I’m not sure of the exact details of how this all unfolded but, even the remote possibility of this chase ending up near the 401 or any other heavy traffic route, that pursuit should have been called off.
As far as i’m aware Durham Region does have a helicopter, so does the OPP . It’s a tragedy that this chase spilled into the innocent traveling public.
Very rarely do police chase’s end up like they do in a Hollywood movie, people usually die in real life. My heart goes out to the innocent victims involved in this tragedy.

Yeah I agree but then all the hoople heads would be whining saying the police are to ineffective to combat these robbery suspects etc... It was like when that cop told people to leave there keys close to the front door to avoid potentially deadly home invasions. That was good advice, because your car isn't worth you or your family's health and safety but people jump on the comment and it becomes a media sensation. You can't win. I say they need to be way tougher on sentences for robberies etc AND perhaps even more crucial, is actually provide counseling and rehabilitation to people in the corrections systems BEFORE they free them! It's not enough to just lock people up to punish. The corrections system needs to focus on CORRECTING the anti social behaviors that lead to crime!
Aren't there cop cars near every other exit? They could have informed them and those cops could have taken over and been on alert while the helicopter was deployed. An utter failure on the part of the cop.
@@unknown-hi5cf hows that gna help if the guy was literally running away from cops? Makes no sense how that electric sign could have prevented this accident. The cop not getting on the highway could have.
Last night on NBC news in America they did a news piece on wrong way crashes that happen every year in America. That number is somewhere around 400 per year.
The German company Bosch has developed a technology to warn drivers, via cell phone, of wrong way drivers approaching on major highways. It’s something Canada should look at.
This was, in my and probably many other people’s opinion, a reckless pursuit that cost lives by putting excess pressure on the criminals the wrong way down a major highway.
There is a whole lot of explanation that Durham Regional Police are going to have to do in this case. That pursuit should have been immediately called off. Hindsight is 20/20 but there was a severe
disregard for public safety in this case. Maybe if the cops backed off, the criminals would have slowed down and had a chance to think about what they were doing.
There has to be a better way.

When I was in prison 8 years ago, I remember people telling me that if ever got chased by police and wanted to them to stop chasing, that I should drive crazily and that would make police stop chasing me. This guy probably thought that too.
Yeah, people don't get that and it's stupid to be honest, but make it a little dangerous they have to call off the pursuit. For years I've watched police chases and if they backed off in some so many lives would be saved.
Tragic. Condolences to the families of those who passed. Simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Accidents unfortunately do happen. Yet most of us still will take our lives for granted

@barthalomeowthegreat8470 not pursuing that suspect could have prevented this. The cop was chasing wrong way on the hiway. There's helicopters and cameras everywhere. Those people would have been caught just like most people running from police have been in Toronto and area for years. Its only been 1 month since they approved 4 more helicopters in Toronto.
Oh may God this is terrible on infant baby died a whole family am so sad for everyone that's involve ..the police are doing there job but should know when not to pursue a risky situation so so sad 😢

Remember the "car chase" in Mississauga where the suspect "got away" and eventually went home and parked? Yea they had the helicopter on him the whole time and just showed up at his house

So many people in jail have no friends or family. 90% of convictions in Ontario are plea deals. Alot of people are taking deals to get out of jail. When was the last time you were locked up? NEVER. It's easy to tell through you language without knowing who you are.
This is why every city needs more police presence!!! We need more police patrolling local places and leave highway patrol for OPP. Not enough officers on the street patrolling.

Cops should have called off the chase before it got to the point that it did. Protocol is more important than a cops adrenaline. Sure they might have gotten away but now there are four people who aren't going home. SIU should charge the cops.

Cops don't know when to become strict or aggressive and when to become silent. I saw many times they are hit by criminals but they still try to become cool and in such case they have to calm but they become super active.
Because if cop does anything to criminal especially if he is drug dealer he will be charged
