    When welding aluminum use a stainless steel wire brush to clean weld areas just before and during welding you can`t use a steel wire brush or you contaminate the weld area. To control cracking 2 thins help, 1 is to preheat we used to use a type of chalk pencil and these melt at different temps, so the chalks are color coated, and then where ever possible you can all place heat sinks, which are usually brass, copper or aluminum pieces that can be pressed close to or behind weld to help control heat transfer { these are not welded to your piece but clamped or strapped evenly just laid tightish to piece you are welding} then removed after. Your cracking is caused by heat transferring away from the weld site to quickly. So as you weld the heat transfers so quickly to adjacent areas that this causes cracking either in the weld or beside the weld. This is called the heat-affected zone,

    Just rented the “Freedom 500”. I know it’s not your home field, but Leo you’re the best natural race car driver on the whole damn innerwebbs. As soon as I heard about this thing, the 1st thought that came to my mind was, “ if those cars are built to run the same, there’s no way Leonardo Trickle doesn’t win!!!!!!” I’ll be rootin for you guys. Doug if you’re not driving, do some of your engineering witchcraft on Leo’s car to give him the edge. Dr. Sous, when Leo takes the checkered flag, I want you to get in that car and just jump it right over the wall in turn 1. Love you guys!

    Love the harbor freight belt sander, I have built several turbo kits with mine. Cold side looks good, the only thing is if u are planning on running bigger boost like I think u will need to make 1,000 plus u might consider getting rid of the silicone couplings and using v-bands. Just a thought, I hate blowing couplings off constantly. The blow off valve u have will help, but still gambling imo. Badass build👍

    From an engineering standpoint on the plumbing for the 2jz RZR, I would say you would be hard pressed to get a more efficient set up except at the 90 at the throttle body. Only place outside of the intercooler where you would get the greatest power losses. But that would be fairly marginal relative to the intercooler.

    Whenever possible use a filler rod {welding rod} this helps to control cracking and adds material that has in some rods extra elements that improve weld flow and strength. Aluminum welding is very dirty, Smokey so get a shop vac or a proper welding fume extractor to keep your lungs, welding shield and work area cleaner. PS i am an old disabled welder so i kinda knows. Remember stainless steel wire brush or you are contaminating your weld, a filler rod to control your heat and adds metal that is usually better Metalurjically than the piece you are welding. Preheat to control expansion during welding which then shrinks almost immediately as you weld. The weld should usually be slightly higher and crowned than the joint, cracking in the weld center usually not enough filler rod, cracking on either side of weld not enough preheat. Oh and i mentioned the heat chacks, crayons but now you can use those laser heat measuring guns. Best of luck

    Heey new subscriber here.....love the work that doug does......definitely a skilled gear head......as far as the 2j in a SXS.....whoever the mentally unstable person is that will operate that beast......you have cohones of unimaginable size........on a side note if you're trying to hit 1000+ hp , which god knows why you even want that much power in a SXS , get rid of the "silly" couplings and use V bands for charge pipe connections to avoid "pressure separation"........i can tell by the lack of concern that you both have for just exactly what you're building.....Leo , Cleetus's corvette " ruby" doesn't pull anywhere near as hard as this SXS will pull , even if it only makes 900hp....you would blast down a 1/4 mile somewhere in the high 7 second range assuming it will even hook up.

    Also, be careful using belt sanders and wire wheels on aluminum for welding. It’s so soft that it’ll fold over and trap dirt in the metal and make it hard to weld. It’s best to use a stainless steel brush by hand for cleaning

    Putting the fuel cell in the rear would be the best idea safety wise to keep the source of fuel as far away from the cockpit.

    You guys should bead roll the end of tubes so that the couplers have a less chance to blow off from the tubing

    Just finished a K motor on boost holy shit it's wild on 10 lbs. WTF. I built most of my intercooler pipe with 3 1/2 in fence pipe. Lol. She pulls like a animal. 2100 rpm hits 10 lbs. Lol vf38 twinscroll. Only had a 4 1/2 inch when grinder and a 80 $welder. Went through 25 cut disc and 2 lbs of wire. Lol all home made flanges

    Lol you think that's buried, I'm an automotive dismantler and I work for one of the biggest companies in Canada that does what we do. We buy newer 2020 to 2000 year insurance write offs, salvage auction cars etc and pull the motors out, interiors, body panels and parts pretty much everything worth anything. Lately I've done two 2019 Jaguar Supercharged SUV and a one Jag supercharged car and you wouldn't believe how crammed things are. Even with lifts. Overhead cranes in shop and everything else tool wise to make the job easy. Same with Mercedes and BMW Late model cars and SUVs... cool job but sometimes frustrating lol

    Couldn't ya all put the gas tank up front under the plastic and make a fill spout for it ?just a question

    Stupid crazy thought - how much fuel do you think the roll cage would hold? But it is a funny thought. Ya know with a smaller tank attached to the role cage may give the volume you want with certain chambers of the roll cage blocked off.

    Why not mount the fuel tank under the seats as planned then the inter cooler above the gearbox

    You guys can run a remote throttle body. Hit up Jeremy from fasterproms he can help figure that out. He has done is several times on ls builds

    Would there be any way to fab fuel tanks into the tree kickers? You could put one on each side like you were talking about, keeping the weight low and won’t take up any room in the back.

    Are you guys going to do a skid plate over the intercooler or maybe some skid bars around it to keep it from getting punctured or smashed ?

    • @SXSBlog
      @SXSBlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the factory skid plate is going to protect most of that
