighead, who responded to and stopped a terror attack in Nairobi, Kenya received the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross for his actions that day.
The four bad guys who took on the luxury Dusit D2 complex were eliminated.. 21 innocent people lost their lives- and a year later, another woman succumbed to her injuries sustained during the event.
The Special Air Service (SAS) is a special forces unit of the British Army. The unit specialises in a number of roles including counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, direct action and covert reconnaissance. Much of the information about the SAS is highly classified, and the unit is not commented on by either the British government or the Ministry of Defense due to the secrecy and sensitivity of its operations.

The secrecy of the SAS is a hangover from the Irish troubles when the IRA would actively target identified SAS soldiers with car bombs. The SAS were the IRA's number one enemy. Kind of shows how crazy IRA fighters were that they spent most of their time engaging the SAS on the streets of Northern Ireland.

The terrorist action was a disgusting attack on everyday people, BUT, the look on the Kenyan soldiers' faces, when they saw 'crazy White guy' running in to fight, was funny in the videos. Imagine the confidence they got from seeing a bloke sent to teach them, doing the thing he said they could do. Probably the first time in their live that they trusted a senior soldier. A total "WTF" moment realising honour is actually a thing and they have it too. Kenya, Great people, corrupt government. Shame.
The fact that SAS are trained to work methodically as a team and this lad just went in solo is a testament to his skill and professionalism. Absolute hero.
That’s an absolutely insane story. I understand he was trained for situations similar to that, but to just grab your gear and run in without your team, without any plan, just solo, he’s the definition of a hero. That’s the type of thing that you see in the movies. Running in, rescuing people, and running back in. On top of that, killing two of the terrorists. He deserves more than just a medal.
He didn't go in solo, he went with Kenya SOF
Its actually exactly what he's trained for. Mass shooting events, particularly by organised groups, the response is that you don't wait for back up, you engage as soon as possible in order to stop the killings and give civilians the chance to escape.
It's backed up by evidence. Returning fire stops mass shootings.

@@gc679 - he actually did when he identified the terrorists but at his own request, he made the decision to move forwards on his own given there were no SAS/SBS present or US SF. Other troops aren't at their level, and it was probably a wise decision, given he successfully took down the two terrorists in his area. You see it in the video when the Kenyan troops remain in cover and he advances on his own and then you hear the gunfire.

I met Christian Craighead this past Shot Show and he was the most humble dude. He even said the British government and military were pissed he got involved and stated they did not want young soldiers looking up to him. 🤦🏻♂️

@@miken5413 according to Meyli Chapin who was one of the hostages he saved, she says he was the only one clearing buildings for the first two to three hours and he interrupted their execution spree between hotel rooms, and backed them up into a defensive position and took two of them out.
Sadly, once you are exposed like this, people like Craighead had to eventually 'retire' early because the nature of his work demands absolute secrecy.

I'm kenyan my friend was shot in the leg in this terror attack Chrstian Craighead was a badass clearing rooms and saving hostages by himself when regular police forces were afraid to move even though they had greater numbers. He was vital in providing intel and mapping out where the terrorists pinning them down before Kenyan SF arrived and finished the rest of the terrorist off. Funny I remember people saying the was Israeli Mossad at first. Just sad the British government and military were pissed he got involved the west should celebrate their heroes his elite training showed that day in all that chaos.

This is an urban area so more people allows you to clear rooms and provide support to your allies faster and more effectively, if it was a flat battlefield then yes having more numbers would make you a bigger target but it is not

I used to work in an offshore energy company, and out in Africa all our security leads were ex-UK Special Forces. I had lunch several times with one of the ex-SAS guys and he was exactly like all the UK SF guys I'd met, including one from the Boat Service: They were all quietly-spoken and understated. You knew if something kicked off they were the ones to run towards, but in daily life they were modest and polite to a man; absolutely nothing to prove.
So proud of our military men and women - utter professionals.

@@Ghost011 Forgive me if I decline to identify myself via too many details. If it helps, all the SF guys I met had families in the teenage range, i.e. their kids hadn't left home, and this was about 6 or 7 years ago.
The SBS chap I mentioned wasn't there; I met him somewhere else, but I'm not going to identify that either I'm afraid.

I enlisted with 2 guys, one went NORAD and the other ended up JTF2, since my retirement I went firefighter and he works security in Mali for children (big kidnapping target for sex trafficking and chocolate farms)

They truly are an elite force of professionalism, soldiering, advanced training, and putting it into place to safeguard others. This man saved God knows how many innocent Kenyan lives, using verve and bravery.

He actively assisted in extracting more than 700 individuals out of that horror, more than 40 by himself and he led more or less the whole operation. Not once did he slow down, he kept simply carrying out wounded while side striving and keeping an eye back at the compound almost at every second so as not to get shot at by terrorists from elevated positions. He led out scared females by holding their hands to comfort them while dragging them along so as to not slow down thus becoming easier targets. He has been spoken about to have been abnormally calm in his directives and always led his men by taking the front spearhead position when they went forward during all the clearing procedures. So yes, a specialized professional and gentleman indeed.

The SAS are the original "special forces" regiment. I believe your Delta Force was modelled on them. I also think the SAS was near to being disbanded, but their amazing ending of the Iranian Embassy siege in London in 1982 guaranteed they would never be at risk again, and cemented their now legendary reputation. And since then and the end of the Cold War, "special foces" units have become more and more important, especially in counter terrorism and training foreign armies.
They also trained Navy Seals back in the day to how they do there training... British SAS are the best of the best.

Well not many because the sas don't have to obey the law, they can kill civilians if they want. Loads of them have admitted shooting unarmed civilian people that we know were totally innocent of any crime and they get a free pass. If you knew you could kill everyone in the building and not be punished, you'd go in too. It's just a bunch of idiots doing the siege. The local police and forces have to worry about killing innocent people.
It's a way with some, "Lead, follow or get the hell out of my way".

LEGEND, I don't care how well armed you are. Going in alone against a heavily armed force of unknown bad guys with no idea how many bad guys there are is incredible. He must have made peace with the fact his chances of survival were slim
Probably not. one of the things that makes these guys differ from the rest of us is self-belief. They do not anticipate defeat, they visualize success and they train damn hard to make sure they are the best of the best.
There's a video somewhere on YT of an ex SAS guy clearing a building of unknown numbers using airsoft weapons. Trust me the terrorists were fighting a losing battle. These guys are just at a different level.
He had been out of combat, training locals. He was probably itching for a scrap. The SAS selects for a very specific mindset: people who enjoy combat and the adrenaline rush while still keeping a cool head.
That's not to say he wasn't brave and courageous, he was. Just, they would have to have been very lucky to pose a threat to him. The two he killed personally, probably didn't even see him until he was shooting them.
They don't care if an enemy is 1 or 100,if its alive its a target. They've been trained to be a controlled physcopath. Their fear isn't in command,fear is switched off and training is in command. Training and instinct. They are uncomparable to any others.

Obviously the odds were massively in his favour because of his training and skill, but it's still real bravery. But as Chris Ryan says, they do it because they've got to and people are relying on them. Saying "no"is not an option.

I took to calling SAS 'Owls' in the classic gasmask gear but Craighead just showed that's what the SAS are everywhere and wearing anything: Silent, wise and deadly Owls. Fucking legendary.
Also, he DESERVED the Victoria Cross. Doesn't matter he went "rouge", he did what he trained to do and did it ALONE. That takes balls of fucking depleted uranium, the well-earned confidence of someone that KNEW he could get the job done, and the sheer commitment to save those people and end the threat. Who knows how badly it could've ended up had this legend not gotten that call and said "Fuck the rules" to do what he knew was right. A true, dyed in the wool hero.
Not only did this legend manage to survive that. He also got 'immortalized' by having a skin in MW 2019 with a similar if not exact kit that he wore during his impromptu rescue op. The higher ups might've told him to fuck off after that but he's earned the respect of many out there for what he did. And his kit is in a game. Id say he's earned himself a drink at a pub.

Years ago when I was training as a USAF-CCT operator one of the schools i attended was Jungle Warfare, and it was held in Belize, the soldiers that trained us were SAS operators, let me tell you it was the hardest training I ever did and those SAS troops running the school were merciless. Best training I ever got anywhere. First in Last Out.
I'm curious as to how a US serviceman goes to a UK training area (BATSUB; British Army Training and Support Unit Belize) for training?! I do not doubt...
a) jungle warfare training is conducted there; it's a world-leading facility for such training
b) that UKSF (United Kingdom Special Forces; the umbrella term that includes 22 SAS and the SBS) personnel run courses there, both for the British military and for many other militaries, including the US

@@michaelanderson7715 UK/US forces will train together at times. I was in the Army from 04 to 07 and were some of the first to be engaged in urban warfare with the insurgents in Iraq. So it was a no brainer to have us help train some UK troops in insurgency tactics.
@@michaelanderson7715 I do agree that the training was excellent (think I mentioned that) The reason I was sent there was the US Air Force was realizing that it needed their own people attached to special operations forces Marine/Army/ Navy who had the expertise to support the teams with air assets a specialist who knew targeting, aircraft control, mapping as well as survival skills who would not be a burden to the teams. There was a problem however when it was proposed it was found acceptance by these elite teams and their commanders was not there. So a training 'pipeline' of various schools some with US, Army, Marines and Navy was setup. The AF however did not feel the jungle warfare school at Ft Lewis Washington was adequate for Tropical Jungle training and Survival, they contracted with the British, who lined us up with the SAS operation in Belize. That training got us accepted without question by all the service special Operators.

Stop this dick riding shit. Solo operator my ass we had other Kenyan civilians like Mr Kassam who went in with hand guns pistols and with no vests who helped civilians that day but nobody bothers to mention that.
All respect to Mr Craighead but he was not the only person who showed bravery and courage that day. He was accompanied by dozens of local police and did not enter before he was briefed and given the building schematics and gearing up in millitary gear.
He was no where near the terrorists and didn't shoot anybody. The recce squad finished them off and one of them probably traumatized later on suffered mentally after this attack and killed his partner before committing suicide but I guess only the white man is worth mentioning.
The white man must always control the narrative, always wants to be big like a child with a superiority complex. If you believe this video you must not have done research on the events that happened and most likely believe everything you see on TV is real.

I just saw him being interviewed by Garand Thumb over on the latter's channel. One of the most sobering things ever - what got me were the points about _truly_ being in readiness: the gravity that comes with being a gun owner, the possibility of killing when you deploy your weapon in a fight...

When you are an SAS Operator You are cleared hot sir. All the time. Good to go.❤ I cannot imagine being a bad guy, none the less hearing all your friends slowly one by one being precisely eliminated with surgical accuracy. That last bad guy was really sad when his time came. He had a while to realize what, and more specifically who, was coming for him.
As someone who has family in Nairobi and spent most of my childhood in Kenya. I understand how terrorism and effected the country and plunged it into a worse state. I really appreciate Craighead intervening, destroying the enemy and saving so many lives. It would’ve ended horribly if he wasn’t there. Great video. Loving the content!

Had this guy been American we would have had three films of this already. Instead he is a humble SAS operative. The best of the best… forget about any other specialist unit in any other country, the SAS are the best at what they do. This guy did what he was trained to do and did it well.

Edit: I suggest covering the Battle of Athens Tennessee (1946). A group of local WWII veterans led a rebellion against town leadership and local police for voter suppression and intimidation. It's a pretty crazy story
