PJ Washington is playing meaningful basketball for the first time in his career. He’s embracing the pressure and it seems to fuel him perfectly. The dude is hustling out there every single night. Instantly our best defender by a mile.
So excited to see him blossom into a well known player around the NBA. He’s spectacular

@@HookedonChronics Saying somebody is good defensively in the NBA holds a lot less weight than 20 years ago.
@@ZakSword_TxSno it actually holds more. NBA is skewed towards offense. Being an effective defender in a system designed against you is more impressive. In a more physical game that is geared towards defenders, it’s less impressive. Of course they aren’t scoring as much because you don’t get called for as many fouls.

PJail, the Landlord, Exum, DDJ and Lively and Maxi Kleber are our defensive storm center packages. We can move them around as needed.
PJ has all-star potential and All-defensive team potential. People seem to forget that he's only 25 years old.
Facts 💯
Not all star potential but definitely a perennial 2nd or 3rd defensive team member. Maybe a 1st team once in his career. He needs to replace Luka as the low man on defense. Pj is such a good weak side help defender. Hes also elite on ball but man that weak side help was so refreshing after watching Luka just stand there and do nothing as the low man all season. It’s just hard to scheme a good defense around Luka because if the offense puts Luka in a action he gets lost so you want him in the corner so he can attack passing lanes but you suffer when the initial defender is beat and Luka is the help.
All star is a stretch
None of these guys don’t know that PJ Washington dropped buckets with da hornets, he def has the potential to be an all star but more likely as a reserve just to much talent in the league. But def defensively I can see it, especially if we keep Gafford and DJJ or someone that of his type and hopefully better offensively.

Pj has a body that was built in a lab, his wing span and athleticism makes him special. He can really start growing his game with Dallas, could easily be an all defensive player.
And ESPN give the Washington trade a D and the Gafford trade a C-. Just because "losing first round picks are not good for the rebuild 2 years later" lmao.
ESPN are a bunch of clowns and cater to the Big market teams.

Honestly this team can win a title in 2-3 years if they keep the same personnel and keep playing together.
Elite playmakers and shot creators? Kyrie and Luka. Check. Catch and shoot threat? Maxi and Hardaway. Check. Good defensive bigs and lob threats? PJ, Lively, and Gafford. Check.
PJ actually has a good post up game. Lively has a midrange jumper. But player development will be more on short roll reads with bigs especially if you have a player like Luka that gets blitzed a lot.

I’ve been talkin about PJ since before the deadline for the Mavs and he’s already been really good for the Mavs despite his shooting struggles that have made the casual fans think he’s bad but that game against the warriors was a perfect example of why I love him for the Mavs, he doesn’t care if he scores 30 or 10 he’s just out there playing as hard as possible for the whole game and that’s exactly what the Mavs needed especially because the defense he has been playing has been ridiculous
He has the potential to be one of the best two way player in the league if he works on his shooting
14pts 5 reb, 2 asst, 2 STL and 1.5blk would be lovely for playoff avg.
3Jail really stepped up this game. I was impressed all the way. I know he is capable of scoring like crazy out of no where and thankfully it happened to come at the right time. The funny thing is he basically grew up in Dallas, so I’m sure this motivates him to do the most for his city.

I don't think so he is gonna average more than 16pts, but he is gonna grab 6 rebounds, have 2-3 assist and 2-3 steals. He is a very versatile player on both ends of the court... Perfect 3rd player behind Luka and Kyrie.

Love this team. So many underrated players imo. Gaff forever hustles, powell hustles but with no results. Gafford gets big results both ends of the floor. Lively is a huge diff maker. Hes gonna be Dat Dude (MW) very soon. That other spot has been out there all season for someone to own. Glad PJ is owning it. We have other guys that do it, just not consistantly.

His shooting % is down quite a bit this year, so it's good to see him have a game like this.

Did you all see how Kai the General ran Dallas Offense Last Night??? Now that’s how the offense should be moving at all time - he trusted his teammates and still contributed BIG TIME. Kidd even mentioned all above in post interview. Shout out to PJ, Gafford, DJJ, Exum, and THJ for making smart passes towards the end.
