Well, with stretchy fabrics like knits you smooth them out and hang on a drying rack. With non-stretchy materials, like men's shirts for example, you hang them up on clothing hangers to dry. Everything comes out pretty smooth.

I purchased a few glass containers for foods to pack with me. Game change. I’m far more motivated to prep my food and take it with me than spend on lunch. Marshall’s/TJ Maxx - they both sell a variety of these for cheap. I also strongly suggest glass containers since you can microwave those and they never leave any kind of smell/residue like Tupperware.

Your hair is good. I been cutting and coloring my own hair for years. Taking my lunch to work saves tons of money. Bought my car second hand 7 years ago, it's now a 12 year old car, runs like a champ. Well...a Prius champ. But the OLD cc debt is killing me. Lost my job six years ago had to sell my condo. Now working for over three years have bought another condo, but my credit was ruined because I couldn't pay them. Paid off all the old debt, but bad habits made me rack up the cc cards again! No one will give me a zero interest credit card. I'm paying mostly cash for everything now but I can't catch up. So I've been selling my previous electronic stuff and that has been helping. So much agree with investing in clothes :) Especially it works with warm outwear! As a person who lives in a cold climate (8/12 months it's freezing cold in my country) investing in a high quality outwear saved me so much money. I used to buy a new jacket every season from Zara/H&M and it got so worn at the end of every winter. However, buying a decent and maybe a little bit more expensive outwear lead me to wearing the same jacket for 4 years already and it looks great, like I've just bought it ;) So I agree with you on this 100%!
Im so glad you touched on physical appearance a bit, I was just debating that with myself (im not sloppy but i started tailoring my clothes, taking care of my face, whiting my teeth) since I'm a waiter at a fine dining steak house and I noticed I went from making $200 a night to about $300-$400 a night in tips for the same work. To the health insurance in Europe: I live in the Czech Republic and everyone has a health insurance. It is compulsory, if you are too poor to have one, the goverment pays fro you. Also education is free for everybody. I think that in most countries in Europe it is the same.
@@littlebird8346 :D :D :D No, the quality of life is better then in USA (the UK study last year). I think that USA has a huge propaganda. I was there with my husband like four years ago and I was shocked to see how people are working sooo hard, having little time for their lives not realizing that they are half-slaves and sometimes can t affort a health insurance - such a basic thing. That is why the comment about Europe from Mr. O Brien seemed so funny to me :D I can t imagine paying for dentist or any kind of doctor or education or seeing people homeless if it is not directly their choice
Air drying is also better for longevity of your clothes. Definitely a good investment if the time is not an issue. Or even air drying only the bigger items will help you save.

Regarding your education point. Actually, a degree acts as a signal, you are not paying thousands for education and human capital, that money is for you to have a signal for employers that shows them you are capable of going through difficult stuff that the majority of people are not willing/able to go through. Great video Nate, thanks for sharing!

I used to not cut my hair for 3 years. But I live in a tropical climate so having a very long hair is too hot and uncomfortable. That's why I tried to cut my hair and messed it up big-time. It was too short that the only remedy that I have was to make it bald. Now, I'm used to being bald. Definitely, saves me in haircut and a lot of time in the bathroom.
Cassandra When our son was 4 he begged us to buzz his hair.. so my wife cut it almost bald.. then he hated it, so I let my wife shave mine to almost bald (people were freaked out at work, lol) to show him it was ok.. I ended up liking it, but he said he wanted my hair back. Lol

To the health insurance in Europe: I live in the Czech Republic and everyone has a health insurance. It is compulsory, if you are too poor to have one, the goverment pays fro you. Also education is free for everybody. I think that in most countries in Europe it is the same.
Isn't everyone poor in Czech republic
@@littlebird8346 lmao
2:50 same. I don't understand people that buy bottles of water
Michael It’s “convenient” but sooooo bad environmentally! Just throwing money down the drain.
Thanks for pumping out great content and tips! This channel serves as an inspiration.
I agree he is always bringing value to us
@@JazminBautista I'm checking out your channel! Great content and thumbnails to match! Seeing you work so hard is continuing to inspiring me.
@@JustFrugalMe Thank you I appreciate it :)
Current haircut looks great! Worth it.
I cut my own hair too, from high school to my mid 20s. Now I pay the big bucks.
Women get fewer haircuts but seem to pay wayyyy more... at the end of the year I think men and women pay about the same
Ty NATE!
French press tastes so great, nice cheap cheap decadent treat.
Ross has them for $8-$12 at times.
I don’t buy expensive coffee because mine is so much better. Thanks to TH-cam that is.
I think I am going to pick one up
All the big spenders out there need to start ripping a page from your book Nate👌
Michael Bordenaro We all have to learn from the master 🙌
Saving money with hobbies was a great idea!
I've been biking lately as my hobby at it's super fun. Got my bike for $150 off Craigslist.
Exercise and fun all in one
biking is the BEST :)
Biking is super awesome. Especially in a year-round warm areas
Just basically just things that improve your quality of life and that you will actually use/enjoy!
Brilliant idea to not compromise on personal appetence ... should b difference in frugality and being a dull miser ...!
*Nate O’Brians financial minimalist video influenced Graham Stephen to make them*
This guy is making big moves
:) only putting out high quality vids from this point forward
You are doing the right thing, so smart, I almost do things like you shared, but I m much older than you, thank you .
*Nate going in with the big topics recently. You’re killing it dude!!! Keep it up*
Just getting started
Regarding your education point. Actually, a degree acts as a signal, you are not paying thousands for education and human capital, that money is for you to have a signal for employers that shows them you are capable of going through difficult stuff that the majority of people are not willing/able to go through. Great video Nate, thanks for sharing!
that sounds kind of post hoc to me
Im selling some stuff too before I move, just want to declutter as much as I can.
A.Lyfestile Nows the best time to switching to a minimalist! Haha
RealLife Money - Weekly Financial Videos i’ve been doing this type of lifestyle before it trends. Unfortunately earlier this year i got offtrack experimenting stuff. I should be on track soon and jump in on the scene while it’s still hot.
A.Lyfestile You got it in your blood so I believe in you! Haha
Doing same
The drying rack will also help your clothes last longer.
He went from $2 tshirt to $10 one. I have to re-evaluate my spending budget 😢.
$2 t-shirt? Thrift shop? $10 is pretty cheap.
I appreciate all the financial information you give in your videos. Most of the information were never taught to us in school.
Thanks Martin!
Its so true there are some hobbies i can think of that cost thousands of dollars (over time) mainly like card collecting games or mmo style games that dont have any real benifit
Exodarion Very true, some hobbies can get pricey. A good hobby is if you could also get paid for it while doing it 😁👍
Great advice Nate, thanks
We’ve saved so much money with my wife cutting my hair over the years :)
Haha it does save money but I'm not very skilled at it
I used to not cut my hair for 3 years.
Lol
@@GenExDividendInvestor haha. That would be the initial reaction but if they see it more often they also get used to it. Though I'm having a haircut within 8 months or a year so I usually went to having a hair for months then suddenly not having it again hahaha.
@@GenExDividendInvestor this is litteraly what people do now in the pandemic!
I am a new minimalist. I walk every where, provided it is not more than 2 miles, so I don't need a bike. I love cardio walking. I do not use my car anymore unless the place is definitely far. I never ever cut my own hair. I am getting a trim today 😊. I am shopping for affordable health care right now, and dental because in 3 months I need to get some surgery 😊. I am cleaning up my life and really getting into being a minimalist. I loooove to read so I got Kindle unlimited, which is a gift from husband. I have spent under 400 bucks on writing education, and I am having plenty of writing success and I have also made money teaching writing.
This was exactly what I need right now (says with an $8 pumpkin spice in my hand) But I cut my own hair too haha
$8!!!!!!
@@NateOBrien + nondairy (almond milk) + airport upcharges. Feeling financially guilty haha

It's hard to mess up wearing a black or maroon t shirt - exactly! Simplicity is a wonderful style, my preferred one as well.
new sub, love your channel, would love a wardrobe video!
That’s a great idea! Might be a short video if there are 3 shirts and 2 pants tho 😂
5:45 I use selfserve laundromatt for both washing and drying, and save rent, electricity, gas, water bills
Frugal can be a good description than being a minimalist.
What I do to save for bathroom tissues and help the environment is to cut partially damaged cotton shirts to replace bathroom tissue. After use, put them to laundry and dry. While folding them, I watch valuable videos like Nate's and environment-related videos like sustainable farming.
Based on previous videos I’m just guessing:
*almost nothing*
Hey hey I buy some things!
Lol that was funny
I am doing my final week of purging my house and I am watching your videos for tips. I am a new minimalist.
"I'm not saying I have the best hair" says the person with the best hair 🙈
I just realise I have another tip. I bought few things as refurbished. It works as new. have few year garantee and most lot cheaper and than the money saved can spend on other important things. Can do more with the same budget. ( it was a laptop and smartphone)
“Treasure hunting”....I’ve always thought it’d be cool to go on an underwater expedition like Jacques Cousteau! ☺️And yes, I totally agree, time is valuable-so we should invest in evolving (our mind, body & soul) 🙌 By the way, When I reached the end & realized you hadn’t mentioned your age...👀 I nearly choked on my geriatric vitamins! 😂 j/k It seems like that “young” life is giving you everything a guy your age could wish for. More power to you Nate! Personally, I’ve been feeling the pull towards a different kind of excitement, but I truly respect where you’re at. I suppose we’re all on our own type of beautiful adventure. 😌🙌💛 Interesting video though Nate...or should I formally say...🎩🧐 “Great video, my good, kind sir.” 😇
Hey thanks Lisa! Always apprecaite the support!
Lucky to find this guy here on youtube! Looking forward to more of these kind of videos. It motivates me a lot :)
We need to see the pictures of those haircuts 😂
my "spare" money goes into video games that I keep (if theyre my favourites and if rare), play and flip or resell. its good fun and makes me money
Ayyyyyy when the Great Graham Stephen comments on your video, achievement unlocked, Mr. Nate 😎
A video on your back story would be interesting. Such as how you were brought up, what motivated you to be financially conservative at such an early age...
You have really good hair!!

Hi Nate,
I wanna give a little suggestion, it must be better if you mention one by one then write down in the screen, so we as a reader can write and understand your explanation. Thank you 😊
Thank you for the ideas. By the way, you have great hair, wish mine was like yours. Mine is thinning and receding (I'm in my 40s).
Claudio Rodriguez Hair is just clutter anyway, that’s real minimalism 😜
@@RealLifeMoney Ha! Good call.
Great Info Nate will try to be a minimalist tx
Oh yeah, & as The Great Chanel stated " Fashion Changes, Style remains..
Nate: talking about buying the drying rack for the washing to save money.
Me screaming at the screen: that’s what people normally do. It’s nothing out of ordinary.
I always start your videos with the mindset of "oh im just gonna find the list in the comments then move on to save time" but then you always manage to suck me into watching the entire thing, though, at least I watch at 1.5x - 2x speed?
Do you use dishes? I am a minimalist purging my kitchen. I use now only the two plates and bone China bowl, I got from my mom's house when she died. I have two piece plastic containers I use. I am really struggling trying to get my husband to purge the kitchen. He won't let go of all the access dishes...etc.
I stay single and save %80 of my money 😁
So true 😂
Good one Freddy
