By the end of 1942, Soviet troops marching from Stalingrad had rushed towards Rostov to cut off the Germans' escape route out of the Caucasus.
The commander of the 16th Panzer Grenadier Division, Major-General Gerhard von Schwerin got instructions to pull his division back to Rostov by 10 Jan 1943.
The steel giants of Panzer-Abteilung 116 of the 16th Panzer Grenadier Division started to move out.
Part of this steel assault wedge were the Panzer IIIs of Oberfeldwebel Hans Bunzel's platoon.
Hans Bunzel was a seasoned soldier who had served as a tanker since the very beginning in 1934.
Shortly before the start of the campaign in Russia Bunzel became a tank commander and a section leader.
Bunzel's platoon would see fierce fighting against the Soviets with their T-34 tanks!

Further proof Panzer III, Panzer IV and StuG IIIs were the very backbone.

5mm/L42 guns get higher muzzle velocity and the rate of fire is about 20 rds per min. Pz III Ausf J could handle a T-34/76. The only problem is the usual problem with videos like these. The text to speech software mispronounces words and names too much. I'd rather hear the pronunciation and deal with the accent.

PzIV F2 was the best German tank until the Panthers got built. The Tiger is an upscaled version of the PzIV F2 and it breaks down way too often to use in battle. The King Tiger was an upscaled version of the Panther and it broke down more than any other Tank. The Tigers where a wasted effort…

Yeah the USSR where planning to attack Western Europe already years bevor. The Wehrmacht was just 1 month ahead from the Soviets with its military preventive strike. Thus why Barbarrossa was such a military success it was because Germany supriced an Gigantic army which where drilled and prepared for invasion and its generals would never believe or think that the Enemy already knew all their plans.

Because the SU was in a horrible state...
They had huge deficits on tactical levels and their economy was not competetive. The Germans had been well aware of these circumstances.
For instance, their agricultural sector was outmatched by Germany (and every other "leading" nation) on a far margin - also due to political reasoning (Lyssenkoism). Ppl in the SU started starving by the end of 1941. Without the existencial aid, provided by the Western Allies, it would have not stood a chance.
Ppl still tend to exaggerate the "mighty" power of the SU (and to an extent Russia), however corruption and missallocation of (human-)ressources & efforts - now and then - made it actually really weak in comparison to the European powers or the US.

The Pz III was an exceptionally reliable tank, and because it was smaller, it consumed less fuel. By either preheating the engine, or simply keeping in running all night, the tanks would be ready in the morning.
The latter more complicated German designs had more teething problems, and interleaved roadwheels could freeze in the night. This was not an issue with the Pz III

Great coverage of a less well-known Panzer ace. I saw some of the Panzer IIIs in that video footage were equipped with the 37mm main gun. I know that those tanks were no necessarily involved in the engagement described. But, just the same, I can't imagine what it would be like to take on T-34s with that "door knocker" 37mm instead of the 50mm gun that replaced it. And of course, the L48 75mm that was fitted to the StuG Ausf G and later variants of the Panzer IV would be even better.

I am surprised that the 50mm, the most powerful gun option for the Panzer III was sufficient against the T-34. The Panzer IV had the optional 75mm high velocity, which was just enough fire power to deal with the sloped armour of the T-34. I know that when I am building my Army for "The Russian Front" Close Combat. I love and use the Panzer III in it's Stug variant. It has the snub nosed 75mm gun. Ideal for traveling with my heavy infantry and being tasked with anti personnel and high explosive shells used to flatten infrastructure, bunkers and hardened defenses. I am curious as to the means of success utilized by the undergunned Panzer III's in their documented T-34 kills. The one description of the round striking a T-34 where the hull and turret meet makes sense to me, but having prolific T-34 kills can't be all attributed to that pin point accuracy. Thank you for the great content FactBytes (algorithm snack). I like and subscribe 🤟🍻🇨🇦

      @okmeneer9583 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Since the armor quality on the T-34 was so bad, you didn’t really need a big gun to break it. The 37mm PAK gun the Germans had was able to cause the armor to crack and break. On the inside of the tank a high velocity impact like that of a anti-tank gun would cause the armor to spall and shoot hot shrapnel into the crew compartment without actually penetrating the armor.

You'd be speaking it as a second language at worst. The Germans were planning a 'breitsphurbahn" or a "board gauge railway" of 3m (10ft) wide track which allows 6m (20ft) wide carriages. It was hoped to take it all the way to Siberia and then on to Alaska. This was not a matter of conquest. The Germans knew they didn't ha e the manpower to conquer the Soviet Union and basically had a line that ran through just past Moscow down to Black Sea. The rest was supposed to just collapse Politically and expand commerce.

Stalin is responsible for more deaths than any other man in history. The Red Army purge for example... his own people.
The Soviets invaded Poland in 1939 from the East, Germany from the West. Stalin immediately began shipping off to the infamous Russian Gulag System Polish jews, teachers, politicians... anyone he considered an undesirable. THAT is a "Villian" as you say.
Prewar Germany was roughly the size of the state of Montana in the United States going up against one of the world's largest countries... you should be embarrassed Mtsensk.
American programming?? Seems to me you are enjoying plenty of American inventions correct?? But... I'm guessing your C ommunist programming went well, lol. 😅
Btw... Russia waited to declare war on Japan until the next to last day of the war. Why? Just so Russia could take over two Japanese owned islands they wanted.
Stalin begged Roosevelt to open up a second front to take the pressure off of his forces... that is why the Americans landed in Italy in 1943. German had to take many men off the Eastern Front to combat this.
Russia was just as much a villain during ww2 as Germany. After the war?? Russia never stopped k Illing.
Once again... you should hang your head in shame!!
Btw... the suspension on the t34 tank was invented and developed by an AMERICAN named J. Walter Christie!! 😅
