My air battery gives me 2 miles pedal on most . In throttle mode it fads to zero after 36secs and the battery and the led monitor don’t ever read the same
You have very good reasons for not upgrading. I did not consider it as an upgrade, but as an increase in range, for really long-distance rides. I bought the new battery kit (30km) & install the mount in the headtube, while the 2nd gen battery mount is in the handlebar. In most of my ride, I only bring one battery & which one - depends on the distance.
Hello, I’ve ordered a conversion kit for a spring 2023 delivery, and your videos have been very helpful. The new 9 & 18 mile batteries are too range limited compared to what you have, so I’ll probably buy one of each, one for just puttering around here, and the other for running errands (carrying the other as a backup). The Order Portal opens for me next month - do you recommend the brake sensors? Can you make a video showing stopping with and without the brake sensors?
I can’t make that video as I don’t have them. I personally don’t see a need as I am never pedaling and braking at the same time. Good luck and thanks for watching.
I actually don't need 60 miles battery box on my bike.work 6 miles away.air max just perfect.if you like this coffin on your steering wheel, that's fine.good luck
Old vid, gave good points, Because newer does not mean better or smaller better, I never owned one and may just Pedal on till I find a kit, Swytch looks nicer then the Kyberebike one i want compact vs bulk
Agree with you and have the same kit as you fitted on my brompton. I’ve ordered new one (max) for another brompton I’m looking to build (for the wife). For me Sywtch is going for a ‘cool appeal - mainstream’ update. Aesthetics over functionality.
I have a Brompton also with Gen 2 battery, like this video, and looks like swytch has fewer resources for the Gen 2 battery. i emailed them and their customer support is a bit lacking on the Brompton kits/adapters.
We had the same problem. My wife's Swytch Kit is not airplane friendly. Since they have a small option for the battery in the new kit. You definitely can't fly with the old kit. But the old kit is great and I would not "upgrade" neither. We were considering getting a smaller battery custom made for the old kit, but to fly with it you will need some certifications, so we didn't do it.
I probably wouldn't change an older set up for the new generation either but I don't have the old type. I ordered the latest generation and I believe next month will be the time for me to confirm specifics. I don't need the range of the old type battery , I think charging the new battery is quicker and the obvious weight difference might be an advantage for an old unfit bloke like me.😅
I am sure the new generation is wonderful as a new install for people who are interested in less weight and more portability as you mentioned. I am also sure at some point they’ll release a higher range battery in the new format. I was simply hoping for a little more in terms of an “upgrade” package. Regardless, I continue to use and enjoy my kit. Thanks for watching.
Hey, thanks for giving an insight to the new set. How did you get the prices? When I signed up for the new kit it said nothing about prices. Also no release date so far. As to your thoughts about whats the benefit to take a battery (and bike) onto an airplane: I ride a Brompton folding bike. on long business trips I usually stay 2-5 weeks elsewhere and now I can have my E-bike with me :) I hope to purchase a second AIR battery pack though...
I have the same dilemma although the battery on my V2 pro is starting to get a little soggy so I may have to stump up for the new version in 6-12 months' time anyway. I can probably still do 40km on medium power on a flat journey but one of my regular journeys is a very hilly 10km (20km there and back) and my v2 Pro struggles on the hills when the battery is low on the way back. I'm pretty much always hitting 1 bar at the end of this journey as the hills really take it out on the battery. I'm not sure the 30km version will be enough. It's not so much the range but the torque it can provide at lower battery levels I'm concerned with. Apparently, the new controller is an improvement on the old one though so maybe that issue can be fixed with software. The other related consideration is the top speed at different battery levels. I'm probably losing almost 2mph top speed every time the battery indicator drops a level and that is getting worse as the battery ages. I can get over 18mph on a full battery but by the time I'm on 4 bars, top speed is 16mph. By the time I'm on 1 bar, all I can get is 13mph. This is currently not really an issue on my Pro as more often than not, I'm back home before the battery is at 50% but with the reduced range of the new batteries, will I be struggling to get a good speed on the way home? Again, maybe there are some tweaks to the controller to compensate for this but until someone does a proper review on it, I'm skeptical. My reasons for wanting to upgrade. * More portable * Even easier to swap * Indicator/controls separate from battery * Looks cooler * Lighter (Brompton + Swytch) is not an easy carry. * My old Swytch battery is showing its age. (not to the point its not usable but does not last as long as before) My reasons for not wanting to upgrade. * Reduced range * Likely reduced max torque/speed after even 10km (Will need someone to confirm) * Not interchangeable with my old Swytch * What do I do with my old battery?
Thanks for watching and you made some solid points. I will do a video soon on how you can have the indicator and controls separate from your existing battery if desired. I will also be doing a battery rebuild video when I get to the point where my battery needs it.
Yeah no way I would PAY to have LESS range. I just got my first Swytch kit, the new design, and honestly I could really do with a bit more range (I got the max but I do delivery shifts). On the bright side if I'm really finding 30km isn't enough (it's kind of unlikely considering I can turn it off on flat roads, but the more range the better tbh), I can just buy a second battery and keep it in my bag, or on the rack etc (when they become widely available..). If they change the battery AGAIN so that I can't even BUY a second battery, well that would be pretty damn annoying. Either way, I'm happy that I didn't have to own another bike just to go electric, and can still ride in the old fashion style, plus the new battery does look nice and compact. I did have to file like 3 different things in order for the kit to work though. That in itself is ridiculous for a universal kit, plus the display didn't fit the handlebars. I had TWO BIKES that wouldn't take the wheel. But I've made it work with minor modification, I just feel that they need to take road bikes into consideration more.
I am curious : Did this battery pack not hinder your position of a front bike light? I reckon Swytch would probably encourage a few sales of these newer batteries if they just threw in the new bracket - for free - for existing customers like yourself.
My battery has the built in light but it's only good for visibility, you can't use it to see. I will be making another video soon to show how to get around that. Thanks for watching !
The new kit is clearly aimed at being more portable for the commuter. If you don't use your bike like this then there is no real reason to want to upgrade... ...until your battery dies and you can't buy a replacement... They'll all get you one way or the other! If looking to buy new, I doubt many people will cycle more than 30Km, and for those that do there is the option of carrying a spare battery. What would be nice is if the batteries can be used to power lights (for standard use and braking) and charge a phone. Maybe the next upgrade...
Not really a upgrade just a new model. True you can upgrade existing if you want maybe the lighter air battery. You choose on your requirements. Cycle to work and can charge at your destination choose Air battery.Need more range then get the Max. Have the old 2 gen Swytch fitted to wife’s bike and Swytch max to my own. Have a spare Max battery for longer trips. Good thing with the kit you can still pedal home if battery flat, not so easy on purpose made e bike.
Don't order the new kit - you'll never receive it. Ordered mine back in May and delivery has been pushed at least three times to "just before Christmas". I am confident that it will not arrive then either.

Exactly what I wanted to hear.
Thanks Mate 😊
Mine won't turn on, I've flicked switch at back nothing happens, I think fuse is gone but where is the fuse...
Können Sie mir bitte sagen, wie ich das Motorrad ausbauen kann?
i signed up earlier this year but i wanted the one that you have. when i saw that it wasn't an option, i didn't buy.

Yes, the new upgrade is really a downgrade for a lighter and smaller battery. That's one of the reasons that I won't be buying a new Swytch model.
