    APPLICATION QUESTIONS:
    1) Do you feel like a “cultural exile” and “outsider”? In what ways?
    2) When should Christians “submit to” and “honour” influences that come from outside the Christian community? When should they resist them? What wisdom can 1 Peter offer as we grapple with these questions?
    3) Pressure to compromise can also come from within the Christian community. How do 2 Peter and Jude help us discern when this is happening?

Peter likely wrote from Babylon, Egypt. This whole Rome=Babylon has very weak evidence.

Thank you for your comment. As you mentioned, there was a small location in Egypt in the first century known as Babylon, and it is a possible location of Peter. However, we went with Rome as it seems to have a greater scholarly body of support behind it. Some of the reasons being, that the Egyptian Babylon seemed to be a Roman military outpost and thus an unlikely place for a church, there are no early traditions linking Peter with Egypt, and a long-standing interpretation in church history of this Babylon being a veiled reference to Rome. That said, it is not out of the realm of possibility that Peter was in fact in Egyptian Babylon. In any case, the message of the book of 1 Peter remains clear to us today. Blessings!

@@TheBibleEffect thanks for your response. Love your content. I'd like to point out that Mark is actually the one attributed to bringing the gospel to the Egyptians (or Alexandrians). In that same verse that mentions Babylon, Peter states "She who is in Babylon, elect together with you greets you; and so does Mark my son." Church traditions hold that Mark brought the gospel to Egypt around AD 60-62 (around the time 1 Peter is dated), and that he later went back to the west, including visit(s) to Rome where Peter was martyred later the same decade. Rome started to be referred to Babylon more so after the atrocities with Nero and the Jewish-Roman wars.

@@MinaDKSBMSB Yes, there is a very old tradition that places Mark in Egypt, including his martyrdom. That, alongside the tradition that links Peter with Mark (and his reference in 1 Peter 5:13), would open the possibility of Peter's Babylon reference to be Egypt. Thank you for your comment and adding this viewpoint!
