    Yeah, that’s what happens when you don’t pay your own members what they deserve. You’re only as good as the people you play with. That’s why once Vivian Campbell was let go of Dio, the albums after weren’t as great as those first 3. There was the magic with that lineup. It’s too bad, stuff like that happens in the music business. Too many people getting fucked over. Wendy Dio saying “Vivian thought he was as important as Dio” well yeah he is, he was writing the tunes as well. It’s sad that Dio would wish Vivian was dead too, even if there was bad blood between them, come on, you don’t gotta say shit like that. He helped your “solo” career. It was a band not just one guy.

    • @alexkopela
      @alexkopela 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Indeed! It was so obvious that Vivian came up with those riffs, because the style of the band without Vivian changed radically.
      Vivian Campbell was as essential to Dio as Brian May was to Queen. Wendy clearly thought that the guitar player was replaceable , but chemistry is everything.

    • @M.Never.
      @M.Never. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Vivian Campbell's name did not sell the band. He was an unknown when he joined Dio. VC did not give the input into the branding or the artwork, he did not decide which musical directions the band should take or which musicians to hire, he did not make the decisions which songs to put on the album, he did not come up with the stage sets or the design of the stage shows, or make any other entrepreneurial decisions. Nor did he bear the financial risk or the responsibility. So no, he was not as important as RJD, nowhere near.
      As for what they were paid, this is very much up to debate. Wendy says VC is lying through his teeth, and she has the paperwork to prove it. Until she presents the paperwork, it's his word against hers, and it's up to you who you choose to believe. Unfortunately there's a lot of misogyny and "evil wife" trope in these comments here, and VC plays the "exploited victim" role very well. I recommend reading the autobiography, as there is clearly more than one side to this story.

But I'm just a female fan trying to make a point for a balanced POV, rather than chiming into the one-sided and usually male diatribe. I'm sick of the blatantly misogynist tirades not just against WD, but against about any woman involved in music management.
      I also fail to understand why people seemingly just take VC's words for gospel. I for one wasn't there, and I haven't seen contracts, balance sheets or bank account statements. Who are you, VC's PR management?
      For I don't know who to believe, especially since over the years I've heard about five different contradictive versions of VC's story, so I didn't know what I was supposed to believe even before WD came out with her own version.

    Vivian Campbell is actually very humble about the whole thing. It's the Dio camp that has resorted to the mud slinging, and quite frankly it has destroyed the reputation of one of the best ever singers in rock. Wendy Dio has been trying to extract as much money as she can out of Ronnie's name for decades...even the whole hologram thing which was a total embarrassment...was just about the money. Now she's flogging a book? Jeez, just let the guy rest in peace. Vivian has clearly moved on, he's apologized for the bad stuff he said. Viv has writing credits on 5 of the 9 tracks on Holy Diver - how about Wendy pays Viv the royalties which he should have got for those? Nah, didn't think so...

    Vivian Campbell was essential to the sound and creativity of those early records. Vivian's playing in the studio and live was and is incredible.
    Firing Vivian was a mistake and the band never recovered. Smaller and smaller audience with each subsequent record without Vivian!
    If Wendy managed Ozzy, she probably would have fired Randy Rhoads.
    Ozzy would never had let go of Randy. In Ozzy's case, it was because of Randy's tragic death that forced him to find a replacement.
    Vivian was Ronnie's Randy Rhoads. Ozzy got bigger with each record, Dio got smaller. As for business decisions, compare Ozzy's career to Ronnie's.

    Dont join a band when the manager is married to the lead singer. Just like Sharon and Ozzy. Same bs.

    Yeah well Wendy when you don't pay people that's what happens. Say what you want about paying for everything early on, yet 3 albums and another upcoming tour and you still pay them like hired hands. They weren't. They, in fact were what we call original members. I understand the business side of the business. If you were still just breaking even at this point and unable to pay them more from whatever resources you had coming in. On top of keeping an obvious good thing going. Then something was horribly wrong.

    Spoken like a true business owner after the workers worked their ass off to make the business successfull. So remember .... make your own deal with the business owner and get it in writing.

    Vivian created the Dio sound and got stabbed in the back for it.
