    Bought one after seeing this review. Damn fine tool, it's become my new favorite hatchet for light bushcraft and and essential piece in my camping kit. I added a finish to the handle because irs sold completely untreated, which I like because it gave me the freedom to add whatever stain/finish I desired. Side note: if you wanna get one in your hands before purchase, in the US, they are available at any Woodcraft store

      I added some neats foot oil to the handle. Great value hatchet

    I have this axe and it’s worth every penny east to sharpen I use a disk are tool for that. I reckon I paid 85 usd at a town festival which is fair since it’s about €70

    Nice shots, and it does look great. Used to love setting up camp, making stools, hangers, building the fires. My favorite "buy" is prime lenses, although I shoot mostly with zooms (street, some wild life).

      Thanks Steve. I think that lens I’ve been using is my favourite lens of all time. Covers 20mm - 50mm equivalent at f1.7, makes in incredible versatile. Although I’m on micro four thirds so you loose some bokeh

    Funny, I have a nearly identical Jägerbeil (hunting hatchet) made by Wisent, another German company, which is a contract partner with toolstore Bauhaus. They are just as amazing and affordable as the Bison. And I assume now that Bison made this hatchet for Wisent/Bauhaus. Bison is an old german traditional axe maker, which is located in beautifull Großschönau, a small village in the hills of Saxony directly at the border to the Chezch Republic.

    Pretty sure I’ve never bought a tool “tool” on a whim but I did go out and buy myself a block of sculpy and a bunch of tools to sculpt with just after the Christmas video ... I have yet to use any of them 😅 Art supplies are my vice, even though I rarely ... art.

    Honestly my last impulse buy was a bison axe the other day what can I say... January sale £45+vat I just couldn't help myself. Granted if I could find a nice small Sheffield made axe I'd be all over it but until then I'm sure this should do the trick

    Do you think it hurts your channels growth switching to totally different tropics all the time?

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Yes it does. 100% channels that only focus on a niche grow much faster.
      But I don’t care. If I can’t make videos about whatever I want then I don’t see the point. I would get completely bored with just doing the same type of content all the time, I’m just too easily distracted.
      But yeah, often the channel views take a dive when I post something a bit random. TH-cam actually punishes you for not sticking to a niche.

      Thats actually cheap when it comes to these kinds of hatchets. The most popular brands are £100+ They are designed to last longer than their owners.

    The grain orientation on that handle is terrible. If that grain lifts and you run your hand up it, look out. It can cause nasty accidents. I have seen it happen.

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean the surface of the handle could have splinters lift up? Yikes

    • @johnmutton799
      @johnmutton799 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StephenJReid when the grain lifts is bad. But when it parts can cause bad injury. My mate had a axe like that, he ran his hand down it, went into his palm and jammed into the base of his fingers. Ex worked in hospital and told me of lad were the wood went into base of thumb into his wrist. This is why you should always buy a decent handle. Me i would buy a good handle and fit that instead. Last a life time.
