Panthers are a tighter team.... Refs didnt lose this game... its a lousy excuse. Oilers need to tighten up and focus more. Panthers play is exposing the Oilers shortcomings. One weakness at a time.

Great takes today boys. Especially on the refs. Vancouver podcast sekeres&price has warned the oilers fans before the series started. It's about Gregory camble and the refs. Maybe there are reasons that a Canadian teams has not won over 30 years..... and maybe we will never will.
As a neutral, I think the refs are trying to help Canada win a Stanley Cup. Draisaitl should have been suspended for jumping off his feet
I’ve never paid much attention to fans of Canadian teams prior to this year, but with how annoying Vancouver fans were this year I decided to pay more attention. I never knew that to be Canadian it was a requirement to whine about the refs after every game. I knew Leafs fans were insufferable, but throw Vancouver and Edmonton in there as well.
I am so sick of the passes through the middle that just get easily picked off by the panthers then the puck is going the other way. Notice that the panthers finally score a pp goal because they put the thing on net? Stop looking for the highlight reel goals every time. We won't win with pretty goals.

Foegelle gets a major and misconduct less than 2 minutes in so he's gone. The boys kill off the 5 minutes. PK is no longer perfect, Rodrigues got a tip in goal but Oilers had 34 in a row they were perfect and they didn't let any more in after that. The penalty minutes is ridiculous 45 for the Oilers and 12 for Florida. There was at least one missed call that Knoblock went a bit vocal on (Delay of Game). The boys lacked discipline. Leon with a head shot that took Barkov out of the game. Foegelle with a knee on knee hit that the Sportsnet panel didn't think was worth 5 minutes and a boot but one angle showed it and that's probably the one they saw first for the very very short review. Nurse was hurt and though he returned he played limited minutes after that. Bouchard played over 1/2 the game and Connor about 4 minutes less than that so the extra day will help them recover. The stats on this one are not good. Most area's are pretty close but look at giveaway/takeaway ratio. Giveaways 17 to 16 for the Oilers, no big issue here but Takeaways it's 4 to 14 MASSIVE difference here. Bobrovosky plaed great in net for the Panthers. Skinner didn't get the help he needed especially with Nurse not able to play fully. The Oilers did score ONCE but that's not enough and they did deserve to loose this game. Take care all.

How do the other Stats we see on your list contribute to the single massive Pink Elephant in the Room? McLeod doesn’t deserve another game in these playoffs imo. Too many other passengers on this team right now

Didn’t feel like a hockey game, felt like a soccer game. Florida got confused and thought they were playing for an Oscar, not the Stanley Cup!

So you're starting to realize that the Panthers play a style that shuts down top scorers? During the Panthers run to the final, they shut down Kucherov, Pastrnak, Zabanijad, and now, so far, McDavid. It's Florida's year to win the Cup. They're the better team.
With their system they don't need flashy super-talents, just players with the will to execute the plan hard. Respect.
One game suspension for Leon justified. And I'm an Oilers fan. He left his feet, and held his elbow high towards the head and neck. NHL officiating and discipline is a fkn JOKE. You do not "manage" the game and series, you Call The Damn Rulebook. Otherwise it turns into a jungle. Managing the game for viewership? Then have the refs wear sponsorship ads, no more black and white stripes. Draisaitl had no previous record. He has one now, official or not. He needs to learn how to hit legally. Other players his size do, but this is a weakness of his. I want to see him win making clean hits, not by assassinating other players, whoever they are.
NHL officiating and discipline is turning into a stupid charade, and is starting to discourage me from continue following at all. What's needed are 3rd party assessors of NHL officiating, with analytics, as there are for players.

I dont dispute Barkov got hit high but the rest of the Panthers seemed to flop pretty easily. Tkachuk feigning all night long, Bobrowsky seemed to fall whenever an Oiler skated near him, the D that Foegole hit needed help off the ice but barely misses a shift. Seems systemic.
We already knew Tkachuk was the biggest coward in the league, what surprises me is that it's apparently contagious.

Nowhere as aggregious as Bennetts flying elbow onto Brobergs head, Bennetts knee on Bouchard or Bennetts punch on McDavids face last game. If Drai deserves a suspension than Bennett deserves three. And it's not like Bennetts been squeaky clean this playoffs so far either.
We just don't hear about the Panthers dangerous hits because "that is their game" and Oilers don't play dive-hockey. Panthers, the tough as nails team selling every contact like they got hit by a bus.
Bettman and the US of A teams always get an advantage from the referees. Pretty d*** obvious.
That is why it doesn't pay to spend 9 plus on a 4th Dman as your number 1 ..when they get hurt your depth suffers.

I listen to all of your podcasts, but come on, forget about the refs. The Oilers came out flat and even with a lucky goal they had nothing and no prospects in site. This series is looking very grim. I thought they would at least make it exciting, but game 2 was barely watchable if you're an Oilers fan and not a great showcase for the NHL. Here's hoping they make it a series.
If Bruce McCurdy couldn't whine and sulk about the refs he'd never talk. He moans endlessly about the officiating for any random game in January, no chance he'd be able to not blame nefarious outside sources for a Cup final loss lol
@@stonewalldave595 I like Bruce and Dave and their analysis, but the Oilers had nothing all night and that's the problem, not whether a call should have been made or not. They didn't show up for a Stanly Cup finals game when they're already down in the series. No cycling down low, no intensity, kind of like a game that might be played in January.
By not further punishing Draisaitl's illegal hit, the league has now put McDavid in danger.

The Panthers embellishment was more embarrassing than the officiating...that said the tying goal Skinner needs to stop and the fact that Kane was 20 feet behind the play still in the neutral zone tells you where his game is at.
Heres hoping the Oilers can get it back on the rails!

I'm a ref. Although I ref basketball, I'm still officiating and hold all the power to sway a game one way or the other. Two possibilities only. 1. The refs are incompetent or 2. The refs are not the ones making the calls. As a ref, I know not to blame refs. Parents and coaches constantly blame refs, especially at the end of a close game. As an honest and ethical human and professional, I know it damn well isn't my fault they lost. Maybe I had a bad call or two or a missed call, but I guarantee if I'm aware of it I'll even it out for the other team. It's the players responsibility to convert on those opportunities. I always ask the coach or players "hey, how many layups did your team miss? How many bad shots did you toss up where the other team converted on transition?" I make it clear to the kids don't blame the refs. The fact that I'm human, I can definitely get annoyed by a coach or player and tighten up the interpretations on them specifically, but ffs man, how the hell you going to call that little dinky slash against Brown, and Tkachuck has free reign? How the hell 4 refs miss an over the glass call? There is a shit ton more money in Florida than Edmonton and someone is getting paid. If Crosby was on a Canadian team he would not have one ring. It seems pretty obvious to me. If anyone has some good evidence to prove me wrong I'd love to hear it. Same thing happened with Colorado vs Edmonton, same thing with Vegas and Edmonton. I'm not saying it only happens to Edmonton, just pointing out some pretty obvious examples that I've seen. I can only assume it's happening all over the league. Either way, we'll see if we get an answer on home ice tomorrow.

So an elbow / forearm, leaving your feet, with the principle point of contact being the head %100, according to McCurdy "might be a penalty...." I'm not a fan of either team, but come on homer. It is 5 and at least a game. Barkov was gone for the game with 9:21 left, he must be hurt.
He didn't return because of concussion protocol. He could pass the observation period and return next game. And the league doesn't even issue a fine for that action, setting the bar very low for safety of all players.

Is it some sort of Pride or stubbornness or delusion keeping Kane on the roster for these games? I like the player but he is not able to contribute whatsoever. Then there's Holloway who is a step behind on EVERY play. And then Ryan McLeod has been a passenger for most of these playoffs. Every line has to wake up. I would love to see gagner in, and Nurse and Kane out. They were physical contributors 1 and 2 years ago

I think fans are learning no matter what stars you have it's not enough. You need great goaltending and stellar shut down defense even if Gordie Howe is on your team. Best TEAM wins not a team with a few of the best players.

Did anyone see what Trouba did last series … and no suspension for a repeat offender, plus it was only a two minute penalty assessed … any chance the league/ player safety will be consistent? And there all sorts of what-about’isms in this game of non-calls
Far more depressing than the 0-2 deficit, is the crapshow that the refs and league discipline dept. have let this showcase series turn into. Leon's hit on Barkov deserves a suspension, and they give what, not even a fine? So with that standard set, what will the Panthers do now? The league is putting stars like McD in danger. I'm an Oilers fan, but first of all call the game within the rules. Refs "managing" the game is refs influencing the game. Just call the damn rulebook. After that game and non-punishment of Drai's clear step over the line, I've lost interest in this series, if not the league itself.
Losers always blame the ref. The overall incompetence of the refs in these entire playoffs has been pathetic and of no benefit to anyone.

Panthers are dropping like they got shot and bounce back up when a penalty is called, but the refs need to let them play but seem to be helping Panthers by not calling it fair.
At the start of the playoffs, I was really hoping McLeod and Foegele would make big positive contributions. They should and could be part of a very effective 3rd line, checking, hitting, defending and scoring, probably with Henrique. They haven't played up to their potential, so far. Good on Foegele for his energy, but he has to keep it legal and stay in the game.
With a good 3rd line consistently chipping in a few more goals-for than against, the effective "nothing happens" line with Brown, Janmark and [Perry/DR/Carrick/Gagner!] would be the 4th. As for the top 6, it's hobbled by Kane's injury, Holloway's lack of experience, and lack of experience of all 6 with a physical team like this in the SC finals.
But it's not over yet.

So not sure on the rule here but you guys contracdicted yourselves. You said a Linesman can only call a double minor or a major, yet they can call a 2 minute for clearing the puck over the glass while the puck is still in the zone? Which is it? Yes, that was a blown call. BTW - apparently the new rule for challenging is written in such a way to determine if the puck was deflected or hit the glass prior to leaving the playing surface and NOT if the puck had cleared the zone or not prior to leaving the playing surface. Hopefully that will be adjusted based on this play. Either way, Oilers were owned and did not deserve the win - 4 to 1 score flattered them IMO.
At least now we know Knoblauch can get pissed off.

Momentum game to game doesn't happen in the playoffs and the Oilers proved that tonight by taking a momentum loss and hitting a brick wall tonight. The Finals are magical more often than not when you have generational talents. The Oilers will tie up the series, take the series lead game 5, and then in OT of game 7 Nurse and Ceci will make them pay. By them, I mean the Oilers

I think it must be different angles between the US and Canadian feed because the US look like it didn’t leave his stick until it was over the blue line. It was very close though.

I was really pumped for this game, alas, a huge letdown for the fans as the team basically stunk. The refs sucked badly for both teams, maybe a little worse for the Oilers. One goal in two games won’t cut it.

Honest question, who played worse? The Oilers or the referees? I'd say the referees. Everyone loved the changes Knoblauch made and so I'd like to see people calling him out for putting Dascharnais back in. Foegele just looks lost out there, mentally and physically. The team can't get anything going.
