    From here in California, it is actually a pleasure to listen to this couple communicate lucidly, emote with enthusiasm, and converse with spontaneity. Here at home, we have a paralyzed and digitized collective well known for grunts and squeals.

    This is one of the most chill narrowboat videos I’ve watched in a long time. Perhaps it’s the constant drone of the engine, or maybe it’s your peaceful demeanor. Either way, it was quite enjoyable.

    Hi Sam, Tim, Lovely Vlog again. Great cruising. Some very interesting boats on the canal. Yellow is interesting: I think it's a ladies thing. A lovely lady I knew 40 years ago, she loved yellow Minis (cars). The water looked nice and clean for a change. I'm always interested in your stats. With few locks in the next 11 miles, its anyone's' game. My bet is on you guys making the forecast mph average. Have a great week.Take Care

    Watford, Chorley and Rickmansworth didn't look like London because they're not. They're all outside the Greater London boundary. Near Rickmansworth you had the London Borough of Harrow on the left bank of the canal and Hertforshire on the right for a bit, then you had Hertfordshire on both banks until a few miles after Rickmansworth, when you crossed the Greater London boundary, but into Hillingdon, not Harrow.
    People think the M25 is the London boundary. In some places it is, in others it's pretty close, but there are a few bits of London beyond the M25 and some quite big chunks of not-London are still inside the ring of the M25. You were cruising one of those slabs of not-London for quite a while.

    Enjoyable video guys, thanks. We discovered when doing family history research some years ago that my Great-great Grandfather drowned in the Grand Union Canal at Rickmansworth in 1891. He was a retired police sergeant and the inquest recorded an open verdict, so did he fall in, did he jump in, or was he pushed in? Nobody will ever know!

    That first one. For many years there was a boat on the River Leven in Dumbarton with a Morris Minor traveller "cabin" similarly grafted on, and a few miles away near Clynder a small coaster with a Scammell truck cab (the old corrugated iron looking one) as the wheelhouse! ;-)

  • @MartinJames389

    I bet some of those "abandoned" boats aren't really. I know someone who lived on a boat which looked abandoned, and wasn't navigable, but was their home for at least 3 years. There's lots of stuff the CRT either can't control, or doesn't try to, in certain places in and near London. Yet in other parts they're heavily on the case.

    The very first boat looks like something one wouldn't be surprised to see Captain Jack Sparrow standing at the helm! When passing an opposite traveling boat, who has the right of way? Logic would suggest to me, the boat going down-stream would have it.

    • @robw7676
      @robw7676 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No upstream/downstream on canals - you stick to the right and give way to boats who are closer to any width restriction than you on things like narrow bridges.
      Downstream has the right of way on rivers, you stick to the right and pass left side to left side unless maneuvering - but common sense applies in terms of more maneuverable boats giving way to less maneuverable ones - you wouldn't blithely plough on in a moderately sized powered boat on a river if confronted by anything bigger than a dinghy under sail on the "wrong" side of the river heading upstream tacking into the wind, you apply some courtesy as it is much easier for you to alter speed or heading to avoid them. Most river and canal users are very courteous and polite.

    It seems there’s a lot more boats on the canals nowadays, I live in Bow with Limehouse Cut around the corner, there’s some new pontoon moorings along there now, It’s a lot busier, which I suppose is a good thing. I also work near Walthamstow just off the A406 near Cooks-ferry roundabout where you have the River Lee Navigation, lots of boats along there too. It’s not the prettiest of places so I guess the mooring fees must be cheaper or none at all, not sure how that bit works.

  • @barefootbob1269

    that looks like some testy navigation with not much room for error. Hard to believe so many abandon boats just sitting there.

    To have a trip average speed over the whole 205 miles of 1.5 mph ; the boat would have to cover the remaining 11 miles at an average speed of 16.6 mph . So the average will probably be close to 1.42 mph , but still a creditable performance given all the distractions along the route .
