  • We take a look back at the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano, St. Vincent and the Grenadines one year on from the start of the explosive phase of the eruption. From Dec 2020 until November 2021, the volcano experienced effusive and explosive phases and then a return to background levels. Visiting the volcano is discouraged as the terrain is still very dangerous. For more info on the volcano and the geological hazards in the Eastern Caribbean visit our website: uwiseismic.com/

I had no idea this happened until 3 years later. I'm a volcano enthusiast and I should've seen it on the news. But man that video of the ash falling makes me feel like I'm suffocating. I'm glad no significant damage was caused to the island. At least it wasn't a Montserrat. I'm glad the island is recovering, I'd I live on the U.S east coast and volcanoes haven't erupted here for millions of years. I know I'm saying it again but that ash fall was crazy, it looks like grey snow but way more hazardous. Please keep me updated on this, I dove down a rabbit hole finding out about this. I do know the Caribbean has volcanoes like in Montserrat and Grenada but wasn't really thinking of any other recent active volcanoes around this part of world. To anybody living in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, stay safe out there.

The first picture was taken by a tourist and the next video was taken by NEMO staff.
