Mirage sounds super interesting. The premise sounds really cool! Maybe I will pick it up sometime soon! I picked up the Merciful Crow a while back but have never gotten around to reading it. I think it may have to make its way onto my TBR at some point soon. All the Stars and Teeth sounds pretty good! I keep hearing it it like a grownup moana haha and I'm kinda hear for that.
YES to "All the Stars and Teeth"! I absolutely enjoyed it and definitely got "Pirates" vibes, in a good way. I felt like the magic of the world was so well described. There were times I could picture the sea perfectly - the author can paint scenes so well!
omg i'm so excited for you to read the rest of all for the game series! i love those books but it seems they aren't a thing on booktube. i'm glad you liked the first one bcs for most people it's difficult to get through - it must mean that you'll like the other two even more! you'll definitelly have to suspend your disbelief and lean into the whole "drama vibe" though haha

The mortal instruments is the best thing I've ever read from Cassandra Clare for one reason and one reason only: Isabelle Lightwood. My poor neglected Izzy.

You need to read the history of the world in 6 glasses by Tom Standage. It’s a pretty short and easy read. It tells the history of the world through what humans drank during certain time periods and dynasties. It’s very good if that’s what you have been into lately
oh my GOD you should really read Night of the Dragon!!!! it is so much better that shadow of the fox AND should of the sword! I bawled my eyes out so hard but was so cute and badass at the same time and idk i feel like it makes the whole trilogy come together in one magical wonderful thing.
I completely agree with what you said about your experience with White Fragility, a lot of books about race are for white people so it kind of hits very different when minorities read them because its things we have experienced or are already very conscious about. No to say that racism or certain stereotypes don't exist in minorities, but to get to that readership it requires a different approach so I can see how you felt that way reading that book.
I felt totally the same about Odd One Out, I really liked it but I think I would have liked it a lot more if it had all been from Jupiter's pov, with maybe a chapter here and there from the other perspectives. I can see why she wrote it from all 3 povs, but I didn't think it was needed. And I totally agree that the guy's pov was kinda cringy 😂
I gave All the Stars and Teeth just two stars and I think it’s so interesting to hear you giving it praise when I really barely saw any redeeming qualities
oops sorry, I responded to this earlier but I guess it never sent? But what I basically is that it's more of a blanket statement. Obviously, not all parents will have these tendencies, but in my own experience and many other booktubers/friends of mine, they do. And it's not meant in a cruel/evil racist kind of way, it's referencing micro aggressions more than anything. A lot of the times, when people immigrate to the United States, it can be the first time they're exposed to so many different races and cultures- and they end up finding themselves believing all of the stereotypes about other races. For example, in Frankly in Love, his parents only were friends with Koreans and looked down upon any other asian races as well as other races in general. They joked about other asians having smaller eyes and going so far as to say "Ching Chong" in their jokes. They also believed the stereotype that Mexicans and black people are normally 'thugs' and praise the ones that don't fall under this stereotype. These are obviously extreme examples, in my own experience (my mom is from Argentina) it tends to be much more micro aggressive and coming from a place of misunderstanding. So when I say that immigrant parents tend to be racist, I mean that they tend to be more prone to believing stereotypes and behave in micro aggressive manners because of this.
About odd one out, just letting you know unfortunately that is exactly how teenage boys act towards lesbians they’re “interested” in.....spoken from experience of my own 🙂 I have a lot of stories about those situations 😂 thankfully I can laugh about it now because it’s so RIDICULOUS
