Great video. Funny how collectibles that have been worthless for years are making such a huge comeback. Seems to be the graded factor is the reason, just like with comics. Getting that Gem Mint 10 makes that million print run a lot smaller.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out the video (love your channel). Yeah that's what's so interesting about the collectable market, you honestly just never know what's gonna pop off! And totally agree, everybody loves "Gem Mint" ;)
@@jasonw3479 all cards are up. I’ve been looking at mine and checking the centering. I have some strong Gem Mint contenders, but it’s expensive and take a long time to grade. Worries the hype might be down by then
Seems like the rush occurred after Gary Vee released a video saying that Marvel cards were underrated. I think that the market will cool off but I don't think it will totally crash.
Good call, I had that after I made the video and had to investigate. I didn't know who Gary Vee was but like you said he might have had some influence on it.
I gotta say....I watch your videos pretty often and I am so glad someone finally did one on marvel cards...this was my huge part of my nostalgia from when I was a kid and I just got back into it a few years ago so I can finally try to complete my collections....this was way more my jam than collecting comics as it was easier, cheaper and more enjoyable to me as I wasn’t much of a reader...though I do have a ton of comics as well which I have been collecting over the past 10 years and I literally have a high for this now, lol....it definitely warms the heart to know that my card collections are finally getting some praise....LONG LIVE SWAGGLEHAUS!
I would also like to add that...I really do think this will continue to last and grow even stronger for years to come...as long as Disney/Marvel keeps dominating with their epic movies.
hehe, I totally feel you on that. I was super into the cards and probably spent more time reading them than the actual comics when I was a kid. Part of me is happy to see them getting the respect they deserve, but I do think there will be a correction at some point. :P
I ran a Comic book store from the mid 80's to mid 90's and I remember when these cards first came out they were so cool, and people bought them up like crazy, but by the late 90's these cards were practical worthless. It's amazing to see the rebirth if these cards. I used to have some really cool cards, mostly holograms, prisim, and X-MEN cards, had all my stuff in a storage unit. When I was hospitalized for 6 months last year I lost the unit, brings tears to my eyes to see how cards are pricing now. But I still have my life, and had to learn that stuff like that is just that, stuff .
I was heavy into collecting these comic book cards back in the 1990's. I wasn't expecting anything ever happening with them. I will go and look at them. It's been a long time since I've gone through them. Thanks for this video.
I literally just found one of my little white cardboard card boxes and it has Terminator 2 cards and most of series one Marvel in sleeves. I was looking at it the other day.
I’m a 90’s kid. My whole childhood was built around collecting Marvel trading cards. The Marvel Masterpieces were always my favorite. Still. Have. ALL. Of. Them!
Me too! I traded a couple of my dad's old comics(handed down) to get a box of the Fleer Flair Marvel Masterpieces box. Still have them. Complete Holofoils & Powerblasts. Loved the 90's
Weird how Series 1 goes up in value. I find those cards to be very basic. Yet the amazing hand painted artwork of Skyboxes Marvel Masterpieces value hasn't budged in 30 years. The collector's market can be ass backwards at times.
I disagree. Series 1 had a lot of off center cards printed and many people just threw their cards in shoe boxes and or handled them a lot etc. PSA 10's will hold for some time no doubt
This makes a lot of sense. Even though this was the juke wax era, many of these cards were collected by kids who didn't take care of them. Also Marvel is a huge brand right now with the movies and TV shows! It is surprising that it's taken this long to take off!
Agreed. Ive seen so many old videos of marvel card collections (valuable ones too) and the way the cards are handled/stored...Let's just say a sports card collector would have a heart attack!
haha, good points by both of you guys. Def seems like the MCU is having a huge effect all over the collectable market. And yeah those PSA 10's might actually be hard to come by.
Great video! I found your video from Gem Mint. The card market is finally hitting its stride from all of the MCU buzz as well as people selling what they have to make money during the pandemic. I actually saw a Deadpool card (from X-Force #1) sell for $350 raw! I have a number of these cards and I plan on selling a few raw to enable me to start grading those cards as well as my old baseball/basketball cards.
I loved the detailed info on the backs of the cards with the characters' power graphs and the "Did you know" sections. Recent Marvel Cards are hot too with original sketches and signatures 👍
I just watched this video and had to laugh, great video by the way. I just turned 50 years old and remember collecting these cards in High School in 1990, then recently while I was moving came across 5 complete sets organized in a box with holograms in all. I'm glad they didn't get lost after all these years.
Wow! I learned something new today, never knew they made these cards, maybe because I’m older and was not young enough to collect or be aware that marvel produced them!!! Great show again
Thanks for checking out the video! Yeah from what I can tell these were only really popular among the 80's/90's kids. So make sense that you would have overlooked them.
Marvel's first cards series came out in 1966 from Donruss. Topps in 1967, 1974 and 1975 made sticker sets. All of these sets are rarer and older than the Impel sets. Yet somehow the Impel set has become more expensive. Craziness..
Thats an easy one. The 66-75s were collected in SECRET by fans. No media, no stores selling out in 1990. The Impel cards were already hot in the 1990s, they were all over the news. So as the 2000s rolled around those of us that collected the pre impel stuff forgot about them. The kids that collected impel have a fond memory of them, so they're always in thier thoughts. Hence the crazy 2021 highs.
I bought the series 3 in 92 a pack at a time till I completed the set and have had them ever since. The hologram cards were the only ones that had any value and that was not much till this happened. Think Ill just keep my set no matter how much the cards current value since I have had it forever.
I feel you. I'm so emotionally attached to my cards because they were some of the first stuff I bought as a kid. Hard to figure out what I want to do :P
@@Swagglehaus I still have all the series 1-3 (I think complete sets. I’d have to pull them from storage) as well as the GI Joe series, the death and return of Superman, and the DC comics ones that came out around that time frame. It’s cool to see vids like this. Keep up the great work.
Smart. Hold them. At scale, in the long game you will come out much better. In 15-20 years you should be able to cash-out! I would consider grading the best looking ones, most centered, cleanest surfaces, etc.
Wow...can’t see this lasting. I’d sell em raw and buy comic book grails before they crash in price. I didn’t keep any of mine. Only one I could find was a fleer 1995 Batman promo card for the DC versus Marvel comics mini series. Sadly only worth a couple bucks but worth a good smile down memory lane.
Dude, this is super exciting. A big set I think is going to blow up is the 1995 marvel metal set, gotta get the silver chasers and the bigger prints. I have all these old sets and holograms, so exited!!
@@Swagglehaus The metal set is definitely for completionists, still working on finishing my silver chasers, but they sure do look good. Plus Gem Mint gave you a shout out on his latest vid :).
So crazy! If you really look at it this all started with The Last Dance. I do some sports card investing on the side and it has become an alternative to stock trading. They have rookie card investment software, market tools, alternative grading companies coming to surface, etc. Large investor groups are creating investment funds and buying up rare or modern valuable sports cards. Also, on a personal level everyone's values are changing and in challenging times our collective inner child needs nurturing. I've had more fun looking at these cards and it has brought some joy and nostalgia. Enjoy!
Wow, exciting news if this lasts. I bought the second series and have several holograms. Will have to take a look at them. Also have the small unopened boxes of TMNT and Batman from the 1980s. Curious to see how much they are worth.
Great video. 3 years ago I was cleaning out my closet and found my binder of Marvel cards. I had a whole set......or so I thought. Much to my horror, I noticed I had a damaged Wolverine card and even worse? No set of the 5 hologram cards! I quickly remembered that I traded the hologram cards for some key comics back in the day. As for the damaged Wolverine card, I don't know how that happened. The next day I went on eBay and was able to score the set of hologram cards for $30.00 and the Wolverine card for $3.00! Glad I was get them before this Marvel Comic Card fever!
@@Swagglehaus there not sadly it's kinda bad but other wise I did my part in keeping them perfect and complete card company's machines suck balls lol still to this day so unless they do it on purpose...
Bought a sealed box series 1,2,3 when infinity war 2 hit theaters, was gonna open em for fun and nostalgia but fuck all that these bad boys gettin sold !
I have 90,91,92 sets as well, had to collect them all the old school way in packs and trading with friends. I know most people just threw their cards right out after years of hanging on to them. Great video
You're spot on with the card collectors that might want them. I am not that big into comics, but I love collecting cards. I have some of these old Marvel cards and will likely be submitting the key ones to PSA now. Even if the market crashes before I can sell them, I'd still like to have them in my collection.
I just stumbled across this video. Had no idea these had value. Told my son and he brought down a stack of them in binder pages. You are absolutely correct about the difficulty of finding cards that could be Gem Mint. But we’ll go through them anyway. You never know.
These marvel cards were very popular during the non sports card boom of the 1990's mainly because they all had original art by the comics artists themselves. Remember the Jim Lee X-men cards from about the same time ? All original art by Jim Lee specifically for the card set and very awesome. Very popular until they were not by the mid 1990's. Good to see that people are rediscovering them again. I should dig mine out again. Expensive or not, they are cool to have.
Thanks for the video. My jaw is on the floor. As a student of economics, it is intriguing to me how a sudden demand like this comes to fruition. I have some Spiderman cards and Flair Marvel cards from that era (sadly no Impel) that I'll have to resurrect.
Glad I came across this.. I have quite a few 91-92 marvel cards not graded though..im going to review them and possibly get them graded..hope I didn't rough them but they have been untouched since the nineties..wish me luck
Swag you’re killing me. Love love the video but you’re killing me lol. These cards are the reason I got into comic books back when they first released And for the past three years I’ve been telling myself I want to buy a box of series one through three for myself on open and now you’re telling me that these boxes have gone out of my price range right now 😭😭😭. I wish I still had my originals.
Oh my bad my bad! haha. Lets just see if the market cools off or maybe all those people who had unopened boxes are gonna come out of the woodwork and prices will start to go down. I would actually check card collectable stores, I feel like maybe those owners don't know whats going on in the market. :D
Great info, I have a couple of sets, bunch of extra's, a few of the holgrams and other years like Fleer Ultra. Didn't even know they were going up. Sweet!
the graded prices being nuts. But for people cant get the graded cards they may start to look towards upgraded. Nostalgia is powerful thing and right now I think everyone wants to remember happier times
TH-cam recommended something good! Glad I found your channel. I sold a few series 2 & 3 sets a few months back and was surprised at the selling price. I have series 1-4 and cannot see sending any of the cards in to be graded. I have submitted comics to CGC and did well, but I do not have the confidence and experience with trading cards to risk the possible letdown of getting even high 9s for that cost of grading. Maybe when the market settles and we see the values of 9.8, 9.6, etc. to make that leap when they don't hit gem mint.
Thanks so much for checking it out. Glad you like it. That sounds like a good approach, its def NOT cheap to grade the cards. I too am gonna see how everything shakes out.
Damnit! I could’ve bought a sealed box locally at my LCS for $50 a couple months ago. I can’t remember seeing them last time I went over there. I gotta make a trip tomorrow to see! 🤞🏼Thanks for the content! 👍🏼
@@Swagglehaus I went back and they sold the box but I did find a complete set of 1992 Marvel Masterpiece and 1993 Marvel Universe in sleeves...I looked at them closely and they look like they’re in really nice condition, clean front/back, sharp edges...I took a chance and bought them a total of $100...I’m gonna comb through them again more closely and submit some to PSA! 🤞🏼
Wow, I have these cards in my storage unit. I have my Marvels in a binder and a giant box of doubles etc of those, Masters, and DC stuff. A few holes too. I'm sure the markets cooled, but I better dig them up.
I have so many collections from the 90's. I love collecting and stumbled upon your vid. I knew modern cards were insane on pricing but not the original Impel sets. WOW!
Well this made my day. I'm more of a basketball card collector but I also have a STASH of these marvel cards LOL I'm floored by the fact that they're worth something now. Looks like those "Wizards" magazines were worth looking into after all. I knew my countless number of spidermans and wolverines were underrated
I can't say I am surprised because I am a collector of Comics, Cards and Baseball and Basketball and others. The pandemic is making a lot of ppl collectors again and these cards are really cool! I put together a Marvel Masterpieces Series 1 set along with the Spectra Cards and wonder if those cards in a PSA 10 slab would fetch a high premium as well? I don't know if I have these first Marvel cards but I do have Ultra Fleer X-men cards and Marvel 2099 sets as well.
Very cool! Yeah I've gotten a bunch of messages from sports cards collectors and they're telling me that a lot of the hardcore people in that scene are looking at Marvel cards as the "next big thing" or "untapped potential"...so we'll see what happens.
What up swagg !! I think as long as Marvel keep making movies 🎥 The characters are becoming more popular. Movies 🎥make the business and animated movies as well and shows. As long as their going strong 💪🙌everything Marvel is hot 🔥even the cards we grew up collecting like the Marvel universe series and the master pieces and upper decks and fleer and flair sooo many back in the early 1990s thank God some of us still have them and took care of them.
Well, PSA will make a lot of money. I opened a box of 1992 marvel masterpieces a year or so ago, completed the set with the special cards too. Glad I didn't wait until now. I think I got the box for 30 bucks and gave away my doubles to a subscriber lol.
I always wondered if I should start collecting marvel cards. Thanks for confirming my answer for me! I always hit the like button. 👍 have a great day friend!
Still have my cards! Gonna go through them tonight and See if I have anything good. I think I have series one, three, Spiderman cards from the early nineties and star wars cards...
I grew up on these cards! I learned so much from the backs and the full page scene art was amazing! The card stock changed when the comics started to be printed on different stock as well.
Wow.. just found my old box of these cards the other day...also have a full collection of series 1. I think i might have for the series 2 or 3 after as well. I have a ton of extra cards too.. time to take a look at what i have..
I work in a comic store and I just got about 5 of X-Force 1, DeadPool Cards from out the back and there is still lots more boxes of X-force to look into yet. I have never sent a card to be graded before but this time I will.
I have a full set of marvel series 1 and 2, series 2 is missing the holograms. Very excited to hear they may be gaining the appreciation I always felt they deserved. Great video. May get mine graded. The borders look good. Hehehe
I just recovered SO many complete base sets of Marvel, Masterpieces, and X-Men cards for like $30/$40 per set. Really glad I jumped on them when I did because wow.
I don't understand why people are upset or confused over this. It's long overdue. Marvel boxes are still fractions compared to Magic and Pokémon boxes. I think it's still undervalued. Grading and high grade singles cause this price jump.
yeah i was thinking the same thing all last year .its crazy last i looked sets with holos was around 50 on ebay with like 10plues available now 300-500 smh crazy didnt have the money marvel boxes was 125 i wanted to get a few damn missed the boat it will drop tho they made millions now 3000-5000 $..
Yeah but a lot of these cards were opened and handled. Also, when these first came out the quality control wasn’t that great so most were miss cut and the inks weren’t all that great as well.
Yeah it could be that there are some shenanigans going on, but I do think there are a lot of people that are jumping on this market. And it is tough to find those Gem Mints. I think there will be a correction, but will be interesting to watch this play out.
People are getting into flipping as a career, this is driving ps5s, xbx, sneakers, cards, etc...only when nobody is buying to reflip it will end...so it pays to move quick or get caught holding.
I completed my series 3 set not too long ago with the purchase of the Wolverine card. I have some series 1 and 2 lying around somewhere, but I never had the chance to collect too many of them. I just remember they were hard to find even back in the day.
I got same sets almost complete. Spiderman hologram for the 90s set. I also have other sets from 90s. I need to go threw them, and sell. They all are stored in cases and books. For sure great video!
I had to have a look in my stuff and found I still had some of these cards. Cards were part of that 90s comics speculator boom too. Sports, comic books, movies, et al.
Cool video. I think I have a few of the series one cards, but I still have my complete set of series 2 and 3 with holograms. I also have the Marvel Masterpiece.
Makes sense, sports cards are super hot now, and Marvel movies are popular, so these older marvel cards are the perfect mix. I have a lot of these somewhere, but I am sure all banged up so I doubt they are worth much. I collected them more for the art back in the day.
@@Swagglehaus Hey man, at first I thought you were joking with me. Yeah, you can't go to a Walmart ot Target and get basketball cards for kids because all the boxes are sold out. It's like investing into stocks.
@@JPannafino totally not joking :P. I don't know anything about the sports card market so wasn't sure what the state of it was. Cool to hear that its going up!
Don’t forget , this is junk wax era. There are tons of these cards, and many will be sitting at psa for grading. When everything comes back together , the supply will exceed demand
I believe real demand is not even here yet. Those right now buying this sealed boxes out on ebay are all flippers. I also think its very hard to get a 9 or 10 grade on them. even if your totally on point and the market drops 70% the prices are still very good in my opinion. Only time will tell
Yeah I'm sure there will be a massive correction in a few months, but who knows how this all shakes out. I will def be following the story in the coming months :)
Even cards fresh out of packs it's extremely difficult to get a PSA 9 or 10 candidate. Quality control was bad in Series 1. Good luck finding mint holograms too.
I find a lot of things are going up rn. Comics, video games, Pokémon cards, etc. People with extra cash are just funnelling money into anything “collectible” it seems. I think these cards are still really cool, but I think a lot of markets will cool off the next year.
I bought sealed boxes of Series 1 and 2 (among others) a few years ago for like $30 a box. I opened them and was giving packs of cards to my son in return for him cleaning his room. Those were some expensive room cleanings in retrospect. I still have about 20 packs of each still unopened though.
Thanks for such an interesting video! I still have series 1-3 in the plastic card sleeves just like you. These were the things that first got me into comic book collecting.
I still have some but not entirely all of my original series 1, 2, 3 and 4 Marvel universe series cards and some of the X-Men 'From Then Til Now' and a Psylock card which is my all time favorite X-Men card. With some of the cards s i have since '90, '91, '92 and '93 since junior high school and high school i'd definitely would send my 30 year old Marvel universe series cards to PSA to get graded knowingly of course my old cards are low grade and a bit beat up but as humble as i'am i wouldn't mind the low grade it deserves at all, because of how nostalgia and rare yet raw to i have had for so many years that it's rather a classic with memorable history behind it. That's how i seriously got into Marvel comics by knowing each of the characters origins, history and bios but most importantly personally how i was able to be a good artist by drawing some of the cool characters i've drawn from the Marvel series cards too which back i was really serious about especially when it came to drawings, wow. But yeah with my old cards i'll get them graded and maybe purchase newer Marvel series 1 through 4 universe cards to have and to keep in my personal collection and leave them as raw as they are to be stored and to be taken good care of. But the prices on these Marvel universe series cards honestly are a bit much which is crazy no doubt about that, only option there is really is to purchase one cards for $1.00 dollar and that's not including for shipping either which is too crazy lol in my opinion. Nice review.
GREAT VIDEO!!! Great explanation!!! I’m older so it’s out of my experience...... now I understand AND I think its great!! Nostalgia is powerful and fun..... and I’ll never have a need for them (which is fine with me)
Time will only tell how the supply and demand balances out after the rush to grade...I do have a lot of faith in the strength of this hobby, especially as the government continues to prop up the economy with stimulus bills. This is a perfect time for the adage “you don’t have to have good cards, just play them well” I’d sell...
OMG 😲 I'm sitting on Marvel Impel series 3! Thank you for this video I didn't know. I bought a box in the early 90's and got 4 out of the 5 holograms that there are!
I think you’re right tho. These have probably been undervalued but they just don’t have the historical significance and impact that comics do so I don’t think it will last
Got a chance to check out your videos! Awesome stuff, excited to see what your cards come back as. I'm totally a rookie when it comes to sending stuff into PSA but I might have to see if I have anything that looks like a 10.
I can't believe we both have the full Marvel Series 1 and in the same blue binder!! Wow...I can't wait to find these in my old room ....I think they must be been protected and untouched (good point about the alignments tho'...)
I also have my cards... somewhere. May even have unopened boxes. Great, now I have to look for everything. Maybe I'll update this post once I unearth everything.
Just subscribed after watching this great video and commentary. Excellent points regarding time and investment in grading versus return. If you originally bought the cards from a perspective of true excitement and nostalgia, then hold on to them as long as you can.
I don’t know what to think of this myself. Sometime around 2010 I decided to get a wizard comic book guide to see the value of my comic cards. I always felt Marvel comic cards were highly underrated and DC comic cards even more so. I’m a musician collecting synthesizers that hold value better. I own books that are out of print from Folio Society and other publishers. No way should anyone consider eBay as a value guide considering the scalpers and scandalous sellers with nearly 4X marked up prices. They gain massive profit & more than they should. eBay does take 12% but still. About to cancel my sale on eBay for only $100 for a fair amount of cards & start calling as many comic shops as I can to get the truth.
Great video! I actually come from the sports card collecting side of things. I feel that the recent boom in marvel cards is due to all the “sports card investors” looking for the next big thing - much like how Pokémon exploded. I feel that this is going to be short lived and just like you alluded to, once the market gets flooded with graded cards I think there will be a pullback and they won’t be selling for these crazy prices. And as you said even out of the box, the cards can be off-centered and really affect the grade so gem mint 10 cards will be hard to get. I feel that the real value is in the actual comics and comic collectors would be right to sell these and use that money to buy the grail comics. Great perspective! I’ve been wanting to jump into comic collecting as it was something I did as a kid, but it feels so overwhelming to me right now!
Thanks for the insight! I don't know too much about the sports card world. But that makes sense if this is the "next big thing." Yeah, comics like every hobby can be a little daunting to get back into, but its a lot of fun! :D. I try to make my videos pretty accessible to people, so maybe they can help.
Thank you for this! I have a ton of those cards in sleeves. Series 1 in amazing condition. I think I have those holograms too. Plus I have a couple of series of X-Men cards with a ton of holograms. I truly believe I have my Silver Surfer hologram too.
Yes there were a lot of these cards printed, but guess what, most of these were opened and handled which degraded there condition. Thanks for the video.
Love how a year later and the market for these cards are still going high. I’m glad I still one unopened box each of series 1 through 4. Plus I have a PSA 10 of Stan Lee trading card awhile ago. These are still awesome and having a PSA 10 of Stan Lee feels like a holy grail compared to having with comics.
It's damn near impossible to get a gem mint. Like you said a little more then a dozen of each in circulation. Most cards fresh out the pack come out an 8 right from the factory. Psa is more critical then cgc
WoW! I have the 1992 X-men card all drawn by Jim Lee, Full set minus one hologram and the full set of series 3 marvel card all in a folder. I also have many other random comic and pokemon cards.
I just showed my kids my collection and they were shocked. I have pretty much every set including the Marvel Masterpieces by Fleer. There was also DC comics set made back then too. Look those up, so cool.
i knew a guy who had a misprint Namor card and thought he was going to retire off it, because in stamps and coins misprints can make it more rare and valuable, it's funny to find that it actually makes it less valuable. I have all the holograms for that first 1990 series, I don't see a difference between my spiderman in the symbiote costume and the one you showed, but i do see on some cards what you mention about being off center and such.
Insane prices back then. These cards are awesome, but just not near rare enough to justify the prices. Early 90s is a junk wax era for so many trading cards. You can find tons and tons of complete sets of Impel Marvel for cheap still.
This is where I got most of my Marvel knowledge from when I was younger. My dad would collect sports cards and I was into these. The perfect combo. lol
@@Swagglehaus swaggle, you never had any of the metal ones? What you collecting at the time then? If I recall correctly, I think it was around 94-95 that the Fleer metal line came out. They were super thick though.
"Playing, using the backs"? Uh how? Like the power level rankings and stuff? Well that's cute. ✌ my brother and I played just fine with TMNT figures as well. But I think that's where my hardcore collector spirit was born with that toyline back in the late 80s.
Wow, I still have full sets of MU 1-3, double or triple of all the holograms, promo cards, etc. Full sets of the Marvel Masterworks, with the holograms, all those Jim Lee X-men cars with 10 autographs, including on a couple of the holograms---at least 2 shoeboxes full of doubles of all of those.........I'm buying a helicopter after I get them all graded, haha. But on a serious note just given the number of cards I have I would have to have at least a few 10's. The holograms would be much harder to find because I remember those had scratches on them no matter how careful you were opening those packs. One of the local comic conventions there was a guy that was selling unopened packs of Series 1 for $1 a piece as recently as last summer. Whoops. He went thru boxes of them he said because people were buying them like crazy because they remembered having them as kids and they were now with their kids, and at a buck a pack, they couldn't resist. He told me he was buying sealed boxes of the cards off ebay for $20. I think the people that are buying these cards for these crazy prices are going to regret that investment. The sellers won't be good for them to make that $$$$$ before the market gets saturated when all the graded cards start hitting circulation. Interesting video though.
Right now I'm collecting chibi coins, they are 1oz silver coins from the new zealand mint and are $100 each to buy new with a mintage of 2000 for each character but graded can fetch $350 each even new...I see that as a high performer in the future with Star Wars, DC comics,Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings. They are just over 20 characters so far out but maybe another 20 to come.
It's not the "print alignment"... it's the way the cards were cut. A misprint is when you have a Spider-Man card with Aunt May's stats on the back. However, the card you showed was printed correctly... it was just cut badly.
Haha thanks! Yeah its a mad rush to get them graded, I'm hearing people saying its gonna take up to 6 months! I also think PSA is going to grade SUPER harsh with the influx of cards.
I full sets of a lot of these. The price of $50 to grade 1 card is crazy though with an unknown future market, that could make the cost outweigh the worth of the card.
Great video. Funny how collectibles that have been worthless for years are making such a huge comeback. Seems to be the graded factor is the reason, just like with comics. Getting that Gem Mint 10 makes that million print run a lot smaller.

Thanks for watching! Hope you find them and that they're in good condition. Let me know how the search goes for you.
I literally just found one of my little white cardboard card boxes and it has Terminator 2 cards and most of series one Marvel in sleeves. I was looking at it the other day.
@@stevefratus1546 Good to hear. I hope you have some good ones.
I've found the same withbb cards, ignored my collection for 15 years and now I have multiples of hundreds and thousand dolar value cards.
Yup me too!!!!
Alex Ross and the Kubret bros
Weird how Series 1 goes up in value. I find those cards to be very basic. Yet the amazing hand painted artwork of Skyboxes Marvel Masterpieces value hasn't budged in 30 years. The collector's market can be ass backwards at times.
Those graded card prices are totally insane and it's only a matter of time before this crashes and burns
Agreed and Agreed. haha :P
Also agree!
I disagree. Series 1 had a lot of off center cards printed and many people just threw their cards in shoe boxes and or handled them a lot etc. PSA 10's will hold for some time no doubt
Agreed! That is why you gotta flip your cards now!
That’s the same thing people have been saying about sports and tcg cards forever, and we are yet to see it
This makes a lot of sense.
Pop count for the whole set is under 3000 graded by psa. Think about that rarity
Pffff. There are sealed boxes all over the world. People are dumb.
Yeah me too. I used to LOVE reading that stuff :D
Sadly only worth a couple bucks but worth a good smile down memory lane.
what you mean government just printing another 2 trillion dollars man. You think that money just disappears once its release lol
heh yeah, I've been looking into putting mine on the market. I think I'll probably just sell them raw.
Maybe thats why your a bad investor lol
Dude, this is super exciting. A big set I think is going to blow up is the 1995 marvel metal set, gotta get the silver chasers and the bigger prints. I have all these old sets and holograms, so exited!!
I've seen a few comments of people mentioning the "metal" set...I really need to look those up!
@@Swagglehaus The metal set is definitely for completionists, still working on finishing my silver chasers, but they sure do look good. Plus Gem Mint gave you a shout out on his latest vid :).
I had that Silver Surfer hologram! Not graded but I had one. The only hologram I pulled from the packs I opened back in the 90s.
Woah that's awesome, hopefully you can find it ;)
Wow very cool, I could see the trickle over to TMNT and Batman, both those properties are super popular.
Omg I bought hole set perfect condition when I was teenager still have them perfect in binder!!! Lol
Nice! Hope they're centered well :)
@@Swagglehaus there not sadly it's kinda bad but other wise I did my part in keeping them perfect and complete card company's machines suck balls lol still to this day so unless they do it on purpose...
Bought a sealed box series 1,2,3 when infinity war 2 hit theaters, was gonna open em for fun and nostalgia but fuck all that these bad boys gettin sold !
liar
@@jayx4489 its on ebay now you should buy them bro
I have 90,91,92 sets as well, had to collect them all the old school way in packs and trading with friends. I know most people just threw their cards right out after years of hanging on to them. Great video
You're spot on with the card collectors that might want them. I am not that big into comics, but I love collecting cards. I have some of these old Marvel cards and will likely be submitting the key ones to PSA now. Even if the market crashes before I can sell them, I'd still like to have them in my collection.
So glad I saw this video! I have several unopened boxes of Series 2! Thanks for the video!
Wow nice! Those ones are being sold on eBay for like $800 a pop. Might be worth putting it on the market if you're will to part with them.
I just stumbled across this video. Had no idea these had value. Told my son and he brought down a stack of them in binder pages. You are absolutely correct about the difficulty of finding cards that could be Gem Mint. But we’ll go through them anyway. You never know.
Fingers crossed, hope you find some good ones in your collection!
Another great vid, I believe i have a few in my collection. Very nice card collection and worth the trade off for a grail.
Nice! Hope you can dig the cards out and find some good ones :)
150 a box last March, 5k and climbing as we speak rn 😳
Oh my bad my bad! haha. Lets just see if the market cools off or maybe all those people who had unopened boxes are gonna come out of the woodwork and prices will start to go down. I would actually check card collectable stores, I feel like maybe those owners don't know whats going on in the market. :D
Crazy!
Great info, I have a couple of sets, bunch of extra's, a few of the holgrams and other years like Fleer Ultra. Didn't even know they were going up. Sweet!
Oh nice! Fingers crossed they're all in great condition ;)
the graded prices being nuts.
@9:05 - here in 2022 that same $1,700 black suit spidey just sold for $252 last night on eBay.
Damnit! I could’ve bought a sealed box locally at my LCS for $50 a couple months ago. I can’t remember seeing them last time I went over there. I gotta make a trip tomorrow to see! 🤞🏼Thanks for the content! 👍🏼
Oh man, please tell me they still had it when you went back! :D
great video man earned my sub. crazy how hot the market for these are now, just checked the listings and its insane
Best giveaway ever! haha :P. Yeah this is the Gold Rush and PSA is selling the picks and shovels
@@Swagglehaus top notch analogy
I always wondered if I should start collecting marvel cards. Thanks for confirming my answer for me! I always hit the like button. 👍 have a great day friend!
Hehe, if you do decide to jump into it be sure to tread carefully! This market is crazy :P
Still have my cards! Gonna go through them tonight and See if I have anything good. I think I have series one, three, Spiderman cards from the early nineties and star wars cards...
That’s great man. Good luck! 🤞🏼
Awesome! Hope you found some good ones :D
Those Star Wars cards are blowing up as well! Good luck!!
Hehehe
Ive had a hologram Magneto in a hard snap case since i opened it when i was 10 years old gem mint
@Bobby Z: You were ahead of the game, man!🔥🤝
I just recovered SO many complete base sets of Marvel, Masterpieces, and X-Men cards for like $30/$40 per set.
When prices of comics (or in this case, comic cards) are too good to be true, then you know it's market manipulation.
Yeah I remember having so many of these they'd get in the way. These are not rare at all.
Market manipulation for sure.
People are getting into flipping as a career, this is driving ps5s, xbx, sneakers, cards, etc...only when nobody is buying to reflip it will end...so it pays to move quick or get caught holding.
Wish I kept mine. I had some of those high-value cards you mentioned. Also introduced me to the coolness of Ghost Rider in Series 1 and 2.
I completed my series 3 set not too long ago with the purchase of the Wolverine card. I have some series 1 and 2 lying around somewhere, but I never had the chance to collect too many of them. I just remember they were hard to find even back in the day.
Great video , you explained pretty much everything we need to know , thanks for posting
Smart man, it's always nice to see a collector who's actually on top of their game-"EXCELLENT A+!!!!"
Thanks! :D
Didn't realize the sports card market has trended up. Thanks for the info.
Great vid - insightful. I was a teen in the early 90's and had a bunch of these cards. I just subscribed.
Thanks for checking out the channel! Glad you like the video. :D
Agreed!
Nice! I have a whole binder of these cards. Never can see myself selling them though.
Me neither. Some treasures should be kept.
Thanks for the video, I had no idea. I will probably send in my holograms for grading. And look over my hand set. Thanks again!
Nostalgia is powerful and fun..... and I’ll never have a need for them (which is fine with me)
Thanks! Yeah its really crazy what's going on with it, but I think we can all agree FOMO and Nostalgia is the most powerful drug there is, haha
Time will only tell how the supply and demand balances out after the rush to grade...I do have a lot of faith in the strength of this hobby, especially as the government continues to prop up the economy with stimulus bills. This is a perfect time for the adage “you don’t have to have good cards, just play them well” I’d sell...
For sure! Literally play the cards you got haha!
OMG 😲 I'm sitting on Marvel Impel series 3! Thank you for this video I didn't know. I bought a box in the early 90's and got 4 out of the 5 holograms that there are!
I think you’re right tho. These have probably been undervalued but they just don’t have the historical significance and impact that comics do so I don’t think it will last
Totally agree.
Great vid! Im having such fun going deep into Marvel cards, Ive done some vids on the 90's sets.
Got a chance to check out your videos! Awesome stuff, excited to see what your cards come back as. I'm totally a rookie when it comes to sending stuff into PSA but I might have to see if I have anything that looks like a 10.
@@Swagglehaus thanks man! I’m pretty new too but it’s great fun!

I also have my cards... somewhere. May even have unopened boxes. Great, now I have to look for everything. Maybe I'll update this post once I unearth everything.
Awesome! Fingers crossed that you have them and in good condition :D
Yeah I think you're right, getting Gem Mint 10's is gonna be harder than people think.
Yeah I think you're right. It'll be a lot harder than people expect. And with the influx, I bet PSA is going to be SUPER harsh with grading.
@@Swagglehaus absolutely
yeah people think they will get 1000$ but its rare to get a 10

I just showed my kids my collection and they were shocked. I have pretty much every set including the Marvel Masterpieces by Fleer. There was also DC comics set made back then too. Look those up, so cool.
The first set of Marvel cards I got was a boxed set in 1984 that had the covers of key issues.
I have a set of those, and still have the box
i knew a guy who had a misprint Namor card and thought he was going to retire off it, because in stamps and coins misprints can make it more rare and valuable, it's funny to find that it actually makes it less valuable. I have all the holograms for that first 1990 series, I don't see a difference between my spiderman in the symbiote costume and the one you showed, but i do see on some cards what you mention about being off center and such.
Wow loved this! Thanks for the influx of knowledge!
The perfect combo. lol
Fleer METAL !!! Very neat stuff. ( He's got a GOLD - Mine of stuff - WOAH ! )
Lots of people have mentioned the "metal" cards. I need to check those out!
@@Swagglehaus swaggle, you never had any of the metal ones? What you collecting at the time then? If I recall correctly, I think it was around 94-95 that the Fleer metal line came out. They were super thick though.
When these came out my older brother and I made a game out of playing series 2 using the backs.
Interesting! That sounds kinda fun.
Ha. My cousin and I did as well. Very cool
"Playing, using the backs"? Uh how? Like the power level rankings and stuff? Well that's cute. ✌ my brother and I played just fine with TMNT figures as well. But I think that's where my hardcore collector spirit was born with that toyline back in the late 80s.
Your videos are awesome- have you thought about doing a live question and answer session! You have a ton of knowledge
Great job with this one, man! Now I'm pondering if I should send some of mine in too! lol.
Haha thanks! Yeah its a mad rush to get them graded, I'm hearing people saying its gonna take up to 6 months! I also think PSA is going to grade SUPER harsh with the influx of cards.
I've been waiting for the right time to film my "Marvel Card Collection" video - I'm gonna take this as my sign to go for it 😉
Def the time! :D
I have an unopened 1994 Flair Presents The Marvel Universe from 1961- 1993 Inaugural Edition box set!!!
woah nice! Might finally be the time to sell it or crack it open :)
I full sets of a lot of these. The price of $50 to grade 1 card is crazy though with an unknown future market, that could make the cost outweigh the worth of the card.
If you get your cards graded through a large volume sports card breaker, you can get the cost as low as $18 per card for a 65 day service.
