The worse part about explosive weapons is it counts each hit location a target has, head/torso/arms/legs/extra locations. Add hitting multiple targets you get insane degradation on weapons that shouldn't degrade much at all when firing.
Yeah it's crazy man I use one too ,I also use the two shot fatman broadsider and missile launcher regularly, with gunsmith 5 lick of the draw 3 and double repair them.i can't even use the targeting computer on the missile launcher because it makes it so much worse than it already is
Honestly don't think they will bother fixing it because repair kits are in the game. At least they should put a repair bench in the tent, guess that will never happen either. Also i don't know if you can verify this but i remember my weapons breaking alot less before repair kits were introduced, i feel like something was changed in the code when they were introduced to the atomic shop.
i honestly think that the degradation feature is a lot more irritating on both F3 and FNV reason why i say this is cos they also constantly lower your DAMAGE output the more you use your weapons at least in 76 you keep the same damage the whole time and is much easier and cheaper to fix still.. weapon degradation SUCKS Thx Skyrim

You can fire 300 shots from a missile launcher in fallout 3 or new vegas before it breaks And in fallout 76 you can fire 10 shots before it breaks...... do you enjoy having your bibs and bobs curb stomped ? 🧐
wasn't truly kidding Tyr i always despised how demanding and tedious was the weapon's degradation on older fallout games always hated when i had to pay 1500 caps just to fix my Anti-material rifle for instance and the whole damage degrading output was something i totally hated that was also a thing in TES 4 but at least in Oblivion fixing you weapons was not a big issue since you can always find smithy hammers to repair your swords one thing i did enjoyed about 76 is that weapons will keep the same exact level of damage as long you have one point of Health in them yes is stupid BS that 2x Shoots effects apparently will cause double fatigue to the weapons but i prefer to spend scrap over 2000caps for every time i have to repair my Light machine gun you feel? btw i always thought that i much more fun to introduce the weapon's degrading feature was to make it so the weapons will never break, but to start JAMMING instead when they get very low on HP i honestly miss the jamming animations specially when it happens in those WTF moments haha but i do HATE to see my weapon breaking right in my face in the middle of combat fuck just give me Simon Belmont's unbreakable VAMPIRE KILLER CHAIN!
Damage based on weapon condition used to be a thing in F76, at least for melee weapons. You could even increase the damage of melee weapons by over-repairing them, so it wasn't all that bad.
You do know that Obsidian added a Maintenance Threshold for every weapon and armor that has it not degrade as long as the item doesnt reach that point in durability?

Now it all makes sense I ran through westek once with my two shot explosive shotgun and it was "magic" at the time It would barely go through a run and break I just gave up on the gun it was running up my repair kits like crazy
Oh man, this really needs to get fixed. My melee character used to carry so many improved repair kits because melees are super efficient when it comes to weapon degradation. Ever since Daily Ops dropped, I started farming ultracite ammo to put up for sale in my vending machines. It didn't take long for my ranged weapons to eat through all of my repair kits.
This system works perfect for Bethesda. High end weapons that most people covet and use most often? Bethsda has the perfect solution for you. Buy repair kits from the Atomic shop!!!!!! This isn't a flaw....it's business!
Or you can loot and use public items and the salvage from said items and repair you're weapons , the only ones that would complain are people who don't salvage and loot as well as scrap and weapon repair kits are given as rewards. If you salvage and loot you don't need repair kits.

Thanks for doing this. I love it when I read posts on Reddit about this subject and there's always someone saying that the weapon degradation system doesn't need fixing. It's just because the enemies require more bullets now which make it seem like weapons break faster. The next time that I see someone make that argument I'm going to link them to this video.

My lvl 435 updated endgame heavy gunner build carries the two shot 33 Fat-Man,Broadsider,missile/auto grenade launcher.And the Tse 50 cal/ tse lmg at all times. They're literally the only weapons I use anymore, so I truly understand the severity of this issue. Idk if theres anything I can do in terms submitting a ticket about it. Idk how it works but maybe if enough of us shed light on the issue we can make a change like you did with God mode. I pay for fallout 1st so do usually spend 1k of my monthly atoms on repair kits for emergencies even with all the condition perks.
And each increase in crafted weapon damage decreases the weapon durability thus compounding the effect of the per projectile strike base degradation. The better your crafted weapon damage the worse it’s durability. Even with Weapon Artisan level three, you barely get back near base durability. Additionally, the Improved Repair kits do not fully repair even with the Weapon Artisan card. The damage nerf plus the weapon degradation issue is just untenable. I now craft and carry two of my favorite weapons for boss fights since one is going to break long before the boss dies Excellent video!

Hi Tyr! I agree with everything you said however I feel there is zero chance of Bethesda doing anything about it! There are so many bugs and issues still remaining that after 2 years (and with regular revenue stream coming in from repair kits) they have no incentive to make more work for themselves by reinventing the wheel...
also consider that these super-powerful, multi-shot weapons are a basic necessity for high-level play...you try dealing with multiple 60+ level feral ghouls, or super mutants without a 2-shot or explosive, with maxed perks...
Honestly, what is not broken at this point? I got annoyed with how many times i had to repair anything in the game when i did play it, weapons and armour But hey "could just buy repair kits" as some people like to say.
I noticed that when my Junkies Auto Gl hits the turrets in Harpers, that it also hits the sandbags and really ups the weapon degradation . It does 1 hit for the turret and up to 4 or more hits for sandbags ,no wonder it degrades so fast . It also counts the scorched dead statues, so hitting 2 to 3 super mutants and up to 3 or more dead scorched can be 6 or more total hits And since I use the double explosion size perk I always hit more than one target (I know its not the correct name for the perk but I can't remember it right now)
Totally agree!!! Man I have a The Dragon rifle 2 shot, explosive. The rifle is 4 shoots at once by default and with the 2 shot perk make it 8 plus the explosive perk. I got tired of using it cause its only fire one shot and brakes instanlly. I insanly stupid but know thanks to you I understood the issue. thank You!
Oh boy, I've heard it before but not that explained, now I know exactly why my explosive shotgun breaks so easily and it's not even a two shot, but that's why I also carry two more explosive shotguns, would be cool to only carry 1 or 2 instead of switching after they break but don't care that much I also use the 200% when repair and gunsmith rank 5, thanks for the vid🖤

Keep the system (Add more hp), remove the weapon degrading from explosion hitting. I don't mind that weapon degrading based on bullets left the weapon( In my mind; two shots degrade twice as fast is okay), ....but just remove the way weapon degrading when bullet explode and hitting multiple enemies, that make no sense...

Yup, I can make a fusion reactor from gum,spit, and twine, that runs forever with no maintenance needed ever. But making or using or repairing a weapon that doesn't break in 20 min or less . Impossible Great Video TYR
sad that its true, i stopped bothering with gunsmith and luck of the draw because getting more damage, survivability and farming potential makes using weapons better and makes repairing them less of a chore. stupid that they look insanely helpful on paper, and that the system is designed this way.

The latest patch negates has screwed heavy weapons bug time. In the last week all of my heavy weapons have broken so damned fast and so quickly it's frigging ridiculous. Bethesda needs to fix this NOW. Bear in mind I have cards equipped to slow down degradation and suddenly after the last patch they seem to have stopped working.
I've got a mutant's gauss shotgun as my main weapon, shot several thousands of shots with it, & i don't remember ever having to fix it. I don't have the Luck of the Draw perk card on, & the shotgun is still at full on the extended condition, so i must've used weapon artisan on it at some point, but i'm not complaining at all. My secret service & solar armours however, appear to only need to be breathed on by an enemy & they all crumble together, even the piece that has 50% more durability than normal..
Armour degradation is also broken. Since one wasteland it breaks probably either twice or three times as fast as it did before one wasteland. Its resulted in ridiculous scrap usage fixing it. You now tear through resources now. Enemy damage I reckon has increased so they tear armour apart. I shouldn't have to be fixing my Secret service arms and legs every time I log on. Super mutants who need nerfed after one wasteland are the number one armour smashers because of their ridiculous new damage output.

ive been using 2shot explosive and demolition weapons since basically release. I havnt ever really used a weapon that doesnt hit multiple times with each pull of the trigger and I remember the fix at the start, when they slowed down heavy weapon degradation and i no longer needed to carry 3+ 50.cals for a sbq fight. Only finding out about this bug now i feel kinda stupid, so thanks to bringing it to light for me but now begs the real question... whats it like to use a weapon that doesnt degrade so fast? Ive always thought that was normal lol
Honestly why I’ve moved away from using my TSE Handmade many months ago. It was just not worth the upkeep or risk the chance of it breaking during a queen fight. I’ll just keep using my AA Handmade and bloodied Fixer instead.

The major examples arr "spray & pray" types, like the flamer and the flamer-type plasma gun. Outraging and idiot , above all considering the COST of repairs in hard-to-get materials, like copper, forcexample and a few others.
I still think weapon degradation simply does not work for 76. One reason that it works with FoNV (I have not played 3) is your damage output and mitigation is directly tie to the durability. It can be annoying from time to time, at very least, it gives degradation mechanics much more impact than 76.
Many things in this game defy logic, but the idea that the projectile can continue to affect the weapon, even after it has left the muzzle, well, that just is ridiculous.
Great video mate! Ive got beam splitter on my explosive gat plas so ofc the durability gets wrecked. Is beam splitter even worth it these days? Let me know what you think because problem is i dont have the plan and cant switch back if i change it to the normal barrel.

I recently equipped grenadier for my explo shøttys and Im guessing that's why they have been breaking like crazy recently? I already had demo expert maxed out and didn't have this big of an issue before...thanks for the info
Grenadier doesn’t do anything for explosive legendary weapons unfortunately, (grenadier only affects grenades, mines and naturally explosive weapons) so no it’s just breaking fast because it’s an explosive shotgun 😉
In Daily Ops they managed to make your weapon degradation much much slower, so if they actually cared they would've made this a normal game feature now and not just in daily ops
I have a 3 Star 2 Shot Explosive Fixer that Earl gave me the first time I helped group kill him and the gun is fantastic it my most damaging gun but I only use as a backup gun because of how fast it breaks. My main gun is my 3 Star Bloodied Explosive Handmade which is my best friend in game, I still have to repair it after nearly every outing. It's not always completely broken but is always close to breaking. I have made an observation in this game since update 23 the AP situation has gotten a little funny not Haha funny but weird funny. Sometimes my girl will have more than normal and it's not from food or anything. Sometimes she will have her normal amount of AP and when in battle if you hide a sec to breath and let it the AP build back up it seems to go really slow now or it won't seem to rise back up till after battle is done. A friend on here who is a Melee build has really noticed and is most vocal about it. By any chance have you or anyone else notice this? My friend and I do both have the mutation that affects your AP as well. It is a bit of a pain but it is manageable for now referring to the AP situation.
Nice deep dive into this issue, But we all know Bethesda so this may get looked at by the end of 2021 if we are lucky. Seems to take a year to get anything fixed in this game.
I like using my bloodied fat man and my bloodied missile launcher. But they barely do any damage and they break in about 10 shots so they are little more than paper weights. And the ammo is so extremely heavy it makes carrying them even with Bear Arms active highly restrictive. There’s an entire class of weapons that are practically useless and Bethesda has done nothing about it for 2 years. Imagine if this were Elder Scrolls online and every single Two Handed sword in the game broke in 10 swings regardless of what kind of upgrades it has or what kind of perks/character stats you have. It would be downright unthinkable and yet Bethesda let’s it happen for all the explosive weapons(not legendary effect).

I broke a 200% condition two-shot Mirv fatman in a single shot in Colossal Problem once. That was a LOT of dead wendigo, though.

Using bashing damage stock helps with conditions, especially on explosive laser

Oh boy, I've heard it before but not that explained, now I know exactly why my explosive shotgun breaks so easily and it's not even a two shot, but that's why I also carry two more explosive shotguns, would be cool to only carry 1 or 2 instead of switching after they break but don't care that much I also use the 200% when repair and gunsmith rank 5, thanks for the vid🖤
I have found that since 2 upgrades ago, my explosive lever rifle breaks after about 30 -35 shots. It used to do at least 150 before then. Infuriating

When the line in the sand glitch was still easily done. I used a bloodied grenade launcher I was using two mags and having to repair it.

I had a TSE napalmer & most of the time I use less the 300 fuel & it's already broken.. They really need to fix that & luck of the draw don't proc as often
Keep the system (Add more hp), remove the weapon degrading from explosion hitting.
I don't mind that weapon degrading based on bullets left the weapon( In my mind; two shots degrade twice as fast is okay),
....but just remove the way weapon degrading when bullet explode and hitting multiple enemies, that make no sense...
Is like the DeathStar destroyed itself because the world(game) registered billions of hits, so the weapon condition will be broken after one shot...

sad that its true, i stopped bothering with gunsmith and luck of the draw because getting more damage, survivability and farming potential makes using weapons better and makes repairing them less of a chore.
stupid that they look insanely helpful on paper, and that the system is designed this way.

They still break super fast but it’s not as bad as it used to be
Gunsmith 5 + Luck of the Draw + high luck does an amazing job of protecting legacy split-beam lasers.
You still need to repair it very often, so no it doesn’t

It’s like putting a bandaid over a cut to the femoral artery..... it doesn’t do jack, those perks don’t matter in this discussion as they aren’t the problem, the core mechanic itself is the problem, no matter what you do your legacy laser will break 10x faster than normal, and that needs proper addressing... not a fucking bandaid “put gunsmith on to fix it” mentality

The latest patch negates has screwed heavy weapons bug time. In the last week all of my heavy weapons have broken so damned fast and so quickly it's frigging ridiculous. Bethesda needs to fix this NOW. Bear in mind I have cards equipped to slow down degradation and suddenly after the last patch they seem to have stopped working.
I've got a mutant's gauss shotgun as my main weapon, shot several thousands of shots with it, & i don't remember ever having to fix it. I don't have the Luck of the Draw perk card on, & the shotgun is still at full on the extended condition, so i must've used weapon artisan on it at some point, but i'm not complaining at all.
My secret service & solar armours however, appear to only need to be breathed on by an enemy & they all crumble together, even the piece that has 50% more durability than normal..

Armor has been breaking faster with the last few patches. So add it to the laundry list of broken shi! that needs to be fixed.

Armour degradation is also broken. Since one wasteland it breaks probably either twice or three times as fast as it did before one wasteland. Its resulted in ridiculous scrap usage fixing it. You now tear through resources now. Enemy damage I reckon has increased so they tear armour apart. I shouldn't have to be fixing my Secret service arms and legs every time I log on. Super mutants who need nerfed after one wasteland are the number one armour smashers because of their ridiculous new damage output.

ive been using 2shot explosive and demolition weapons since basically release. I havnt ever really used a weapon that doesnt hit multiple times with each pull of the trigger and I remember the fix at the start, when they slowed down heavy weapon degradation and i no longer needed to carry 3+ 50.cals for a sbq fight.
Only finding out about this bug now i feel kinda stupid, so thanks to bringing it to light for me but now begs the real question... whats it like to use a weapon that doesnt degrade so fast? Ive always thought that was normal lol
Honestly why I’ve moved away from using my TSE Handmade many months ago. It was just not worth the upkeep or risk the chance of it breaking during a queen fight. I’ll just keep using my AA Handmade and bloodied Fixer instead.
I agree with the per pull of the trigger. But not include the damage drop due to condition or weapon issues with reloading or jamming.

What do you mean with the emphasis on explosive weapons? Yeah, twice as fast, BUT .... "regular" and otherwise weak weapons degrade so fast too!!! The major examples arr "spray & pray" types, like the flamer and the flamer-type plasma gun. Outraging and idiot , above all considering the COST of repairs in hard-to-get materials, like copper, forcexample and a few others.
Because of the aoe on explosive effects, it ticks the degradation even more :/ so dumb.
No wonder the gatling plasma with the beam splitter mod breaks so fast
the shredder on the minigun absolutely destroys your condition in literally a couple seconds on 3 or more targets at once, its so stupid
I still think weapon degradation simply does not work for 76. One reason that it works with FoNV (I have not played 3) is your damage output and mitigation is directly tie to the durability. It can be annoying from time to time, at very least, it gives degradation mechanics much more impact than 76.
Many things in this game defy logic, but the idea that the projectile can continue to affect the weapon, even after it has left the muzzle, well, that just is ridiculous.

Great video mate! Ive got beam splitter on my explosive gat plas so ofc the durability gets wrecked. Is beam splitter even worth it these days? Let me know what you think because problem is i dont have the plan and cant switch back if i change it to the normal barrel.

I recently equipped grenadier for my explo shøttys and Im guessing that's why they have been breaking like crazy recently? I already had demo expert maxed out and didn't have this big of an issue before...thanks for the info
Grenadier doesn’t do anything for explosive legendary weapons unfortunately, (grenadier only affects grenades, mines and naturally explosive weapons) so no it’s just breaking fast because it’s an explosive shotgun 😉

In Daily Ops they managed to make your weapon degradation much much slower, so if they actually cared they would've made this a normal game feature now and not just in daily ops

I have a 3 Star 2 Shot Explosive Fixer that Earl gave me the first time I helped group kill him and the gun is fantastic it my most damaging gun but I only use as a backup gun because of how fast it breaks. My main gun is my 3 Star Bloodied Explosive Handmade which is my best friend in game, I still have to repair it after nearly every outing. It's not always completely broken but is always close to breaking.
I have made an observation in this game since update 23 the AP situation has gotten a little funny not Haha funny but weird funny. Sometimes my girl will have more than normal and it's not from food or anything. Sometimes she will have her normal amount of AP and when in battle if you hide a sec to breath and let it the AP build back up it seems to go really slow now or it won't seem to rise back up till after battle is done. A friend on here who is a Melee build has really noticed and is most vocal about it. By any chance have you or anyone else notice this? My friend and I do both have the mutation that affects your AP as well. It is a bit of a pain but it is manageable for now referring to the AP situation.

I like using my bloodied fat man and my bloodied missile launcher. But they barely do any damage and they break in about 10 shots so they are little more than paper weights. And the ammo is so extremely heavy it makes carrying them even with Bear Arms active highly restrictive. There’s an entire class of weapons that are practically useless and Bethesda has done nothing about it for 2 years. Imagine if this were Elder Scrolls online and every single Two Handed sword in the game broke in 10 swings regardless of what kind of upgrades it has or what kind of perks/character stats you have. It would be downright unthinkable and yet Bethesda let’s it happen for all the explosive weapons(not legendary effect).
