Mrs Katie Carson!(said in motherly teacher voice) you always tell us to be true to ourselves and you need to take your own advice! If you want to make a brown soap, you should darn well diddly do that!
I loved hearing about how trends in customer preferences influences your designs. You should do a video breaking down stuff like that. Christine at Holo Taco did something like that breaking down the most/least purchased Polish. I know you don’t really sell the same soaps over and over but breaking down color/fragrance/design would be fun to watch. Love your channel/soaps! 🧼
“It’s a slightly different direction than some of the other collections we’ve done in the June/July time” just caught me waaaaay off guard, how are we this far into the year?!
I was just saying to my husband that I CANNOT believe that we are literally half way to Christmas 🤯🤯 AAAARRRGGHHH!!!! Where the holy heckle has it gone??
You should make a soap under red light. Have someone choose colors where you can't see the name, then choose the colors you feel like using, then layer/swirl the soap and see how it turns out in 18-24hrs
Katie, let me level with ya. I buy the soaps you're really excited about making, as long as I also like the fragrance. Your excitement goes into the bars, so that's what I buy. And I made a Reindeer Poop soap last Christmas, which sold out first, so idk why your people are so picky. Reindeer Poop was all brown shades in a drop swirl lol
I'm Italian, from Tuscany. I'd love to see something inspired to olive trees. When my American boyfriend came here and first saw an olive tree field in the breeze he said "what are those silver trees?" And I thought it was so pure and cute that now I associated silver with olive trees in my mind
I 100% understand your issue, I'm a freelance artist who streams on twitch. When I work on original art I get a lot less views than when I'm working on fan art, but doing fan art all the time becomes a chore, its finding a balance and it is hard.
Katie is definitely an artist. I see a lot of artist on youtube feeling boxed by whats most popular. Y'all need to just be able to create what makes you happy.
make the browns limited edition! you still get to make them and they will most likely sell out. or put it up for preorder so that people who really want it can get it and you don’t make a bunch of extra
I think all artists that have a shop struggle with “do I make things that my customers want/expect? Or do I make what the muse is really calling me to make but would be risky?” It doesn’t matter if you’ve only sold 2 items or have a massive shop with tons of different items, I think we’ve all probably been there. Heck, even if you’ve never sold anything, just as an artist there’s that question of do you stick with your style or medium and what you’re comfortable with, or try a new style or medium and possibly discover something new and exciting to you, or totally suck at it and waste time and money and possibly discourage yourself? It’s the age-old artistic question, really.
Katie keep doing the soaps you love to make, it's what makes Royalty Soaps Royalty Soaps : things made with love, joy and happiness are the best. And if I didn't live in Scotland I'd buy every bar you offer. Esp the brown ones, I love vanilla scented things.
I never would have thought that putting together a collection would be this difficult. You're doing an excellent job Katie! Love your soaps ❤️ Love from India
HOLY SHIT THAT'S BEAUTIFUL! I love purple and I love lavander so I may be biased, but this soap is abslutely lovely. I think from time to time, at least, you should make collections or a few bars that ignore your logical "my customers will like it this way" and follow purely your creativity. That way not only will you be personally satisfied and keep your brand your own, but also you may find your customers actually like something you thought maybe they wouldn't. Or they themselves will be more willing to try new things!
I went to Italy for a month for my Honeymoon years ago and it was amazing! We went to Cinque Terre, Florence, Venice, Rome and did a day tour through Tuscany. It was so lovely 💕
Ooooohhh am I jealous??? Yes I am!!! What a wonderful anniversary trip, I love all things Italian and that sounds like an absolute dream!! I will get there one day🖤
I wish you would bring back the mosaic terracotta soap. I loved that one. Yes, it’s a throw back from like 2-3 years ago. Your mood board reminded me of that soap.❤️
Katie, you need to create the designs that spark creative joy for you! You have so many people who watch your videos because they love you and would support a design that makes your heart sing. What you can do is market them as a bonus soap in the collection and only do a limited run of them. Limited supply makes people want products more. Also, I'm sure many people who purchase your soap love it, but are hesitant to use it and ruin it. A bar that has a design they don't love would make them less hesitant to use it and enjoy your wonderful formula.
I wish I had known you were looking for soaping help 10 years ago or so. I've been making soap for about 20 years now and water discount, especially with my goat milk soap, was a game changer for me. I was part of an online Scandinavian soap-makers group and part of a US group, but I didn't find the US group very helpful, so I wasn't there too long. When I found a UK soapmakers group, I felt I had come home. So helpful and encouraging. Now, when people ask me about showing them how to make soap online, I send them here, to you. Happy Soaping!
My parents just went to France for a month! As a retirement and their anniversary gift to themselves, love them both. -little jelly they got to see the catacombs Happy retirement and 10th wedding anniversary to my Dad and step-mom You both definitely deserve it 🥰 *Perfect video since her favorite sent is lavender!
I’m just grateful you’re posting videos and you have themes each month! Even if the theme was “brown” I’d still watch and enjoy it! I hope more people buy your brown soaps so that it allows you to do what you want!
Honestly, I am SO excited for this collection. It’s honestly more my speed than the super glitzy soaps (which I do think are lovely but aren’t my personal style). I haven’t purchase in a while cause I haven’t needed to since the last time I made a RS purchase, but I probably will from this collection cause I don’t want to miss out 🥰
AHHHH IM SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU MAKE THIS COLLECTION!!! I definitely have a pinterest board devoted to the same refreshing, california-esk summery vibe!
This is delightful to my eyes! I've been branching out into lavender-leaning fragrances and this blend sounds wonderful. As for Italy or France??? Italy, hands down. I want food and sunshine, and I always wanted to visit the boot!
We enjoy seeing you make the designs that really inspire YOU. That's why we're here. Please don't limit yourself creatively, that will only lead to you burning out🤎
I think this collection already sounds refreshing. And I think you should do stuff that you would personally like to create because we like watching that too.
Im kind of new to the whole fancy soap community, but I consider your work functional art. And so I believe the artist should get to make what they want, and if I like you as an artist, I'll support that, even if it's not necessarily the kind of art I would gravitate towards on it's own. Like I love your big whipped top rainbow glittery soaps, both because of how they look and how they work/smell- both as art AND as soap. But I would also buy a brown one with simpler decorations simply because I know you guys make a good product. Its good soap, it smells amazing, it lasts, it cleans. And I like your company, so even if I wouldnt usually go out of my way to find a brown earthy soap, if its a brown earthy soap from *you,* from an artist I already am invested in seeing succeed, I'd buy it. Just my opinion that I kind of...like your brand so much I'd just buy whatever I saw you were passionate about making? Im sure other people feel similarly, but I also understand that's a big risk for you to take as a small business. Whatever you decide to design, whenever you decide to make it, your audience will be here for you
This is how I feel too! I like the low tops best, and I know those aren't Royalty Soap's most famous style, but I love Katie, so I have gotten lots of things that aren't my main style because they are Katie's!
Thank you for pulling back the curtain on your collection design process. It was so interesting to watch! As much as I love your amazing, over-the-top designs, I'm super excited to see this simpler collection come together. :)
I just noticed your rainbow bar of soap hiding with the powders in the beginning of the video! It would be super cool if you kept a collection of bars from the batches you make in the shelf below the powders - like Moriah Elizabeth does with her Squishies!
I am a sucker for glitter but I also really enjoy simple elegance. Those lavender bars look beautiful, feminine and oddly delicious. Ha! Also Italy hands down.
as someone who lives in Europe and has had the privilege of spending a full vacation in both Italy and France multiple times (in different regions within the countries too!), I'd say my overall preference goes to Italy. Still, France is so wonderful as well. If you ever plan on visiting, please keep in mind that touristic locations in Italy will usually have English translations and guides, while in France they very often don't provide English translations, even in very touristic areas. Just something to be prepared for!
I loved how the top layer of the soap turned out! I mean I loved the entire thing as a whole, but my eyes just continuously gravitate towards the swirlies!!! Honestly, though I really enjoyed listening to you talk about the designing process and where customer preference can influence what you do. As a creator and artist, I agree that it is limiting and sometimes even doing one thing that is different can either make or break you in the realm of business because we can't always predict if customers will like what is out. Predictable trends and designs shown through sales and interest are easier to pinpoint and therefore target. I also appreciated your anecdote about how you developed your own soapmaking process! I think that while there are a number of things creators and artists can learn as a base, we all develop our own styles and processes over time that work best for us!
QOTD I’ve been to Italy during the summer (August in Rome to be exact) and it was absolutely beautiful, but sooo hot!! Air conditioning is not exactly common there either so be sure to book a nice hotel room. We took a train up to Florence and it was much cooler, we wished we’d stayed there the whole trip. The good thing about Italy is that they have easily accessible public transportation so even if you’re staying in one city, you can take the train anywhere in the country in about an hour
Oh, I’m excited about this collection! These soaps are going to be beautiful! This one is GORGEOUS! QOTD answer: France, I’ve always wanted to go there!
As a fellow soap maker I find 80 degrees works great for soap. Even when use the heat transfer method I do so and end up with about 85 degree solution. I can totally relate to your issues with creative needs vs. customer expectations. So hard to balance as a creative entrepreneur! Thank you for sharing your business insights!
As a creative I would always try to throw in something that is just for me, even if it was a super small run because it may not sell well. Just to keep motivated I have to let myself go a little too. 😊
Can't wait to get my hands on this soap!!! My favorite candle of all time is the Lemon Lavender candle from Yankee Candle!!!! It doesn't even smell like Lavender or Lemon but like a delicious and clean candy lol! It's hard to describe but I highly recommend it!!!
I really enjoy simple designs as much as the bright and complicated ones. Maybe I even enjoy the simple designs more because they look more natural. So I'm already enjoying this collection! 😁 And you made fabulous soap!
I love this bar! Your other soaps are beautiful, but I've always been drawn to the simpler designs like this. And I think a soap in shades of brown would be gorgeous. Oh and Italy. I'd definitely choose Italy!
You could/should do a monochromatic collection! Different shades of brown, marbled brown, in the pot, etc. And tie the scents in with the colors (i.e. more “brown scents”: cinnamon, vanilla, coffee, mocha, nutty scents, etc.
Italy, just because I love the food - but day trips to the French countryside would be planned. :) Meanwhile the soap is exquisite (that yellow being poured looked *exactly* like luscious lemon curd) and I very much appreciate your direction for this collection generally. Simplicity is creatively satisfying precisely because it's so tricky to pull off.
I would love a vanilla dented soap! You have inspired me to get into soap making, please keep your passion. I will absolutely buy the next brown soap you make!
You gotta try lemon lavender ice cream! It's so easy to DIY too. Just use a hand mixer to blend some lemon juice into softened vanilla ice cream, then mix in culinary grade lavender buds. So simple, so refreshing. Simply delicious!
When Katie says that this collection will be more refined, my heart goes, "Does this mean no glitter?!💔" I'm sure it will be fun and beautiful either way (and maybe more of my actual aesthetic).
First thing, I love all of your soaps and your videos, and I'm thrilled with any and every design you do! Your work is always so beautiful! Second thing, my granny always made me a lemon icebox cheesecake for my birthday (which is in July funnily enough) and it was the most fluffy, most lemony, just all around delicious cake I've ever had. You're gonna love it when you make it.
For the question the day: I would have to go with Italy. The summer time there just seems so nostalgic to me. When I think of summer I think of the wine vineyards and Tuscany. It just goes together in my mind. Lol
Never apologize for following your creativity or for having shaky hands or a shaky voice or for doing different types of soap making than others. It's all what makes you unique! I've never purchased from Royalty Soaps because I'm on a pretty strict "Dial Gold from Dollar Tree" kinda budget, but I really love these videos and watching you create.
I made a Sparkling Lavender Lemonade soap with similar colors. I put the lavender down the middle and made melt n pour lemon wedges to go in the center of each soaps. Smells great and the one you made I’m sure smells amazing too. Beautiful as always. I’d love to go back to Italy. I had the best time and the food is soooooo much better than any Italian restaurant in the US. France, I’ve been there and had fun. I was in both back in ‘91 and in Paris there for their Bastille Day parade. Interestingly, I and another person in our group were asked if we wanted to go on their tank with these military guys. The parade was a big deal bc it was after Desert Storm and the soldiers were in the desert colors… As much as I would’ve thought that would be an amazing story to say one day about riding on one (we were both 18yr old young women) we were smart enough to decline cause god knows wth would’ve happened if we had! 🤔😬😓 my last time in Paris was several years ago in CDG airport and it was awful the French airport worker was just rude and nasty to people who were waiting in the long queues. 😤
I'm proud of you for going your way as a creator and artist and going with something that fulfills you. It's not easy bucking what is tried and true as a creator to do something you want when it could be perceived as a risk. I'm excited for the collection!
I absolutely -love- this! I also grabbed those lavender buds a while back but I don't really use them that often because I feel like they turn kind of yuck on soaps.... so I use them for other projects! And you're right they really do last for a long while! So nice, so nice.... this soap turned out SUPER pretty!
Katie! Have you thought about doing something like a "pie" series...where you could do a nice crust and then fruits for the inside? Or even like sundaes or something like that...where you might use more than one fragrance? And maybe you could poke at your own soap making interests but also those of the buyers? I want to see you do things that YOU like too...you know? :) I'm sure everyone else DOES feel the same, and maybe it's just that they are counting on someone else to buy the bakery scented soaps? Iunno! Positive thoughts though! :)
I have vacationed in both France and Italy and I loved both! I just loved all the museums in France. But I think I’d go back to Italy first because Im Italian and loved getting back to my roots… and all the food ❤️❤️❤️
I remember when the viewer (aka RCM/Royal Court Member) gave you the info about the lavender buds and how amazingly excited you were. In the previous video you had put out an SOS for any info leading to the discovery of non-mouse poop lavender buds and, well anyway, it was fun and exciting for many of us. ☺️
As someone who's been intently watching for so long, I encourage you to make the soaps that will continue your love for this art. If you have a good enough supplemental income, who cares if profits aren't the best for a month or two? Hopefully you're in a position where you can take those creative risks without a large setback♥️ And your fans will follow as long as you're passionate! (:
It’s probably because I’m becoming an old lady, but this theme is so appealing and I’m pretty psyched for this collection. As much as I’m sure the bright neon, rainbow-y soaps are popular, I prefer soap that looks and smells like this one. That’s not to say I don’t get the appeal of the bright exciting ones, just that I would definitely buy (and I have in the past) a brown or more simple soap. I’ve actually been hoping Katie makes a bastille or castile soap again, because I want some!
I just found that lavender seller on amazon and it makes beautiful tea! I'm so happy you're doing something that scratches your creative itch. It's simple and beautiful ❤
For me, I would love to visit Italy. I have ALWAYS wanted to go there. Katie, that soap was gorgeous hun! It came out so elegant and refined looking. You are so very good at what you do. God bless you and your famiky.
Girl, I have been watching you since your very early days in the garage/workshop and you are just amazing. I love that you were talkative (more than usual, lol) because you are just such a happy soul. :)
You are so right about Lavender Lemonade It's definitely my favorite summertime drink. Also, if you've never tried it... Lavender Hot Chocolate & Lavender brownies are also lovely. I'd have to say France because I love Vincent Van Gogh & Oscar Wilde so want to see sights related to them. Also 2 grandparents were stationed there.
Yes! I'm a fashion designer and sometimes customers don't want the things you want and sometimes you carry the same pant for 5 years and celebrate when you can finally put it out to pressure because you've actually been looking at it for 7. 🤣

Seconding. I like to watch the 'best-selling' view on your website just to see what styles take off or don't. It's interesting stuff. :)
I love this viewers idea :) sounds fun!
Would love to see that! I really do like some "Behind the scenes" of the soap business.
I would click on this type of video so fast! I love data analysis stuff!

Like hot chocolate!! But this year, it's gonna smell like fudge brownie from WSP because it's a stronger smell

I think that you need to let your creativity reign. One of the reasons we fell in love with you is your art and how open you are with it!
France! The last time I was there, I was 14, and I would love to go back now and properly explore the country.
This one is so pretty! So simple but so amazing! I really got flashbacks to all the vacations to France when I look at the soap! I love it Katie!
I really enjoy simple designs as much as the bright and complicated ones. Maybe I even enjoy the simple designs more because they look more natural. So I'm already enjoying this collection! 😁
And you made fabulous soap!
This is my favourite soap I’ve seen you make so far. It’s just a beautiful soap!
I'm in love with this soap, love that you are changing it up a bit and going with your creative ideas...
I would love to see you making some of the "standards" in your store, like diamond soaps, shampoo bars, lotions, how you do the sample packs, etc.
OMG!! This is the prettiest soap I have seen in a LONG time!! I love it!!!
Italy, just because I love the food - but day trips to the French countryside would be planned. :)
Meanwhile the soap is exquisite (that yellow being poured looked *exactly* like luscious lemon curd) and I very much appreciate your direction for this collection generally.
When Katie says that this collection will be more refined, my heart goes, "Does this mean no glitter?!💔"
I'm sure it will be fun and beautiful either way (and maybe more of my actual aesthetic).
There will still be glitter, I promise!! 💗✨
I am loving this simple design. If I had a choice I would go to France. I went as a teen on a school trip and fell in love with France.
Lol
I love seeing your colorant jars behind you again.
I have already visited France so I would love to spend a summer in Italy! Love the soap!
I absolutely -love- this! I also grabbed those lavender buds a while back but I don't really use them that often because I feel like they turn kind of yuck on soaps.... so I use them for other projects! And you're right they really do last for a long while! So nice, so nice.... this soap turned out SUPER pretty!
Omg the soap reminds me of a lemon pie with a baiser top. It looks delicious.
I'm sure everyone else DOES feel the same, and maybe it's just that they are counting on someone else to buy the bakery scented soaps?
I use pancake mix and add a little sugar and powdered lemon and the pancakes taste like lemon cake. yummy
France. When lavender is in bloom!
Very nice design! Love the understated elegance. I think the theme of this collection will be perfect for summer 🍋🌞🌊
I just found that lavender seller on amazon and it makes beautiful tea! I'm so happy you're doing something that scratches your creative itch. It's simple and beautiful ❤
I'm a sucker for lemony things and this soap is lovely!
I am so excited to see what you want to do! Your are so creative and it's genuinely a joy to watch you explain your ideas!
I hope the cream color goes a bit yellow all-throughout. That just looks so pretty on the top!
You're such a beautiful person I love how much thought you put into everything you do.
This soap is gorgeous! 🤩I love seeing your creative process and what you come up with.
I absolutely love this one, it might be my favorite ever! It's so beautiful. I wish I could use it.
I am in love with this soap!!! My absolute favorite fragrance combo
The coffee shop that is attached to the pharmacy that I work at sells lavender lemonade and it is so good!
