Digging Potatoes is always an Adventure. Farming and Food

- Harvesting Potatoes on the edge of the Lincolnshire fens. We get to see some of the workings of the Grimme Harvester. We dig the tubers out of the ground, sieve the soil out, clean, maybe inspect, before filling the bunker and loading the waiting trailers.
Time is of the essence, wet weather coming in fast (again). There seems to be a fine line between letting the Potatoes get big enough to sell and be a viable crop, against actually getting them safely harvested and stored before a potential wet winter stops us. It’s nerve racking to be a potato grower!

Fascinating watching the harvester at work. Thank you David.
So many screens 😮 like a starship. Bit of whining noise, hope it’s not another maintenance problem. Clods in the unloading belt 😢
Yes it’s always whined though theres many scrapers which run close.
Yes the screens are a plenty though they do eye strain you. Good quality clods though!
@@Leverton-Brothers have you seen the new 4 ROW AVR POTATO HARVESTER? Looks great and quiet too!
@@cheechU38K saw it at Nocton, really liked it, though there all good really.
@@Leverton-Brothers I loved seeing it too.
Good video that
No Fat Hen, Bin weed and thistles to cope with!!
Aim not too, they take too much available moisture from the crop. Don’t always win though!
Dry !!! when was this filmed
Last week
How do you open out with such wide tyres without squashing rows
Good question! We tramline which leaves a row out either side of a pair. We then pull in the offside rear axle all the way. Then whilst in the row steer the rear axle over to the left 2.6 degrees and it fits a treat!
