Best version of Stranger. Imo 10/9/89 Hampton, Va when they billed themselves as The Warlocks. Those two shows had numerous breakouts. Help on the Way/ Slipknot, which had been gone for about five years. Box of Rain. Death Don't have no Mercy which hadn't been played since, what, the sixties? Attics of my Life as well if I remember correctly. Any corrections to the above are welcome.
Stranger is from Go to Heaven which came out in 1980. The album version is decidedly different and is very 80'sish. I always thought it was a great show opener. "Gonna be a long, long crazy, crazy night! The song always remained pretty constant, but some versions are more ferocious, and some are a lot tighter than others. Mickey is always a wild card. When he was locked-in, it was awesome. Other times, it kind of sounds like sneakers tumbling around in a dryer. That's why we love them. Warts and all!
I like the stranger on “without a net” and they cleaned up the mix on that whole album…great entry point for people to listen to live dead for the first few times
Pretty standard Stranger as far as the song goes. Nothing is standing out as not ordinary. By that I'm not knocking this version at all, just saying it's not really different from other performances.
Thanks for continuing to react to the Dead!
Jerry echoing the “roll away” is wonderful- that started in ‘79-80.

Standard late 80s power jam funk
For real.

Reaction videos to dead recordings is not ok. Please don't do this
I don't understand.
