This video is perfect timing. I’m getting ready to stain an oak table for a client and we were having a hard time deciding on a finish. I showed this to her and she loves the finish! You did such a great job explaining the staining process and now I’m ready to tackle the job. Thanks, Dee Garris (a Fusion Merchant too)
This is stunning! Can't wait to get the SFO here in Australia! I'll be stocking it in my Antique booth in Brisbane, as well as in our online shop (Australia). You've done a fabulous job of explaining the application and even the prep/sanding process. Thanks so much!
So if one wants to apply a clear coat for added durability then it needs to be applied how soon after the first stain coat? Beautiful and love your humour!
I was a little snarky in my previous post. I've been working on a project a bit too late into the evening and I realized after I posted that I was quick to write a comment and not elaborate properly to effectively communicate my message. For that I apologize. Now for my quick elaboration: I have always understood "open time" as the amount of time you have to manipulate or alter a medium before it fully cures. It was brought to my attention there are possibly different meanings of what "open time" is. Could you explain your definition of open time in a little more detail? Also, I really like fusion and Homestead House products. If you saw my studio you would see I am a BIG fan. Since you are a distributor, if might make sense to request Fusion focus a little more on their website about troubleshooting for consumers versus "how to" videos that focus more on selling their product and giving limited demonstration of use. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I will check back to see your response to my question.
Inspired Savant, sorry for not replying sooner. For some reason I didn’t see your message until now. The Open Time I’m referring to is the amount of time you have to apply any additional coats. Ironically, before we did this video we called the manufacturer to ask this very question: How long do we wait in between coats? We were told that if we plan to apply another coat we must do that within 9 hours. After that the grains begin to close and the product starts to seal making additional coats not absorb very well. However, you are correct....open time can also refer to the amount of time you have to “play/work” with a product before it too seals and/or dries. Applying a glaze over paint is a great example of that. Thanks for your comment. I hope this helps. ~Kristy
Next Time Around where is your shop located? Do you recommend applying a pre stain conditioner before applying fusion stain & oil? I’m refinishing my pine farm table in cappuccino.

Really excellent and informative. Just what I need before I tackle my table!
Thank you. I'm glad it helped.
Gorgeous!!

Beautiful table! Did you condition the wood before staining and if you did do clear SFO over the Ebony, would you wipe it back?
i found the sound fine a good clear explanation thku guys great job on this x
thank you for this! I am about to stain a coffee table I recently stripped of latex paint
You're welcome. Good luck with your project! :)
Can you share what gel stripper you used?

Yes, I have the same question!!!! I assume it would be within the 9 hour open time they mentioned??
I might have mussed this in the video- but what colour stain are you using?
We're using Ebony (black) Stain & Finishing Oil made by Fusion Mineral Paint
What did you do to the underside of the table top? Paint? Stain?
Nothing. It wasn’t finished by the original manufacturer either.
The volume is not high enough. I can barely hear you and I have it at 100 percent!
Sorry about that Don. It sounds fine on end but I will keep it in mind for future recordings.
Please also keep in mind that this product does NOT have a 9 HOUR OPEN TIME!
