I actually cried when I listened to the version! Montserrat's version of this aria truly encapsulates the heartbrokeness, devastation, outrage and fear that Micaela feels in that scene! Absolutely wonderful! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🌌🌌🥺🥺🥺😭😭🥺😭😭
La voce limpida di Caballe' dà vita a una splendida Micaela, che deve accentuare il suo carattere femmineo e tenero per opporsi idealmente alla disinvoltura di Carmen.
That is my favorite Callas recording - I think she is a mezzo. I have recordings where she misses the High Cs and it is in several different operas. In Carmen, she is not screeching out of her range.
I've always liked Ileana Cotrubas version of this Aria. the purest form of lyric soprano. impeccable diction, a very beautiful top voice with a childlike quality of Innocence.CABALLE,S voice is too heavy for this particular aria as much as I love her etc. Cotrubas. once again listen to the cotrubas version with Teresa Berganza singing Carmen. and the first Act Cotrubas duet with Placido Domingo is so beautiful so innocent Michaela. Domingo is not my favorite tenor for this role I prefer Carreras.. excuse me for my typos I use the microphone when I comment. listen to that version with Cotrubas. and I think many of you were really enjoy it.. thank you all take care.🌹👱😊🎼🇬🇧🇷🇺🇮🇹🇪🇸🇫🇷🇺🇸🇨🇳🇩🇪🇯🇵 Sincerely Arnold Bourbon Amaral
Well, you can't go wrong with Montserrat Caballe. This is unquestionably one of the most beautiful arias for soprano in all of opera. Interesting that it belongs to the "second fiddle," but this happens sometimes, doesn't it? The second act of "La Boheme" is Musetta's, the penultimate act of "Aida" is Amneris', and, oh yes, while we all love Nessun Dorma, the loveliest aria in "Turandot" is sung by Liu.
@uniqueattack Do you mean this in a good way? I bet you do... but this role is not for any light soprano either, though I think Carmen must have been a MONSTER in other to match without being upstaged by Micaela!
Diese Arie wird schöner von einer lyrischen, sanften, zärtlichen Sopranistin gesungen. Es ist natürlich immer ein Genuss, Montserrat Caballe zuzuhören. Aber diese Rolle passt nicht zu ihr.
I love Montserrat, but her voice is too heavy for this aria. Her scoops and vocal weight really hinder the accuracy of the French diction and pitch. There are several moments where she is terribly flat. 😩

Con la sua voce meravigliosa la Caballe rende quest'aria una commovente preghiera .
Caballe was superb, her technique was flawless. Her high notes cut thru your soul. Brava!

Concordo pienamente
Impecable Montserrat❤
Unica, inigualable e insuperable
Can you imagine Callas as Carmen and Caballé as Micaela?

I can! 🤩🤩🤩🌌🌌🌌
Callas is not a real mezzo soprano she can’t sing Carmen

My favourite version is Anna Moffo - a more vulnerable tone.

too salome-ish! it needs more sweetness
