The nightclub is dying out because we've all become inward and self obsessed. Its all about image, people who used to go out and have fun/connect with others now just want to look cool and barely crack a smile. Covid just sped up the process. We all are plugged into our phones, social media and reels. Our attention spans cant handle real interactions anymore, because as a whole people are generally awkward, slow and just collectively trying to survive socially. (And that's okay) but now we need such high levels of attention, activity and stimulation to stay engaged. Our dopaminergic systems are absolutely shot, and if we all collectively detoxed from our vices...then maybe there'd be hope for the clubs to revive. I think festivals have become the new "club" experience.

We need to bring it back to the community anyway. Do more block parties, house parties, and local park festivals, skate parties, organize more Sunday brunches and more cultural vibes. Where we’re coming together to celebrate each other. I honestly think this is part of the crime waves in our communities. We’re not as connected as we used to be. Nobody knows each other, we’re not engaging each other like we used to back in the day. Ask yourself now, how many neighbors on your block do you know? How many can you actually hold conversations with? We’re so disconnected from each other. Bring back the community events and parties. It’s not that hard to become a community organizer! It’s very fulfilling because you’re bringing the spiritual vibes back up for your ppl. We need more of this!

Back in the day, the girls were there. Lights, music thumping out the trunk, girls tip toeing looking good, you get in and shorties already on the floor. You head straight to the bar. Back that thang up come on and you get up on shawty and she throwing that thang on you, seeing if you can handle it. I’ve been out the game for a minute (married) but the clubs got that bad?? Not surprised. They call em sections now? You mean VIP? Back in the day, VIP was the big boss move.

This is going to sound crazy. But, in the 90's, there were clubs where you couldn't stand within 15 feet from the dance floor for too long, without getting pulled up to the dance floor by Girls. If she wasn't attractive, after a couple of songs, there were so many chicks dancing, that you could easily slide over to another chick that you wanted to hit up.

The first nail in the coffin was banning smoking in clubs. Before that people would stay all night until the lights came on at four. The later it got the busier it got. But after the smoking ban people would go outside for a cigarette and they might not come back in. This created a shorter rotation of customers which caused DJs to cater to immediate gratification in order to keep people inside. The music got trendier and more focused on quick mixes to appease shorter attention spans. If that wasn’t bad enough cell phones came into being also around that time. There’s a reason there aren’t any clocks or windows in clubs. It’s so you will forget about the outside world and spend money partying. Cell phones have the time and let you talk to people who aren’t there. So that illusion is destroyed. I remember whenever it was daylight savings time in the fall, the manager would always come up to me around 3am and say “ are you ok with playing an extra hour “ and people would stay until basically 5am. That never happened again after cell phones. Then came 2004 when Millennials finally became old enough to go out. That 50 cent song came out that year and all the DJs were complaining to each other that people were obsessed with that song and that they had to play it over and over. I had one friend DJ Omi, who said she would play it back to back until people stopped dancing just so she could get back to DJing. The requests for Britney Spears were endless and were always made by annoying girls who either weren’t even dancing or would take over the dance floor obnoxiously shouting the lyrics with their little girl posse. The millennials turned nightclubs into fucking Karaoke and the spineless promoters and club owners catered to this bridge and tunnel crowd because rents had become outrageous. That’s how it all ended.

@@levelupeezy the latter :) I literally spent just 20€ per night, and I'm a woman, and no men need to spend anything on women here. Us girls just danced in a silly way (no twerking or weird sexualized dancing) and guys had fun around us, too. Bouncers let everyone in and no one causes any trouble, and we don't think a guy is weird just because he talked to us, no matter if he's handsome or not. Drinks are 5~8€/drink. Foreigners are also welcome and everyone speaks English if you can't speak German. Clubs can be reached by foot/public transport so mostly (expensive crazy 50$) parking doesn't exist here when going to a club. The wifi signal is bad down there in the (mostly) underground clubs anyways so posting stuff isn't even possible😂 And we even have toilet paper at toilets so you get to keep your dignity.

I used to work in a fancy night club in Germany until 2018. Even before COVID19 I could observe a steady decline of interest in such venues especially from the younger crowd. The focus shifted primarily towards various bars which offered music, a dancefloor and no entrance fees. These places are always packed and the crowd is very diverse. The only types of clubs which are still attracting a lot of guests here are techno clubs. The more "traditional" form of clubbing with lounges, champagne bottles and showing off is truly archaic nowadays.

We had fun coming of age in our youthful ignorance and were mostly physically present in the moment (if you don't count the intoxicated 🥴😂😂😂)
The only time we thought to whip out phones were for a selfie or group photo here and there or to hook up during the night (plus livestreams didn't exist yet). Tbh I don't miss the club era at all, and I say this as the "Smooth" guy who got plenty #s, girls and turnt up extra hard with my crew back then. I'm older than most of the people here. In the '80s dudes were ready to dance and have fun. Now a lot of men are too cool to dance. God forbid that men dance with each other (they do in all of Asia but not the US/Canada/UK). Groups of women go out looking great and they take a group selfie, send it to each other, and then everyone spends 20 mins silent editing that photo for their personal IG.
There are a lot of interesting people your own age but club people and social clubs are not usually overlapping. You could meet a nice girl who is a volunteer at the dog rescue (caring and compassionate) who runs them (fit) and you wouldn't need to spend a dime. And you could easily have a conversation. But a lot of people won't do that because they are obsessed with social media. They are just lamenting that other people are self-obsessed, too.
And you made a good point. Women are interested in getting attention online but they don't care about actually having a man in their life. A lot of them got tired of being called names like 304 😅 and that they are a 4 out of 10. Fresh and Fit narrative.

Modern young girls are, more and more, acting like weird imitations of any angry, arrogant male, which is beyond NOT sexy to 99% of guys. Gen Z is considered possibly the most overweight and bad hygiene generation yet. This is exactly why I always hung in the underground scene, have been to the best parties where the music played is not on the radio and everyone dances.
Why would I pay so much money to hear music I can listen to on the radio? I want a different experience.

@@levelupeezy I am from Jersey and a Gen Xer. I also DJ, and friends with a lot of amazing DJ’s.
Brooklyn has always been poppin for ravers. I saw Honey Dijon with the Black Madonna a few years ago. Best party ever!!! Dance floor was packed! It was a rooftop party. The best house and tech house music!
Festivals have been a great time as well, camping out for several days with the best music.
Last year I DJd in Times Square for fashion week and played a couple parties in Brooklyn.
Make some friends with Gen X old school ravers who still love the music and you will get invited to the coolest parties.

Bro fax. I just moved from Houston a year ago and the main reason I left because I was spending too much money in the club waking up with just a hangover credit card debt and not even having a good time. It was all in illusion. Best decision I ever made.

I think among the new generation (mine), the club scene is dying but its in exchange for self thrown parties that’s promoted like an Airbnb or loft party. I feel like the cost of everything is driving people to essentially make their own clubs out of these parties and everyone can bring their own drinks, weed, etc. to enjoy themselves. Most parties don’t even cost nothing since you’re bringing your own stuff and if they do cost, it’ll be like 15 dollars max. As for cellphones, I’m ngl, It’s a huge problem. I find myself not using it much nowadays at parties because it’s better to live in the moment than trying to capture everything. I see the issue but recently, I’ve noticed most people don’t use phones much here no more. If anything, the girls are always twerking and dancing on each other but the guys are too scared to go dance with them because of how nowadays, guys can get called out for anything and they’re instantly condemned so most guys, especially young black men, are afraid of the girls freaking out and then saying they got sexually harassed or something like that. That’s really the plight of the club scene as of now from what I see

Agreed. Glad I was in college at this time. Golden era. It was still decent up until 2018. 2019 was workable but started going downhill. covid was the nail in the coffin. you can still have a good time in Houston but you have be at a great club on a big night with a decent artist. you can’t just walk into any club on a Saturday night and expect to have a good time anymore. it CAN be a good time but risk/ reward simply is not there. 2013-2016 a wild night was pretty much guaranteed so it would always be worth it to even pop out for even an hour. no planning required. Dallas tho> Completely different story. It’s still solid out there. Jezebels for days 😂
