Great cars! Keep in mind if you buy one with 80K miles or more these are the three things you must do you have no service records to prove these have been done. Timing belt and water pump. If the timing belt breaks it will break the engine. The water pump is located right by the timing belt, so most of the cost is labor so go ahead and just replace the water pump while you're at it. Budget $1200 to $1500 to have a shop do it. It needs to be replaced every 10 years or 100K miles. New shocks and struts. Shocks/struts are typically good for 50k miles. Replacing them and ride quality will improve dramatically, and safety and handling will improve. Budget $500 to $1,000 for a shop to do it, depending upon the quality shocks/struts you buy. Lastly and most importantly, new tires. Along with shocks/struts, new tires will make the car ride like a new car again. Just because you have good tread depth left, age takes its toll on tire rubber. Check the year of manufacture listed on the tire. There is no spare tire so you don't want to be stuck far away with a flat tire. Budget $1,000 to $1300 for a quality set of four balanced and mounted. Enjoy!
Great to hear about your good experience! Mine 2004 is getting ready to turn 230,000 miles, I've had for a year with minor issues. Hope to keep at least another 8 years. You really need to sand the headlights and use clear coat to spiff them up. I cleaned mine that way and they look really good. I agree with your thoughts about the SC430, it's a special car.
@@lexusls4305 Yes, I used a pneumatic sander and wet sanded. However, this video shows how you can do it right without a power sander or sprayer. Hope it helps! th-cam.com/video/Xubwpeuqm-E/w-d-xo.html
Hubert. My 2002 has 234k on it. Same, use a drill sander to clean headlights up every year. Also got the paint corrected and ceramic coated last year. Car doesnt have a door ding on it. Looks and drives better than the 2021 rental I had last year.
I have a 2008 now at 36,200 miles that I bought this April. Put 2,500 miles on it since purchased. Will spend the winter in my garage on trickle charge. Those cupholders do stick on occasion - and the 24 ounce coffee cups from Wawa here in NJ are definitely a challenge to keep from tipping over. Mine is the dark blue "Smoky Granite Mica" with Ecru leather (cream). MSRP was $67k and I paid less that half of that. No spare, that kills truck space, so I drive around with Fix-A-Flat! I get 20MPG always use premium gas!
I paid 29k for my '08 with 33k miles last April. It was at a BMW dealership! The kicker is, they got me an excellent interest rate, my credit union would not touch it because of the age.
I am Japanese. This SC430 is an early model of the Lexus brand and has been made with great care. It was priced at $80,000 at the time, has a V8 engine, and a sturdy chassis, so as long as you maintain it properly, it's a car you can drive for another 20 years. In Japan, enthusiasts are buying it back, and the price has gone up since then. Please take good care of it.
I have had my 2008 for 10 years it has a little over 200,000 miles on it and it rides like a dream. It is dealer serviced and I have no issues whatsoever. The cost to own as been very low. I jus upgraded the radio to get Apple Car play it was a want not a need. The radio worked perfectly. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
So true about the tall drinks! Always have a cap on your drinks!! I've had my 2005 for just over a year and I am still loving this car when I drive it. I have never been so excited to drive a 17 year old vehicle. Such a fun weekend/getaway car. I would also buy this again.
Well you and rev were my inspiration for my purchase but I will drive mine in the winter easy now easy I will be Florida thanks for your positive reviews
Nice review. I have a 2002 with 140K on it. For the Cup Holder there is a snack cup sold at Dollar Tree (in US anyways) and the bottom of the cup makes a nice pocket in the cupholder. Nothing falls out of mine anymore; not even water bottles or coffee. Great channel.
They do come with a spare - we took ours out so we had more room in the trunk for groceries. If we drive out of town, we'll put it back in - but for in town, why bother?
Ok good. I was hoping I wouldn't have to hunt for one. When I buy mine I definitely plan on taking a cross country trip to California from TN. I know run flats only go so far lol
Have a 2006 SC PEBBLE BEACH EDITION..has 92000 miles ,my daily driver..love the car.its tiger eye , color with a beige interior..I have i🎉t serviced at the dealership probably every 5000 miles and occasionally have few things in the dealership protocol that i check off.i try not to let them touch the engine...just fluid, filter and minor stuff.
@@lexusls4305 Thank you. Also would you know if the seat height in your SC430 is any higher than a Merc SLK? It's just that my wife finds it hard to get in/out & I was wondering if she'd find the SC any better, altho I do appreciate that it's an entirely different type of car, I guess the shared desirable that both have folding roofs. Otherwise I'll have to swap the SLK for a standard saloon :(
Beautiful car Beautiful wife ❤... Seriously I'm looking at buying one as soon as i find the perfect one for me. Have you had the timing belt water pump ect. Done yet?

Sanding the headlights? We used over the counter material - but did you use a sander?

For $7500, you got a reliable, hardtop convertible at a 90 percent discount. Well done. 😀

I just found my wife an '08 with 28k in Flint Mica for 26k. I tried to convince my wife to sell it for a profit. But the car is excellent.
I get 23.8-24.5 mpg going 80 mph for 70 miles a day. 172k on the clock.

Funny how banks have trouble lending money for good cars that will survive the length of the loan. Hmmmmm
@pauli6043 I paid 26,500 at a Lexus dealership. It was a seasonal garage Florida vehicle

Yes
Get run flats
@@high0338 imo, run flats create a horrible ride compared to high-quality radials. Put your money into AAA road assistance instead of run flats!
300 dollars of groceries is 2 bags these days.
You bless if you take home one bag!
Love the car. One comment, clean the lense on your camera.
I’m looking at one 2005 peeble beech edition. It has 50k miles condition for 24k. What you think? It’s black with red interior

Does the car come with the spare tyre as standard? You featured apprx at 6:28.
Thx for posting.
It sure did. We take it out when we need the room, but only if we're driving in the city. The run flats the car came with are loooong gone.
