My computer stopped turning on back in 2014. I put it back in the box and forgot about it. I then bought a pre build PC. I just built my first PC and now i feel confident i can fix my old mac. I really think its the power supply and love you made a video of what i need to do. THANK YOU !!!!
Buddy’s iMac 2011 been sitting here for a week. Never opened an iMac before and your video was the best for getting at the psu. Sadly it’s cheaper to buy an old working iMac 2011 on Craigslist for the same $. And like you said, it could be something else if the new psu don’t fix it. Thx. If it were my rig, I’d try the new psu
Great job - I can hear you are not local to me, otherwise my Mac would be winging its way to you - great vid. I'm going to try it but still a bit nervous re the cables, they looked a bit tricky!
Excellent video. Saw another video where the poster used a pair of tweezers to hold the screw while removing and replacing to avoid the issue of the magnet pull.
When your power supply started failing what kind of symptoms did it produce? My iMac 2011 is having issues with repetitive spontaneous restarting after being woken from a long sleep, not sure what is causing it but it's getting worse
Glad it helped. If you haven't already, please like and subscribe so others can find my videos and possibly consider watching a few others to get the algorithm to recommend my channel. Thanks!
Great video and excellent tutorial Thanks for posting it. So, if anyone can answer this. Mine gets so hot you can't stand to touch it.... Within 20 minutes of turning it on. Is that a sign of the PSU going bad? I had this problem all this time and managed it with fans on full, and lost an HD a few years back, and just recently cooked a hard drive to the point of destruction.Sadly every time I goggle about the 2011 top right everyone says "oh it's fine they always run hot." So I'm trying to figure out if i need a new PSU with my HD replacement or if it's the backlight driver board.
@@ItsBinhRepaired thanks for the fast reply. yes I mean after it’s been totally cleaned! Still heats up unbearably hot behind the screen power board and the PSU. I just ordered a new psu so if it solves it great, if not, I have my current as a backup! No idea why it gets that hot in such a short time, it used to just get warm up there.
Thanks so much, I got it installed and I also found having the desktop cluttered runs it hot. It's all better now. When I made that swap I also renewed the heat sink paste on the cpu and gpu. Thanks for checking!
hello, my old imac had a really bad, noisy fan. sounds like it wants to take off when it gets going. will replacing the power supply help this? thanks!
I have a mid 2011 imac that will not turn on but it powers up as i can hear fans, disk drive and HDD spin at startup, i just dont get anything on my screen nor a startup chime. Was this the exact symptoms to yours? Or was yours completely dead and nothing would come on? Please help
Hi have a question if u could help i have same imac and before buying power supply replacement has your imac is completely no power at all that the 4 lead inside nothing as 1st led should light up if there is a power going to the imac. I don’t wanna spend yet until finding a full solution. Let me know thanks
Yeah will buy at ebay see accept return and see if works thanks btw would be nice if u know reason why u have change the power supply has it not turning on at all or something.
@@ItsBinhRepairedNot available at link but often I find power supplies failing due to capacitors bad. Were there any bulging caps on the unit you removed? They can be replaced for pennies.
I need help about old "Early 2009 24 A1225 Imac" Display! Can i replace a LM240WU2(SL)(B4) with another LM240WU2(SL)(B2) Display? Could someone help me please?
A few weeks back, my 2011 Imac suddenly went black. Only the lcd backlight (backlight works, but screen stays black) and the fan respond to power on and off. Everything else is dead including mouse & keyboard. I'm hoping it is the power supply running at reduced voltage, but I fear the motherboard is the problem. Not that I can't get the parts fairly cheap, but it's so much harder to replace.

That's a great idea. Those L/J shaped tweezers would work. I might use that idea in the future. Thanks!

Sounds like a dead GPU.
