Ive been using a serpa for 7 years as an armed guard. Idk how many times ive unholstered it and not once was my finger guided toward the trigger anymore than a normal holster. Seems like most of the gear queens complaining just dont know what theyre talking about
Outstanding demonstration and explanation of proper serpa holster technique. The best I have seen. Thank you. As an instructor I also strongly refer everyone to the excellent little blackhawk instruction booklet that comes with each holster. It clearly details proper and safe use IF ONLY PEOPLE WOULD STOP AND READ IT. Again thank you for a great video.
I own a Serpa for my Glock 19. It's my favorite holster. If you shoot yourself using this holster it is not the holster's fault. keep your dam finger out of the trigger until you're ready to handle business. Pay attention when you draw your weapon. This is a great level 2 retention holster. I have other ones, but this is my favorite cause it's really quick. Like any product human error is real. Pull the trigger gun goes off. That simple.
The best shooters on earth prep the trigger as the gun comes up. This is just an unsafe holster design. If you aren’t putting your finger on the trigger until the gun is on target, you are the one that has to train more. get a Safari land if you require a level two holster the only way that these are safe, is if you are running a double action gun.
You can accidentally put your finger on the trigger too soon drawing from ANY holster. I have a Serpa holster and my trigger finger naturally goes to the frame when drawing.
I've had a serpa that I bought from a pawn shop probably about a few months ago maybe half a year ago at this point I haven't had a single ND . The description of what I was given in this video makes it sound like it's more of a user fault or user error causing ND
My finger always lands of the frame every time, no problem whatsoever. It is unnatural for me to curl my finger when I draw, but I tried drawing gun with my finger curled and it still lands on the frame nowhere near the trigger. So people must have bent fingers. Go figure, I really like this holster.
This was my first type of holster I ever trained on, spent a lot of time indexing correctly practicing fast draws and timed qual courses. Never had any issue in fact I had to research why people thought they were dangerous at all and was dumbfounded why someone would think ‘hooking’ their finger to unlock was even logical ( less contact surface area and distorts grip position at presentation) Practice practice practice and you won’t have an issue.
I have an IME knockoff of the Serpa. They moved the release over the slide to avoid the accidental discharge issue. However, my main beef with this design is that the release button is on the outside and just screams "press me!" to the bad guy who wants to take your weapon. I prefer the release to be on the inside operated by my thumb (like Safariland's ALS + Sentry Guard) where it's less accessible and less obvious to the bad guy.
I use one with my Beretta 92fs, absolutely no issues. A longer DA trigger pull also works as a double safety feature. Striker fired, is definitely another animal.
I’ve done various training over 10 years I don’t consider myself a pro at all but I’ve carried for over 10 years multiple different calibers and pew pew models and sizes. Some with safety’s some without. Never had an issue until I didn’t get proper sleep went through extreme dieting and didn’t hydrate myself. Was in a car with no a/c window up locking up the pew pew and had a heat stroke passing out. When I jolted awake I ended up shootin myself in the leg then through center dash and then passenger door. Accidents happen. I don’t remember any of the shots just going deaf vision blurry then seeing blood. After that adrenaline kicked in I ran inside building had them call cops tied a belt around my leg and elevated it. Didn’t get in trouble with the law. No one else got hurt but I hit a small artery and shattered my fibula bones with a 9mm hollow point. Please listen and take care of yourself mentally, physically and spiritually. I let my guard down and pushed my body to the extreme and paid the price. Also make sure you insurance covers accidents with a firearm or you will not get paid like me
My favorite holster. I've tried to purposely get my finger to go into the trigger guard, it ends up on the frame. It's people trying to draw faster than their skill level. You have to use tools properly.
The retention feature is critical for carry. Many people get knocked down in serious altercations. I don’t want my striker fire gun to go flying outward if I go down. If I go down, that gun is coming with me and staying with me with a Serpa. No brainer!
2:03 indexed.. perfectly explains how a shooter should be regardless of holster. The Serpa's failure is when using it in the field under dirty conditions. For that reason, the ALS system wins.
Not only that but when people are trained but never was trained under stressful situations and draw and shoot them selves its because they grab the gun and with the fight or flight reflex hit the trigger. Also if you are open carry with the serpa you finger naturally goes to the button and now if you have to fight for control of the gun your finger is on the button while fighting for it. This video better explains it and demos all the things wrong with the serpa. th-cam.com/video/a9xIFdCVNOI/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for the teaching and demonstration in this video because I own 2 serpa holsters and every time I look up a video on it All other guntubers wants you to hate the holster. I love this holster it does its job and does it right
Think about why the people who shoot more rounds than 99.9999% of people on earth tell you why to hate the holster. It might be because they know a little something they are universally hated, they are the only holsters banned by name in top level competitions. That means the people who train more than anyone else on the planet all universally agree that it is an unsafe design.
I've got a serpa holster I use a lot, I press the button with my finger fully extended, like you would extend it to keep the finger away from the trigger when holding the gun normally... It's not rocket science.
Many ranges will not allow non law enforcement to wear holsters at all "No holsters" do to the danger of one shooting themselves or others. So one can say holsters are dangerous.
Every Taser sold comes with a Serpa II, how many ND's nave occurred? MY Agency actually mandates the purchase and use of the Serpa while carrying our issued weapon while in plain clothes. 16 yrs, same Level II and III Serpa's, never had an issue. And OMG... I live and work in a sandy environment. Actually wearing one right now. Any ND's or injuries are completely user error and anyone saying no to them has no experience with them and is just parroting the BS they've heard. They're one of the few that actually cover the entire trigger guard. Way too many ND's from gun grabs or children touching an Officers gun and sticking their fingers in there. New vid's are out, instructors are bringing this to students attention. Safariland my next go to choice. Y'all ever carried a triple retention reverse clamshell? 😮
There is other problems with the serpa holsters th-cam.com/video/a9xIFdCVNOI/w-d-xo.html explains them far better than me. That button with sand or dirt in it is just as deadly.
Any holster that facilitates negligent discharges without use of proper technique is inherently dangerous. Competing designs don't have this issue regardless of whether your technique is good, so there is no reason whatsoever to even bother using such an inherently dangerous design in the first place.
You can accidentally put your finger on the trigger too soon drawing from ANY holster. I have a Serpa holster and my trigger finger naturally goes to the frame when drawing.
@@Philmoscowitz Some holsters do absolutely nothing whatsoever to facilitate that. Serpa holsters do, in fact, operate in such a way to facilitate that. You don't know more than shooting copetitions, law enforcement agencies, government agencies, etc.
@@Philmoscowitz It's not my usual practice, and the point is that agencies, both public and private, that constantly deal with holsters almost universally ban this style of holster. They do so because of experience. Also, the name is just that, my name. I'm actually named Lawless; the irony goes beyond just that, lol.
So if you go down hard in a serious physical altercation you’re ok with the risk of your striker fire gun flying outward and potentially going off? I slipped on ice today and went down hard. There’s not a holster out there that would have retained my gun except a retention holster like Serpa. It’s all about tradeoffs my friend. LEOs are notorious for negligent discharges and that don’t have Serpa holsters so what’s your point?

I own a Serpa holster and usually have an ND every couple of months.
The most straightforward explanation I’ve seen on this holster. Nice work man. Subscribing!

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I do it the right way naturally. I’ve used one for over fifteen years.
That is one of the worst green screen jobs I have ever seen

Serpa holsters show how far too many shooters have crappy technique.
Makes sense!

Nope. They are if you don’t train ever with it then yes very.

Bad take. SERPAs are a garbage design. You shouldn’t have to train around a bad design.
sound very copium
My boy ODed on the copium
They are not dummy proof but great option for the rest of us!! 🚫🤡🚫
