I am assuming you are talking about the clutch side. Check for something else around the perch area interfering. Sometimes the perch needs to be loosened and rotated to make clearance for clutch lever to come out.
If you feel the need to do so, you can absolutely do this. Your owner's manual or the service manual does a great job of guiding you through that process.

What grease did you use?
I just used standard bearing grease.
Would this installation be the same on the 2017 model?
That 2013-2018 generation is different so the installation method is different but the overall concept can be transferred over to that generation.

Im installing the clutch lever back on and the clutch line seems to be too tight. Can i loosen it to finish the install then tighten it back.
