So of the 5 Finalists, two danced to Awakening of Flora and two danced to Paquita. Could a dancer please explain why, of the 12 variations available, these two particular ones were danced by the winners? I feel bad for the women who perfected any of the other 10 variations!
And 1st girl Paquita... I do not understand why that solo is so popular, there's nothing impressive about it and it only looks good if you have really gorgeous technique.
@@lilibetp I agree, but also there's several girls who performed this solo who would have done much better with a different variation. It might just be me, but I LOVE when a dancer is performing a variation that really suits them and shows off their strengths, and it all just comes together.
alina y I agree. It’s the ugliest variation from the Paquita grand pas. Plus, you need to have excellent musicality to make it work and the nervous student look is not a good match with a variation that’s supposed to be fiery and vivacious. I got so bored watching them.
I loved Isabella’s contemporary! It blew me away completely. Everyone was really good and they are all super talented kids can’t wait to see what their futures hold for them

In the Classical Coaching video, they say that the women had 12 variations to choose from. Not just Senior Women variations, but Soloist variations, so basically the hardest way that piece can be danced. The Junior girls do simpler variations. This whole process is so fascinating!
This format is a winner: limiting the number of variations the dancers can choose. I love watching the different interpretations! And the talent. Just when you think young dancers can't get better... come the following year, the bar just keeps getting higher. (As an aside, the woman sharing commentary duties has the most wonderful blouse. Anyone know who might be the designer?)
I honestly got bored of seeing Awakening of Flora and Paquita a thousand times lol I like to see different variations because each candidate has their own strength (like turning, pointe work, port de brais etc) and limiting the number of variations also limits how they can play to those strengths and make it diverse and interesting.

the girl who did Tom at the end drove me nuts, she danced it beautifully but the coach gave her the direction not to hold her hands to her thighs and she danced the whole thing with her hands stuck to her thighs...grrr
I know this is 2 years old, but I wanted to watch all the ones I had missed. Sadly, in this one, my one criticism is directed toward the sound technicians. I felt they did a very poor job; the commentators sounded like they were on an aeroplane giving an announcement, also their whispers could be heard on air, 'Oh my God' the female commentator said when Soo Min Kim appeared on stage, which i'm sure it wasn't directed at her. Also the sound of the balleriners' shoes sounded like horses clopping across the stage! It kind of ruined the elegance of the performance and was a little distracting for those of us who aren't custom to watching a live performance.

What the Asian girls have that the other generally don't is beautiful upper body and arm movements -- a Russian influence.
Agreed, there's always a focus on the placement of the hands in particular that I really enjoy from the Japanese dancers
